Powell Campground Introduce
If you're searching for "camping near me" in the scenic Lolo, Montana area, Powell Campground, located at Lolo, MT 59847, USA, offers a promising option for your next outdoor adventure. Situated in a location that provides both natural beauty and convenient access to essential services, Powell Campground can be reached at (208) 935-2513 or +1 208-935-2513 for inquiries and reservations.
Based on feedback from fellow campers, Powell Campground offers a generally positive experience, particularly highlighting its strategic location. One enthusiastic camper shared, "We loved this camping excursion. The staff at lodge, food, camp sites, little store, etc. everything was splendid! Planning another trip!" This review indicates a welcoming atmosphere and satisfaction with various aspects of the campground and its associated facilities, suggesting a well-managed and enjoyable camping destination.
Another camper provided a more detailed perspective, noting, "Nice campground overall. The proximity of Lochsa Lodge restaurant, general store and Sinclair pump is great since there aren’t any services for many miles. The general store has a pay phone." This highlights a significant advantage of Powell Campground: its proximity to Lochsa Lodge, which offers a restaurant, and a general store, as well as a Sinclair gas station. Given the potentially remote nature of the Lolo area, having these services readily accessible can be a major convenience for campers, providing access to food, supplies, and fuel without needing to travel long distances. The mention of a pay phone at the general store also suggests connectivity in an area where cellular service might be limited.
However, this same reviewer also pointed out some potential drawbacks regarding the campsites themselves: "The sites themselves are pretty small, especially on the interior circle of sites. Many of the lower level sites, like ours which was A16, are on a grade and it’s difficult to set up for tent camping." This is an important consideration for tent campers. The smaller size of some interior sites might limit the space available for tents and gear, and the sloping terrain of lower-level sites could present challenges in finding a level and comfortable spot for pitching a tent. Campers planning to tent at Powell Campground should be aware of this potential issue and perhaps inquire about site characteristics when making reservations.
Regarding the facilities, the reviewer commented, "Bathrooms are relatively clean but there was no liquid soap, just a very worn bar of soap." While cleanliness is a positive aspect, the lack of liquid soap in the bathrooms is a minor inconvenience that future campers might want to prepare for by bringing their own hand soap or sanitizer. The mention of a "very worn bar of soap" suggests that while soap is provided, its condition might not be ideal.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the reviewer concluded on a positive note: "Now that I’m better prepared, I’d camp here again." This indicates that the overall positive aspects of Powell Campground, particularly its location and access to amenities, outweigh the challenges of smaller or sloped campsites and the bathroom soap situation. With a little forethought and preparation, campers can still have a worthwhile experience here.
Based on this information, Powell Campground appears to offer a convenient and generally well-regarded camping experience in the Lolo, Montana area. Its key features include:
- Strategic Location: Proximity to Lochsa Lodge with its restaurant and a general store with a Sinclair gas station, providing essential services in a potentially remote area.
- Positive Staff Interaction: At least one reviewer praised the staff at the lodge, food service, campsites, and store as "splendid," suggesting a friendly and helpful service-oriented approach.
- General Cleanliness: The bathrooms are reported to be "relatively clean," which is an important factor for camper comfort and hygiene.
However, potential campers should also be aware of:
- Small Campsite Sizes: Interior circle sites are noted as being particularly small, which might be a concern for larger tents or groups.
- Graded Lower-Level Sites: Some lower-level sites, like A16, have a slope that can make tent setup difficult. Tent campers should inquire about site levelness when booking.
- Bathroom Soap: The availability of only a worn bar of soap suggests that campers might want to bring their own liquid soap or hand sanitizer.
For those searching for "camping near me" who value convenience and access to amenities alongside a natural camping environment, Powell Campground presents a compelling option. The proximity to Lochsa Lodge and its services is a significant draw, especially for those who prefer having a restaurant option or need to resupply at the general store. The positive feedback regarding the staff further enhances the appeal of this campground.
While there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews, the positive sentiment expressed by returning campers suggests that the overall experience is worth the cost. To learn about current rates, availability, and any special offers, it is best to contact Powell Campground directly at the provided phone numbers.
In conclusion, Powell Campground near Lolo, MT, offers a "nice campground overall" with the significant advantage of being located near essential services at Lochsa Lodge. While some campsites may be small or on a grade, and the bathroom soap situation could be improved, the positive experiences shared by campers, particularly regarding the staff and the convenience of nearby amenities, make it a worthwhile consideration for your Montana camping trip. If you are looking for "camping near me" that combines natural beauty with practical conveniences, be sure to contact Powell Campground to plan your excursion.

Aug 24, 2022 · The OCD VirgoPowell campground is a terrific place to rest, relax, fish, hike and explore. Very short hike down to river. Highly recommend. The Lolo Ranger station is nearby. Sites are far enough apart to give you a bit of privacy.34 campsites, half are non electric and the other half have 30/50 amp service. Half of the sites are reservable, the other half are first come first serve. Sites are easy back in. Some are pull through.Vault toilets are located in two places. Water available around the campground with non threaded faucets. Dumpsters on site. No dump station.Camp host on site.
Aug 27, 2021 · Kenneth DavisEnjoyed overnight stay here in Aug ‘19. Located in a very remote area with no cell service. The campground is wooded and well spaced. It abuts the Lohese River and our lab had a blast swimming. Beautiful area and almost everyone had 4 wheelers except us. Facilities clean but no showers.
Sep 04, 2019 · Bill MurphyBeautiful campground by the river, host was kind to me. Walking distance to the lodge and restaurant made it ideal setup for me on my moto-camping trip.99 miles of twisty road is heaven for motorcycle riders, it ll be hard to forget that day and i will return again.
