Jerry Johnson Campground Introduce
For local residents of Kooskia, Idaho, and the surrounding areas seeking "camping near me" within the scenic Clearwater National Park, Jerry Johnson Campground, located along US-12, Kooskia, ID 83539, USA, offers a unique experience centered around natural hot springs. The reviews highlight both the appealing aspects, such as the presence of multiple hot spring pools, and potential drawbacks, including limited shade in the summer and a significant tick presence in the spring. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview for local users considering this campground.
The environment of Jerry Johnson Campground is primarily defined by its location within Clearwater National Park, suggesting a setting of natural beauty with forests, rivers, and mountainous terrain. A significant feature of this campground is its proximity to natural hot springs. One reviewer mentions "three different pools to choose from along the trail," indicating that the campground serves as a base for accessing these geothermal features. The first pool is described as the hottest and was enjoyed for its solitude. This unique integration of a campground with natural hot springs offers a distinctive environmental attraction. However, one reviewer noted that the "views were mehh," suggesting that while the hot springs are a draw, the general scenic vistas from the campground itself might not be the primary highlight. Additionally, this reviewer pointed out a significant environmental consideration for summer camping: the lack of trees and shade, which can lead to uncomfortable heat. In contrast, spring camping is described as "good because it's not too hot yet," indicating a more pleasant temperature during that season. The presence of ticks, however, is noted as a significant issue during the spring, even more so at the campsite than while hiking through the woods, which is an important environmental factor for potential campers to be aware of.
The information regarding services at Jerry Johnson Campground is somewhat limited in the provided reviews. One positive aspect mentioned is that "the bathrooms we're clean and toilet paper was filled," indicating that basic hygiene needs are met and maintained. However, there is no information provided about other typical campground amenities such as water sources, fire pits, picnic tables, or waste disposal. The focus of the reviews is primarily on the hot springs and the environmental conditions for camping. The absence of comments on these standard amenities might suggest they are either basic, limited, or not a significant aspect of the experience compared to the hot springs access. For local users seeking "camping near me" with specific service requirements, it would be advisable to consult the official Clearwater National Park website or contact the park authorities directly to obtain a comprehensive list of available services at Jerry Johnson Campground.
The most prominent feature of Jerry Johnson Campground is undoubtedly its access to natural hot springs. The presence of three different pools, with varying temperatures and opportunities for solitude, offers a unique and relaxing experience for campers. This feature alone makes the campground stand out for those seeking a natural thermal soak as part of their camping trip. Another feature, albeit a potentially negative one depending on the season, is the varying environmental conditions. Spring offers milder temperatures suitable for camping, though with a significant tick presence. Summer, on the other hand, can be very hot at the campsites due to a lack of shade. The clean bathrooms are a basic but appreciated feature. The campground's location within Clearwater National Park also provides access to the broader natural beauty and potential recreational activities within the park, although the immediate views from the campsite were not highly rated by one reviewer. For local users looking for "camping near me" with the unique draw of nearby hot springs, Jerry Johnson Campground is a noteworthy option, provided they are prepared for the seasonal environmental conditions.
There is no specific promotional information mentioned in the provided reviews. The feedback is primarily focused on personal experiences with the hot springs and the camping conditions during different seasons. Therefore, local users searching for "camping near me" at Jerry Johnson Campground should not expect any specific discounts or special offers based on this information. The primary draw is the unique access to natural hot springs within a National Park setting. To inquire about any potential fees, reservations, or seasonal information that might be considered a form of "promotional" detail (e.g., off-season rates), it would be necessary to consult the official Clearwater National Park website or contact the park authorities directly. They would have the most accurate information regarding any costs associated with camping and access to the hot springs, as well as any regulations or guidelines for visitors.
In conclusion, Jerry Johnson Campground in Clearwater National Park near Kooskia, Idaho, offers a distinctive camping experience for local users seeking "camping near me" due to its proximity to natural hot springs. The availability of multiple pools with varying temperatures provides a unique recreational opportunity. However, potential campers should be aware of the seasonal environmental conditions, including the potential for intense heat and lack of shade during the summer, and a significant tick presence in the spring. The campground offers clean bathroom facilities, but information on other amenities is limited. For local residents interested in combining camping with access to natural hot springs, Jerry Johnson Campground is worth considering, with the recommendation to gather more detailed information about services and seasonal conditions from official park sources before planning a trip.

Jerry Johnson Campground Reviews
There are three different pools to choose from along the trail. It's a busy place at certain times of the day. The first pool was our favorite being that we had it to our self, and it was the hottest of the three.
Oct 02, 2024 · dave SpinnerIt's ok. The views were mehh. We have a good time every time we camp despite where we are. I give this spot only two stars because if you are camping in the summer you are gonna roast in these spots with no trees and shade. Spring camping is good because it's not too hot yet but the ticks are real bad here. We tromped through the woods and didn't get as many ticks as we did just at our camp site. 🤔 Oh well, it is nature, right? 😜 The bathrooms we're clean and toilet paper was filled. 👍
May 18, 2019 · sabrina bayhaIt is a good mid-way location for those wanting to fish the river. Prior to when the grounds were "nuked" (cleared of trees) it was a nice shady area. In mid to late summer, the sun bakes the grounds for much of the day.
Jun 18, 2024 · Jack HutsonIt is a very nice campground, paved back in stes only, all pretty level. In ground fire pits. Gorgeous views of tree covered mountains. Most of the stes were empty, on a Saturday afternoon. Good campground.
