McArthur - Burney Falls Rim Campground Introduce
For local users seeking an exceptional "camping near me" experience amidst breathtaking natural beauty, McArthur-Burney Falls Rim Campground near Burney, CA, stands out as a highly recommended destination. Located at Lake Rd, Burney, CA 96013, USA, and reachable at (530) 335-2777 or +1 530-335-2777, this campground consistently receives high praise for its cleanliness, scenic location, and access to remarkable natural attractions, most notably the renowned Burney Falls.
Visitors frequently commend the cleanliness and maintenance of the campground facilities. Reviews highlight the "clean restrooms and showers," with rangers observed cleaning and restocking them daily. This commitment to hygiene contributes significantly to a positive camping experience. The campsites themselves are also described as "very clean," often offering desirable features such as flat and spacious areas ideal for setting up camp. Many sites provide ample shade, crucial for comfort during warmer months. Specific sites, such as #40 and #41, have been noted as particularly good for their setup and space.
The environment surrounding McArthur-Burney Falls Rim Campground is a major draw. Campers enjoy the relaxing sounds of the nearby river at night, enhancing the tranquil atmosphere. A convenient trail, approximately one mile in length and rated as not too difficult, provides easy access from the campground down to the lake. While the lake water is described as "ice cold," it is also considered "very refreshing," especially during hot weather, with temperatures reaching into the 100s during peak season. The overall scenery is frequently lauded, with one visitor declaring it "the most beautiful campsite I've been to" and specifically mentioning the "gorgeous" waterfall.
While the primary attraction, Burney Falls, was temporarily closed during one visitor's stay, the opportunity to view it from the top viewing point and learn interesting facts from a ranger still provided a valuable experience. Additionally, the Headwaters Trail offers another avenue for exploration, allowing visitors to get close to the river. The presence of a visitor center is also a significant feature, described as "very cool & informative," with exhibits about the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and activities for children, such as junior ranger programs.
The campground offers a well-stocked store on-site, providing convenience for campers who may need supplies, ice, or a treat like ice cream. While some reviewers noted that the prices were "pricey," the store's wide selection, including deli sandwiches, firewood, and souvenirs, can be invaluable, especially for those who may have forgotten essential items. The availability of ice is particularly appreciated for keeping food and drinks cold during warmer weather.
Amenities at the campsites include fire pits with grates for cooking. Some sites also feature wooden "squirrel boxes" for food storage, although not all sites have bear boxes. Campers are advised to be cautious of squirrels, which are known to actively seek out food, and to store all food and trash securely in large containers before leaving their campsite to prevent attracting wildlife.
While the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, some minor drawbacks have been noted. Some campsites can be "a little close to neighbors," and occasional noise from other campers may occur, which is not uncommon in campgrounds. One visitor described the walk to the "beach" area as "subpar" and found the lake water to be "really murky," possibly influenced by their experience with San Diego beaches. It was also noted that rentals (boats, paddleboards) were unavailable due to a blue algae disease in the lake at the time of one visit. Additionally, the presence of "lots of bees" was mentioned as a minor inconvenience.
There is no specific promotional information or discounts mentioned in the provided reviews. However, the consistent positive feedback regarding the cleanliness, beautiful environment, and access to attractions like Burney Falls serves as a strong implicit promotion for McArthur-Burney Falls Rim Campground. The fact that visitors express a desire to return year after year underscores its appeal and the positive experiences it offers.
For local users searching for "camping near me" that combines natural beauty with well-maintained facilities and convenient amenities, McArthur-Burney Falls Rim Campground is an excellent choice. While some campsites may be close together and occasional noise can occur, the overall atmosphere is described as relaxing and the scenery as breathtaking. Potential visitors should be mindful of wildlife, particularly squirrels, and be aware of potential lake conditions, such as water clarity and the availability of rentals.
In conclusion, McArthur-Burney Falls Rim Campground offers a fantastic camping getaway for local users. Its stunning natural environment, highlighted by the magnificent Burney Falls and access to a refreshing lake, is complemented by well-maintained facilities, including clean restrooms and showers, and a convenient on-site store. McArthur - Burney Falls Rim Campground Reviews
We went on 7/4/24 for 3 nights and our experience was great. Clean restrooms and showers, every morning I'd see the rangers cleaning them and restocking with paper and soap. The campsites were also very clean. We got site 40 and 41 and they were great for setting up camp, nice and flat, with lots of shade and space. Very relaxing, at night you can hear the river, and it's right next to a trail that goes down to the lake, only around 1 mile but not too hard. The water is ice cold but it was very refreshing for the weather since we were in the 100s. The store was very well stocked and we even bought a few things but especially some ice and ice cream. We loved this campsite and hope to come back next year! Just be careful of the squirrels, they love to look for food so make sure before you leave to store everything in large containers and throw out the trash. The most beautiful campsite I've been to. The waterfall was gorgeous.
Jul 12, 2024 · Lizet CervantesWe loved this campground! Our family of 4 stayed here for 2 days on our way to Oregon. The falls were closed which was a bummer but we got to see it from the top viewing point and had a ranger tell us some cool facts about the place. We did a small hike at Headwatersb trail and got to feel the river as well.Campsites were cozy, a little close to neighbors & some were loud but what can ya do? Bathrooms were nice & clean, showers were also great (I took one before heading out). 2min per 1 token. fire pits with a grate, wooden squirrel boxes our site didn’t have a bear box. We tent camped and had no trouble backing in our car into our spot. The weather was warm & we slept without our tent cover & woke up to a beautiful scenery. The visitor center was very cool & informative. My daughter learned about the CCC in school so it was neat to see her interested in what they built. They had pamphlets and junior ranger activities posted. The store was very pricey but had lots of things if you were in need. We had deli sandwiches there and ice cream & it was a nice treat but $4 for a Hershey bar was a tough buy. They also sell firewood, souvenirs & such.We walked to the “beach” but it was subpar. Maybe my own opinion coming from San Diego but the water was really murky. My daughters swam in it nonetheless. The rentals were not available due to blue algae disease so we were not able to rent a boat or paddle board FYI. Lots of bees as wellOverall a great place & we would come back hopefully when the falls are back open
Aug 11, 2024 · Margarita CasillasAmazing campground. Clean facilities, nice neighbors and huge camp sites. The general store on site was a huge plus, and the falls and lake are only a 15 minute walk away. The falls were absolutely spectacular! Took my breath away. The lake seemed nice though we didn't use it. There were boat/kayak rentals and a lot of people out on the water. Definitely will go back asap.
Jul 01, 2023 · Matthew GlenfieldWe love staying in the McArthur Campgrounds! The cabins are minimalistic, you'll need to bring your own bedding and battery powered lanterns as there is no electricity in the cabins, but they're safe and secure and that's all we really want out of our camping experience. The campgrounds themselves are impeccably clean, as are the restrooms. There's a general store that has just about anything you could need for your stay and they also make excellent sandwiches and root beer floats! We will continue to come back year after year because it's always a wonderful experience!
Sep 24, 2023 · Stephanie LeeFirst time staying at burney falls rim camp. Everyone we encountered were friendly. Special shout out to Mary and Matt for being amazing camp host volunteers. They helped with answering several questions and came by daily to check on us. We had a big group of teenagers as well and they informed us about park events. Hot and cold showers. Flush toilets both clean and well maintained. Camp sites are spacious. This is a park you don't want to miss. Can't wait to return next summer!
