Been going to Morgan for more than 35 yrs. Group camp with the extended family. The grounds are great if you like the outdoors. There is no electricity or plumbing. The group site has its own pit toilet ,so that's nice. Our dogs love it too. We raft and swim and fish. We pick berries if we're there late in the season. Love love Morgan Lake! - Carla Darrah

Morgan Lake Campground Introduce

For local users seeking an authentic "camping near me" experience that truly immerses you in nature, Morgan Lake Campground, nestled within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest near Long Lake, Wisconsin, offers a unique and cherished outdoor retreat. Located at ROAD 2159, CHEQUAMEGON-NICOLET, Long Lake, WI 54542, USA, Morgan Lake Campground has been a beloved destination for over 35 years, particularly for those who appreciate a more rustic and natural camping environment.

The environment of Morgan Lake Campground is a significant part of its appeal. Situated within the vast Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, campers can expect to be surrounded by the beauty of Wisconsin's woodlands and the serene waters of Morgan Lake. Reviews highlight "gorgeous ridge-top campsites," suggesting stunning views and a unique perspective of the surrounding landscape. Additionally, during the mid-week in August, visitors have found "numerous lakeside sites to choose from," indicating opportunities for direct access to the lake for swimming, fishing, and simply enjoying the water's edge. The fact that returning visitors have been coming for decades speaks volumes about the natural beauty and tranquility of the area. The presence of berry picking opportunities late in the season further emphasizes the natural bounty and the chance to engage with the environment.

It is important to note that Morgan Lake Campground offers a more primitive camping experience. As explicitly stated in the reviews, there is "no electricity or plumbing" available at the campsites. However, for those who embrace a more traditional camping style, this lack of modern amenities is part of the charm and allows for a deeper connection with nature. The group campsite does offer the convenience of its "own pit toilet," which is a notable benefit for larger groups. Campers should come prepared with their own water sources, lighting, and waste disposal systems, embracing a self-sufficient approach to their stay. The focus here is truly on the natural surroundings and the activities they afford, rather than modern conveniences.

The features of Morgan Lake Campground are centered around its natural attributes and the opportunities for outdoor recreation. The availability of both "ridge-top campsites" and "lakeside sites" provides campers with different scenic experiences to choose from. The "good spacing and vegetation between sites" is a significant feature, as it offers a sense of privacy and allows campers to feel more immersed in nature, a quality that made the now-closed Sevenmile Campground a popular choice as well. This natural separation enhances the feeling of being away from it all. The campground is also dog-friendly, as mentioned by a long-time visitor whose dogs love the area, making it a great option for those who like to camp with their furry companions. The lake itself is a central feature, offering opportunities for rafting, swimming, and fishing. For those visiting later in the season, the chance to pick berries adds another dimension to the outdoor experience.

Getting to Morgan Lake Campground involves "driving several miles on gravel roads," but the reviews assure that "the whole route is completely passable in a small car." This is important information for potential visitors, indicating that while the location may feel remote, it is still accessible with standard vehicles. The journey itself likely contributes to the feeling of escaping into a more natural setting.

Currently, there is a significant piece of information regarding a potential future change to the campground's environment. The campground "looks to be marked for a major logging operation that could drastically change the appearance of things for a few years while the forest regenerates." As of the summer of 2022, "the cutting hadn't started yet." This is crucial information for local users planning to visit, as the experience might be different in the future. While the natural beauty is currently intact, potential logging in the area could impact the scenery and the overall ambiance of the campground in the coming years. It is advisable for prospective visitors to seek updated information regarding the status of any logging operations before planning their trip.

Promotional information, in the traditional sense of discounts or special offers, is not provided in the reviews. The primary promotion for Morgan Lake Campground seems to be the natural beauty of its location, the variety of campsite experiences (ridge-top and lakeside), and the opportunities for outdoor activities like swimming, fishing, and berry picking. The long-standing tradition of families returning year after year also serves as a strong testament to its appeal. The unique draw is the chance to experience a more rustic and secluded camping adventure within the stunning Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

In conclusion, for local users seeking a "camping near me" experience that prioritizes natural beauty and a more traditional outdoor adventure, Morgan Lake Campground in Long Lake, WI, is definitely "worth a visit." Its gorgeous ridge-top and lakeside campsites, coupled with opportunities for swimming, fishing, and berry picking, offer a genuine connection with nature. While the lack of electricity and plumbing requires a more self-sufficient approach, this is precisely what appeals to those seeking a true rustic escape. The good spacing between sites and the dog-friendly environment further enhance its appeal. However, potential visitors should be aware of the future possibility of logging operations in the area, which could alter the campground's appearance. Despite this potential future change, the current experience at Morgan Lake Campground offers a cherished and authentic outdoor getaway within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.
