Ottawa County Fairgrounds Campground Introduce
Looking for a conveniently located and budget-friendly "camping near me" option in Holland, Michigan? The Ottawa County Fairgrounds Campground, situated at 70-15-26-251-002, Holland, MI 49424, offers a unique camping experience characterized by its clean facilities, peaceful ambiance, and practical amenities. While it may have some differences from traditional campgrounds, its positive attributes make it a noteworthy consideration for local camping enthusiasts seeking a comfortable and straightforward outdoor stay.
A Peaceful Setting with Clean Facilities
Based on customer reviews, the Ottawa County Fairgrounds Campground is often described as quiet and spacious, providing a peaceful retreat for campers. This tranquility can be a significant draw for those looking to escape the noise and congestion of more crowded campgrounds. The surrounding woods, while described by one reviewer as "eery" but enjoyable, suggest a natural environment that contributes to the overall serene atmosphere of the campground.
A standout feature, consistently praised by campers, is the exceptional cleanliness of the bathroom and shower facilities. The dedicated individuals responsible for maintaining these areas are recognized for their hard work in keeping them very clean, even with the presence of dirt paths around the campground. Campers have noted that the showers are particularly nice, often exceeding the quality found at other campgrounds. This emphasis on cleanliness contributes significantly to a comfortable and pleasant camping experience.
Practical Services and Amenities
Ottawa County Fairgrounds Campground offers essential services to accommodate campers. Many sites are equipped with water and electricity hookups, catering to the needs of both RV and tent campers who appreciate these conveniences. While full sewer hookups are not available at each site, this is noted as not being a major concern for "simple camping." A nearby station offers a convenient option for dumping waste for a nominal fee, providing a practical solution for RV owners.
It's important to note some of the unique characteristics of this campground based on user feedback. Unlike many campgrounds, Ottawa County Fairgrounds Campground does not have individual fire rings at each campsite. Instead, it offers a community fire ring, providing a shared space for campers to gather and enjoy a campfire experience. Similarly, picnic tables are not provided at individual sites, although reviewers mention that many campers typically bring their own tables.
Despite these differences, the availability of clean restrooms with showers and the option for water and electricity hookups at many sites provide a solid foundation for a comfortable camping stay. The peaceful environment and the positive feedback regarding the helpfulness and patience of the staff, particularly the person answering the phone, further enhance the overall appeal of this campground.
Features for Families and Relaxation
One notable feature that makes Ottawa County Fairgrounds Campground particularly appealing to families is the lovely fenced-in playground. A heartwarming review highlights the significance of this amenity for a parent of a disabled child, who was able to roam freely and play safely for the first time. This demonstrates the campground's ability to cater to diverse needs and provide inclusive recreational opportunities.
The quiet and spacious nature of the campground contributes to a relaxing atmosphere, allowing campers to unwind and enjoy the natural surroundings. While individual privacy at campsites isn't explicitly detailed, the overall peacefulness seems to compensate for this for many visitors. The combination of a serene environment and practical amenities makes it a suitable choice for those seeking a low-key and enjoyable camping experience.
The community fire ring serves as a social hub, offering an opportunity for campers to interact and share stories in the evenings. While some might prefer the privacy of an individual fire pit, the community option fosters a sense of camaraderie among campers.

Ottawa County Fairgrounds Campground Reviews
The kind folks that take care of the campground bathrooms work HARD, and it is an often thankless job. The bathrooms were always very clean, even though there are a lot of dirt paths around. There are showers available in the restrooms as well. (They are way nicer than many other campgrounds.)There are no individual fire rings, but there is a community one. There are also no picnic tables, but most of us carry extra tables anyway. Also, no full sewer hookups, but again, no worries for simple camping. We had a site with water and electricity. We went to a nearby station to dump for a whopping $10.Overall -- no complaints.
Jul 09, 2024 · Erin Wiseman-ParkinI love this spot. I don't know if we lucked out or it's always quiet and spacious but it was so peaceful. The surrounding woods were eery but I kinda liked that so 🤣The showers are probably the best camp showers I've ever seen and the price was exceptional. Thank you to the person answering the phone! I must have called 3 times and they were patient, kind, and helpful (also very specific which I need in life).Lovely fenced in playground! Never been able to let my disabled son roam freely and play before, it was a milestone. 💖
Sep 10, 2023 · H. Jo MooreNot a great campground as there are no signs to tell you where you are supposed to be. We arrived when it was raining and parked in a spot under the trees. Well come to find out a couple days later we were in the wrong area because of an upcoming event. So we moved to the correct area. Only water and electric, no sewer. So you had to dump up front at the dumping station. Either move your rig or use a pull behind honey pot. That is a big inconvenience. So the day we left there was an event going on and we were told by event staff that we couldn’t dump. So we went down the road to Love’s truck stop and dumped and were charged $10. The park did reimburse us for that charge. Close to town, no laundry facility. Nothing great and we wouldn’t stay here again.
Jul 20, 2024 · Char HargroveState park was full so I thought this could be an option just 2 nights before going to Traverse city state park. When I arrived to look around I was in awe of how depressing it looked. The bathrooms were way out dated? The sites had no power on them many yards away? The vibrations were very bad and negative. You couldn’t pay me $500 a night to stay here ! Just horrible visual!! Beware !!
Aug 05, 2024 · Robert YorkThe man in charge was incredibly rude and disrespectful to us. He yelled at us countless times when we were doing almost nothing wrong. Every time he talked to us, he talked in a very snarky and ill-mannered tone. He drove around in his golf cart a good amount of times, always with a scowl on his face. I also felt like he was always watching me and the others I was camping with. It made my group very unconfortable.I do NOT recommend this campgrounds. The guy managing the place made our fun and relaxing weekend getaway the opposite of what we anticipated it to be.
