Palmetto Ridge Campground

Sarasota, FL 34241, USA

This was a wonderful place with so much to do and lots of wildlife! During our stay we saw possums, raccoons, alligators, bunnies, and squirrels — it was amazing to be surrounded by so much nature. We stayed in site 49, which was spacious and clean, but unfortunately it was located right across from the dumpster. The garbage was extremely smelly and overflowing, and it looked like it hadn’t been picked up in a while. At night, we saw tons of possums and raccoons raiding it. Right before we left, they finally came to clean it up, after it had already been torn through by animals.Aside from that, everything else was great. The bathhouses were very nice and well maintained. The canopy walk was super cool and definitely one of a kind! There is currently a fire ban in place, so be sure to check that before your stay. Also, the water isn’t suitable for drinking right now, but the park is providing free water, which was really helpful. We stayed April 11–13 and were pleasantly surprised — barely any bugs during our visit! Overall, a beautiful park with tons of nature and unique experiences. - Alyssa McIntyre
