Perch Lake Campground Introduce
For local residents of Drummond, Wisconsin, and the surrounding areas seeking a "camping near me" experience that combines affordability with a tranquil, rustic setting, Perch Lake Campground presents an excellent choice. Located in Drummond, WI 54832, USA, and reachable by phone at (800) 832-1355 or +1 800-832-1355, this campground offers a private and budget-friendly way to enjoy the natural beauty of the region. Situated within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, Perch Lake Campground provides a more economical alternative to nearby options like Two Lakes Campground while still offering convenient access to attractions such as Lake Owen and the town of Cable.
When considering "camping near me," the environment of Perch Lake Campground is a key aspect of its appeal. Visitors consistently describe the campsites as "very private," suggesting a layout that prioritizes space and seclusion, allowing for a more intimate connection with nature. The campground is characterized as a "quiet rustic" retreat, ideal for those seeking a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of more developed campgrounds. It is important to note that Perch Lake Campground does not offer hookups for RVs, emphasizing its focus on a more traditional camping experience. The presence of a vault toilet indicates basic sanitation facilities, and drinking water is provided via "an iconic hand pump" located in each of the campground's two sections, which have separate entrances from the highway. The water is reported to taste fine and appear clear, ensuring a potable water source for campers. The surrounding environment within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is rich in natural beauty, with trails suitable for hiking located directly across the road from the campground, offering opportunities to explore a "sort of wilderness area within the forest." While Perch Lake itself might have some vegetation along the shoreline, making it less ideal for extensive swimming directly at the campground, it is still swimmable. For those seeking a dedicated swimming beach, the "exceptionally nice beach" at the Lake Owen Picnic Grounds, also managed by the national forest, is just a short drive away.
The services at Perch Lake Campground are intentionally basic, aligning with its rustic nature and affordability. As mentioned, there are no hookups available for RVs, meaning campers should be prepared for dry camping. The provision of vault toilets offers a necessary sanitation facility. The hand pump system for drinking water in each section ensures a water source, though campers should be prepared for the manual effort required to pump water. The absence of on-site amenities like showers or laundry facilities is typical for a campground of this type, emphasizing a more self-sufficient camping experience. The fact that the property is maintained by "USFS staff and volunteers" rather than a private concessioner suggests a direct connection to conservation efforts and a potential for a more natural and less commercialized atmosphere. While firewood sales or other convenience services are not mentioned, the focus is clearly on providing a clean and well-maintained basic camping infrastructure within a natural setting. Local users seeking "camping near me" who appreciate a more primitive experience and are comfortable with basic amenities will find the services at Perch Lake Campground adequate for a peaceful getaway.
The features of Perch Lake Campground are centered around its natural setting, privacy, and access to nearby recreational opportunities. The "very private" campsites are a significant feature, offering a sense of seclusion that is often sought after by campers. The proximity to hiking trails directly across the road provides immediate access to outdoor exploration within the surrounding wilderness of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The campground's location near both Drummond and the popular Lake Owen and Cable areas makes it a convenient base for exploring the broader region. While Perch Lake itself might not be ideal for swimming directly at the campsites due to shoreline vegetation, its presence still adds to the scenic beauty of the area. The close proximity to the excellent swimming beach at the Lake Owen Picnic Grounds, a short drive away, compensates for the limited swimming opportunities on-site. For those interested in a lower-cost alternative to the more developed campgrounds in the area, Perch Lake offers a significant saving of approximately $8 per night compared to Two Lakes Campground, while still allowing easy access to the attractions of Lake Owen by day. The iconic hand pump for water adds a touch of rustic charm to the camping experience. The maintenance by USFS staff and volunteers ensures the property is well cared for, contributing to a positive camping environment. Local users looking for "camping near me" that prioritizes privacy, affordability, and access to hiking and nearby lake recreation will find Perch Lake Campground to be a compelling option.
No specific promotional information is provided for Perch Lake Campground in the given reviews. As a US Forest Service-managed campground, fees are typically charged per night, and it is advisable for local users seeking "camping near me" to check the official recreation.gov website or contact the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest directly for the most current information on camping fees and reservation procedures. National Forest campgrounds often operate on a reservation system, especially during peak seasons, and it's crucial to book in advance to secure a site, particularly if you desire one of the first-come, first-served lakefront spots. Inquiring about any potential seasonal passes or discounts that might be available for frequent visitors or local residents could also be beneficial. While specific promotions are not mentioned, the campground's inherent affordability, being a lower-cost alternative in the region, can be considered a significant benefit for budget-conscious local campers.
In conclusion, Perch Lake Campground offers local residents of Drummond and the surrounding areas a quality, low-cost, and quiet rustic "camping near me" experience within the scenic Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Its key features include private campsites, access to hiking trails, and proximity to the recreational opportunities of Lake Owen and the town of Cable. While the amenities are basic, with vault toilets and hand-pumped water, the affordability and tranquil environment make it an attractive option for those seeking a more traditional and nature-focused camping getaway. The nearby Lake Owen Picnic Grounds provide an excellent swimming beach, compensating for the less ideal swimming conditions directly at Perch Lake. Local users are encouraged to check recreation.gov or contact the National Forest Service for the latest information on fees and reservations to plan their affordable and peaceful camping trip to Perch Lake Campground.

Perch Lake Campground Reviews
Very private, affordable campsite. 👊 Does not have hook ups, there is a vault toilet and pump water. Some sites are near the lake, first come first serve.
