Pine Flats Campground Introduce
Looking for a tranquil "camping near me" experience away from the crowds? Pine Flats Campground, located on Mad River Rd in Entiat, WA 98822, USA, offers a small and picturesque setting along the river. Based on recent reviews, this first-come-first-served campground provides a peaceful retreat with basic amenities and access to both the river and mountain trails. Let's explore the environment, services, and features that make Pine Flats Campground a potentially ideal choice for those seeking a quieter camping experience.
The Environment: Riverside Beauty and Mountain Access
Pine Flats Campground is described as "beautiful and quiet," suggesting a serene natural environment. Its location on Mad River Road indicates direct access to the Mad River, a feature particularly highlighted by one reviewer who stayed at campsite #1, noting its "own private access to the river." This proximity to the river likely offers opportunities for enjoying the water, although one review cautions that the river can be "running fast and strong" and potentially dangerous. The sound of the flowing river likely adds to the peaceful ambiance of the campground.
In addition to the riverside setting, Pine Flats Campground also boasts a "trailhead leading way up into the mountains from the campground." This provides campers with immediate access to hiking opportunities, allowing for exploration of the surrounding mountainous terrain. The combination of river access and mountain trails makes Pine Flats an appealing destination for those who enjoy a variety of outdoor activities.
The campground's relative distance from popular tourist destinations like Leavenworth and Chelan seems to contribute to its quieter atmosphere. With only six campsites, the campground tends to be less crowded, enhancing the sense of tranquility. One reviewer noted that during their stay, only half of the sites were occupied, further emphasizing the peaceful nature of Pine Flats.
The campsites themselves are reported to be of a "generous size," offering ample space for setting up tents and enjoying the area around the site. The overall impression is of a natural and relatively secluded environment that promotes relaxation.
Services: Basic Amenities in a Natural Setting
Pine Flats Campground offers basic but essential services for campers. According to a review from August 2020, the campground has "two outhouses" for restroom facilities. While not modern flush toilets, outhouses provide a necessary amenity in a more rustic setting. The presence of "trash cans" indicates that there is a system for waste disposal, helping to keep the campground clean.
A "water pump" is also available, providing a potential source of water for campers. However, one reviewer mentioned bringing their own water and could not vouch for the cleanliness of the water from the pump, suggesting that campers might want to exercise caution or bring their own supply. The hand pump well water was also mentioned in another review, confirming the presence of a water source, though its reliability and potability are not definitively stated.
It's important to note that as of August 2020, there was a fee of $8 per night for one vehicle, and a pass was required, specifically a "US Forest Service something, but not Discover." This indicates that campers should be prepared to pay a small fee and possibly obtain the correct pass before their stay. It would be advisable to check the current fee structure and pass requirements before visiting.
The proximity to supplies is mentioned as a positive, suggesting that while the campground offers a sense of remoteness, essential items are not too far away if needed.
Features: Riverside Access, Hiking, and Quiet Ambiance
Pine Flats Campground offers several key features that make it an attractive option for "camping near me":
- Riverside Camping: Direct access to the Mad River, with campsite #1 having private access.
- Hiking Trail Access: A trailhead within the campground leads into the mountains.
- Quiet Atmosphere: Its location away from major tourist hubs contributes to a peaceful experience.
- Generous Campsite Sizes: Providing ample space for campers.

Pine Flats Campground Reviews
as of Aug. 2020 - 6 campsites, first come first served. there are two outhouses, trash cans, and a water pump (though I brought my own and can't vouch for how clean the water from the pump is).it cost $8/night for one vehicle, and required a pass that I didn't have. US Forest Service something, but not Discover.I found Pine Flats beautiful and quiet. campsite #1, where I stayed, is the only site with its own private access to the river. I enjoyed this immensely.though it has just 6 campsites, during my stay only half were filled. I think it's far enough from Leavenworth and Chelan that it attracts a quieter type.I felt more relaxed here than I have in quite awhile.
Aug 31, 2020 · Abby KrajewskiNice little place. Trailhead leading way up into the mountains from the campground. Hand pump well water. Sites are a generous size. River was running fast and strong - could sweep someone away easily. Close to supplies when you need them.
