Port Jervis Elks Brox Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" with breathtaking scenery and outdoor adventure? Port Jervis Elks Brox Campground, located at 201 Skyline Dr, Port Jervis, NY 12771, USA, might be the destination you're looking for. While recent reports suggest potential issues with its operational status, past visitor experiences highlight the unique appeal of this mountaintop campground. You can attempt to contact them at (845) 288-3165 or +1 845-288-3165 to inquire about their current status before making any plans.
For local users browsing the "camping near me" category, Port Jervis Elks Brox Campground has been described by some as a "hidden gem" offering "unbelievable views" from its high mountain location. One enthusiastic reviewer praised the "super nice hosts" and the overall quality of the campground. A notable positive mentioned was the cleanliness of the port-a-potties provided. This visitor also highlighted the availability of "lots of nice hiking and biking trails," making it an attractive option for outdoor enthusiasts seeking active recreation during their camping trip.
Beyond the natural beauty of the campground itself, the location offers the added benefit of being near the "quaint and really fun" town of Port Jervis. This nearby town provides opportunities for exploration, with the reviewer specifically mentioning "lots of good food and antique shops." This suggests that campers at Port Jervis Elks Brox Campground can enjoy a blend of outdoor tranquility and the charm of a local community, offering a well-rounded getaway experience within the "camping near me" vicinity.
The positive review concludes with a strong intention to return, expressing gratitude to the hosts, Wayne and Mike. This positive feedback paints a picture of a welcoming and scenic campground that caters to those seeking outdoor activities and a connection with nature, coupled with the option to explore a nearby town.
However, it is crucial for local users considering this "camping near me" option to be aware of a more recent and concerning report. A visitor who attempted to stay at the campground in August 2023 found indications that it might be closed. This individual reported encountering a chain across the entrance to the campsite and padlocked port-a-potties. Notably, they observed that no one else was camping there at the time. Attempts to contact the phone number listed on Google Maps were unsuccessful, as it was "permanently engaged." Additionally, the web links on a notice board at the campsite entrance were found to be invalid.
Despite the signs of potential closure, the visitor noted that there was no explicit signage prohibiting camping. However, given the lack of other campers and the isolated location, they personally felt uncomfortable pitching their tent. This firsthand account raises significant concerns about the current operational status of Port Jervis Elks Brox Campground and suggests that it might not be a reliable option for "camping near me" at this time.
The discrepancy between the positive past review and the recent report of potential closure highlights the importance of verifying the current status of the campground before making any plans. For local users actively searching within the "camping near me" category, the information regarding the chained entrance, padlocked facilities, and unresponsive phone number serves as a strong cautionary note.
If you are considering Port Jervis Elks Brox Campground based on its previously praised scenic views, hiking and biking trails, and proximity to the town of Port Jervis, it is highly recommended that you attempt to contact the provided phone numbers to ascertain whether the campground is currently open and accepting visitors. Given the recent report, relying solely on past positive feedback could lead to a disappointing experience.
The fact that the phone number on Google Maps is reportedly "permanently engaged" further complicates the situation and makes it difficult to obtain up-to-date information. The invalid web links mentioned by the recent visitor also suggest a lack of active management or maintenance of the campground's online presence.
For local campers looking for "camping near me" in the Port Jervis area, it would be wise to have alternate plans in place in case Port Jervis Elks Brox Campground is indeed closed or not currently operating. Exploring other campgrounds in the vicinity that have more recent and positive operational reports would be a prudent approach to ensure a successful camping trip.
In conclusion, while Port Jervis Elks Brox Campground has been described as a scenic "hidden gem" with excellent views and outdoor activities in the past, recent evidence strongly suggests that it may currently be closed. Local users searching for "camping near me" should exercise caution and make every effort to verify the campground's operational status before planning a visit. The unresponsive phone number and signs of closure warrant careful consideration and the exploration of alternative camping options in the area.

Port Jervis Elks Brox Campground Reviews
Awesome campgrounds and super nice hosts! High atop the mountain with unbelievable views, this campground is definitely a hidden gem. Super clean port-a-potties were a plus... lots of nice hiking and biking trails. The town below is quaint and really fun to explore with lots of good food and antique shops. We'll definitely be returning! Thanks Wayne and Mike!!
Oct 25, 2021 · Double YouThis campsite appears to be CLOSED … I was there in August 2023. There is a chain across the entrance to the campsite and the portapottys are padlocked. There was no one else camping there. The number on google maps is permanently engaged. The web links on the notice board at the campsite entrance are invalid. There was nothing to say you couldn’t camp there, but as there was no one else around and the location is quite isolated, I personally didn’t feel comfortable pitching my tent. If you can’t get through to the number on google maps, I would suggest making alternate plans
Aug 23, 2023 · Robert TalbotA lovely little hidden gem of a campground under two hours out of NYC (accessible by car or Metro North rail service) and operated by volunteers of the town's Outdoors Club. Up on the mountain surrounding Port Jervis you can get that "away from it all" camping experience (platform site recommended). You will also get plenty of hiking or mountain biking time on the numerous trails with varying levels of difficulty that surround the campsite (definitely bring your hiking boots). There is access to firewood, potable water and porta-potties on site. If you have other needs, the town is right at the base of the mountain with stores, restaurants and services nearby. There is also a developing boutique section of town with more up and coming stores and venues worth checking out. There are also a few small historical sites in town with more coming in the future. Definitely worth a visit!
