For local users in Utah and those searching for "camping near me" in a location that combines river access with proximity to a lake and stunning natural beauty, Riverside Campground, situated within Rockport State Park on Riverside Campground Rd, Coalville, UT 84017, USA, offers an appealing option. This introduction provides a detailed, objective overview of the campground based on the available customer reviews, highlighting its environment, services, and features to help you determine if it's the ideal camping destination for your next outdoor adventure.
Riverside Campground's primary environmental feature, as its name suggests and as confirmed by customer reviews, is its location "right next to the river." This riverfront setting offers campers easy access to the water, which is highlighted as a "great spot for fishing." For those searching for "camping near me" with opportunities for angling, Riverside Campground appears to be a promising choice. The presence of a river also likely contributes to the overall ambiance of the campground, potentially offering soothing sounds and opportunities for water-related activities beyond fishing, although these are not explicitly mentioned in the reviews.
Another significant environmental aspect of Riverside Campground is its proximity to Rockport Lake, described as "a short drive away." This provides campers with the added benefit of lake access, potentially opening up opportunities for boating, swimming, and other water sports, depending on the regulations and facilities available at Rockport State Park. The combination of riverfront and lake access enhances the appeal of Riverside Campground for a variety of outdoor enthusiasts searching for "camping near me."
The scenic beauty surrounding Riverside Campground is also noteworthy. One reviewer mentioned the "view of the stars at night was stunning!" This suggests that the location offers relatively dark skies, ideal for stargazing and enjoying the celestial panorama, a significant draw for many campers seeking a connection with nature. Additionally, another reviewer, passing through on a long road trip, was so pleased with their stop that they remarked on the overall pleasantness of the area.
In terms of services and features, the customer reviews provide valuable insights. The camp hosts at Riverside Campground are described as "friendly and helpful." This is a crucial aspect of any campground experience, as helpful hosts can enhance the stay by providing information, assistance, and ensuring a smooth and pleasant environment for all campers. The positive feedback about the hosts suggests that visitors can expect a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.
One potential environmental factor that campers should be aware of is the lack of extensive shade. One reviewer noted, "Not very much shade," which could be a consideration, especially during the hot summer months. Campers planning to stay at Riverside Campground might want to bring their own shade structures or choose campsites that offer some natural cover if shade is a priority for their comfort.
Another environmental element mentioned in one review is the "noise from the dam," which was "pretty loud" at campsite 16. While the reviewer noted that it "wasn't a deal breaker," it's something to be aware of, especially for light sleepers or those seeking absolute tranquility. The proximity to a dam could be a source of consistent background noise in certain areas of the campground. When making reservations or choosing a site, it might be worth inquiring about the noise levels from the dam at different locations within the campground.
The positive experience of a traveler who felt like they were "back in Canada for a minute" due to the niceness of everyone suggests a welcoming and friendly atmosphere among both the staff and fellow campers. This sense of community can greatly enhance the camping experience for those searching for "camping near me" where they can feel comfortable and enjoy interacting with others.
While the reviews highlight the river access, lake proximity, friendly hosts, and stunning night skies as major pros, they do not provide specific details about other common campground amenities such as restrooms, showers, picnic tables, fire pits, or hookups for RVs. Local users searching for "camping near me" with specific amenity requirements should contact Riverside Campground directly using the provided phone numbers ((435) 336-2241 and +1 435-336-2241) to inquire about the availability of these facilities and any associated fees.
Given that Riverside Campground is located within Rockport State Park, campers can likely expect to have access to the park's overall facilities and recreational opportunities, which might include hiking trails, boating ramps, and picnic areas. Information about park entrance fees and specific regulations can usually be found on the Utah State Parks website or by contacting the park directly.
In conclusion, Riverside Campground at Rockport State Park in Coalville, UT, offers a compelling "camping near me" option for those who value riverfront access, fishing opportunities, proximity to a lake, friendly hosts, and exceptional stargazing. Riverside Campground Reviews
Great campground! Not very much shade, but right next to the river. Great spot for fishing. Noise from the dam was pretty loud in our site (site 16), but wasn't a deal breaker. Lake is a short drive away. Camp hosts were friendly and helpful. The view of the stars at night was stunning! Will be back!
Jul 16, 2023 · Brittney PA bit out of my way on a long road trip but I am so glad I took the time to stop here. The park had great sites and everyone was unbelievably nice. I thought I was back in Canada for a minute. The shade and river were great features.
Dec 24, 2024 · Knott TellingNice campground, I enjoyed this campground for over 35 years. Nice access to the lake and river. Best enjoyed in the middle of the week during the summer.
Jun 16, 2018 · Timothy OrtegaWe go about every year for an event. Always a nice place with river noise all night.
Sep 05, 2023 · Bryan MerkleyNot the best view ever. Close to the lake and river though. Has vault toilets. Campgrounds are all fairly close to each other. With some shade trees. Everything was decent and convenient though. Will go back in the future.
