One reviewer who stayed for three months in Northwood found the area to be "very quiet" and their stay at Saddleback to be "very uneventful which is a good thing." This immediately highlights the tranquil environment of the campground, which can be a significant draw for those looking to escape the noise and bustle of everyday life. While the sites did not have sewer hookups, the campground provided a convenient service of weekly tank pump-outs. The reviewer also noted that the staff was "helpful and went out of their way to accommodate our needs," indicating a positive experience with the campground management. They mentioned that the location is about 30 minutes away from most amenities, so planning for drives to shop for supplies is necessary, and while there is a nearby Hannaford grocery store, it might not offer the best prices.
Another reviewer described Saddleback as a "small, reasonably priced campground" that is a "great place if you are looking for quiet, peaceful nature." This reinforces the theme of tranquility and natural beauty. They also praised the fact that the "bathrooms, showers and laundry are well maintained," which is essential for a comfortable camping experience. This reviewer noted that the campground seemed "geared more for retired folk" and mentioned the absence of a pool or playground, indicating a focus on a more relaxed and less activity-intensive atmosphere. The campground offers water and electric sites, as well as a dump station. The reviewer's site, #8, was described as "mostly level, pull-through with a great view of the pond with fountain," which suggests some sites offer scenic views and ease of access for larger vehicles. They "loved our 10 day stay" despite the "roads being a little tight," managing fine in their 35 ft motorhome with a towed vehicle. They also specifically mentioned that "Tabitha is very nice and helpful," echoing the positive feedback about the staff.
Based on these reviews, the environment of Saddleback Campground is characterized by quiet and peaceful nature. It seems to be a smaller campground that prioritizes a tranquil atmosphere over extensive recreational facilities like pools or playgrounds. The presence of a pond with a fountain suggests some scenic elements within the campground itself. While it's located about 30 minutes from shopping areas, the immediate surroundings offer a serene natural setting.
The services and features include water and electric hookups at the sites, a dump station, and a weekly tank pump-out service for sites without sewer connections. The campground also offers well-maintained bathrooms, showers, and laundry facilities. The staff, particularly mentioned as being helpful and accommodating (and Tabitha being very nice), seems to be a strong positive aspect of the campground.
The campground appears to be geared towards those seeking a more relaxed and quiet experience, possibly attracting more mature campers. The availability of pull-through sites with scenic views is a notable feature, especially for RVers. The reasonably priced nature of the campground also adds to its appeal.
The reviews do not contain any specific promotional information, such as discounts for local residents or special rates for longer stays. To inquire about pricing, availability, or any current promotions, you would need to contact Saddleback Campground directly.
In summary, for local users searching for "camping near me" in Northwood, NH, who prioritize a quiet and peaceful natural environment, Saddleback Campground is highly recommended. The positive feedback highlights the helpful staff, well-maintained facilities (bathrooms, showers, laundry), and the scenic beauty of some sites, particularly those overlooking the pond. While it's a bit removed from major shopping areas and lacks amenities like a pool or playground, its tranquility and focus on nature make it an ideal retreat for those seeking a relaxing camping experience. Saddleback Campground Reviews
We stayed here in Northwood for three months. The area is very quiet and for the most part our stay at Saddleback was very uneventful which is a good thing. None of the available sites had sewer hookups but they had someone come around once a week and pump out your tanks. The staff was helpful and went out of their way to accommodate our needs. You're about 30 minutes from just about anything so be prepared for a drive if you want to shop for supplies. There's a Hannaford grocery store nearby but it's not the best prices.
Jan 13, 2025 · Raymond IsbillSmall, reasonably priced campground. Great place if you are looking for quiet, peaceful nature. Bathrooms, showers and laundry are well maintained. Geared more for retired folk. No pool or playground. Water and electric sites. Dump station. Our site #8 was mostly level, pull-through with a great view of the pond with fountain. We loved our 10 day stay. Roads are a little tight, but we managed fine in our 35 ft motorhome with toad. Tabitha is very nice and helpful.
Jul 27, 2024 · Debbi K JesticeSecond rate campground with an unprofessional owner. Site was too small for motorhome. Roads inside campground were tight and lined with rental trailers.Owner threatened us when we sideswiped a planting box. We should have known not to use this facility when the owner couldn't even be bothered to return booking calls. The facility was not very well maintained and absolutely not as represented. The only redeeming part of the stay was the staff. The office manager and grounds keeper were pleasant and professional.Do whatever you can to avoid this campground.
Jun 13, 2024 · Mark ConantStayed here passing through on an the East Coast trip. Campground very accommodating nice setting lake has a fountain we were on a site right on the lake. Great view. Level site which was great for us as our levelers quit working the leg before. Manager had his RV tech meet us immediately after arriving (after 5) to check on the problem. Great campground service and reasonable tech charge. Thank you! Bathroom and showers were adequate need an upgrade and could use some heat. It is close to closing as end of season so heat may not really be an option.
Oct 12, 2021 · MrDERF/FREDKChose this campground based on price and pets being allowed. Excellent decision! Owner is awesome and extremely hospitable. He worked with us on picking the site for our tents and also was flexible on our dates (weren't sure when we were leaving). All the other campers were friendly and the owner checked with us daily to make sure we were satisfied. They treated us southerners very well! If we are ever back in the area, this will be the campground for us.
