Slide Creek Campground

NF-500, Blue River, OR 97413, USA

4.0
Pretty nice campground. Some of the spaces are very small and would be nice for one car and a small tent. There are a few larger ones that can hold a few tents. Some are really close to neighbor sites with not much between them so not very private. Some sites are also pushed up against the driveway which would be annoying if a car drove by at night. On the plus side, spaces are way too small for rvs so you don't need to deal with generator noise. It was pretty quiet the whole time we were there on weekdays (only one other group in the whole camp). Water is a pretty long walk and the reservoir is a longer walk. On the map it looks like it's right next to the camp but the camp is up a big hill so there is a cliff (fenced) to look down on the water. Overall pretty nice for access to the reservoir and the hot springs but not the best camping sites for size or privacy. - Lisa Notman

For local users seeking a tranquil "camping near me" experience in the vicinity of Blue River, Oregon, Slide Creek Campground, located at NF-500, Blue River, OR 97413, USA, presents an option worth considering. Reservations can be made by calling (877) 444-6777 or +1 877-444-6777. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground offers a relatively quiet, tent-focused environment with access to a reservoir and proximity to hot springs, although potential campers should be aware of certain limitations regarding site size and privacy.

One reviewer described Slide Creek Campground as "pretty nice" overall, but highlighted variability in the size of the campsites. According to this feedback, some spaces are quite small, ideally suited for a single car and a small tent. However, there are a few larger sites capable of accommodating multiple tents. This suggests that groups or families requiring more space should inquire specifically about the availability of these larger sites when making reservations.

Privacy between campsites appears to be another factor to consider. The reviewer noted that some sites are situated very close to neighboring sites with minimal separation, potentially impacting the sense of seclusion for some campers. Additionally, certain campsites are located adjacent to the driveway, which could lead to disturbances from passing vehicles, particularly at night. Therefore, when booking, it might be beneficial to inquire about the location of the site relative to the driveway and other campsites to maximize privacy.

On the positive side, the size limitations of the campsites mean that "spaces are way too small for rvs," which, according to the reviewer, eliminates the issue of generator noise often associated with RV camping. This makes Slide Creek Campground a potentially appealing option for tent campers seeking a quieter environment. The reviewer also noted that during their weekday stay, the campground was very peaceful, with only one other group present.

Access to water is a notable aspect of Slide Creek Campground. The reviewer mentioned that the water spigots are a "pretty long walk" from some campsites, and the reservoir is an even longer walk. This is an important consideration for planning purposes, as campers will need to factor in the distance when needing water for drinking, cooking, or cleaning. The second reviewer corroborated the central location of the water spigots, advising campers to bring a water jug for convenience.

The proximity to the reservoir is a significant draw of Slide Creek Campground, but the terrain presents a unique situation. Despite appearing adjacent to the campground on a map, the camp is situated atop a "big hill," resulting in a cliff (with a fence for safety) overlooking the water. This means that direct access to the reservoir from the immediate campsites may involve a significant descent. The second reviewer described the water as "beautiful" and noted it as a "great swim spot." However, they also pointed out a crucial restriction: "you can’t drive down the hill as the land management gets pretty upset if you park down there." This implies that accessing the reservoir for swimming or other activities might require a walk down a hill and that parking closer to the water is not permitted.

The second reviewer also commented on the boat launch, noting that the gravel is large, making it unclear how easy it would be to launch a boat. Despite this, they still found the area "breathtaking," further emphasizing the scenic beauty of the reservoir and its surroundings. This suggests that while bringing a boat might present logistical challenges, the reservoir itself is a significant visual and recreational asset.

In terms of amenities, the second reviewer mentioned the presence of "pit toilets that were clean." This indicates that while flush toilets and potentially showers are not available, basic sanitation facilities are provided and maintained. The absence of RV hookups has already been noted, reinforcing the campground's focus on tent and potentially van/car camping, as mentioned by the second reviewer ("No RV’s allowed, just rents but you can sleep in your van/car").

An interesting and potentially unique feature mentioned by the second reviewer was the opportunity to watch "fire planes refill their water." This suggests that the reservoir serves a functional purpose in supporting firefighting efforts in the region, which could be an occasional point of interest for campers.

Based on the combined feedback, Slide Creek Campground offers a relatively quiet, tent-centric camping experience with access to a beautiful reservoir that is suitable for swimming. The management, likely the land management mentioned, appears to have rules regarding vehicle access to the reservoir. Campers should be prepared for potentially small and less private campsites, a walk to the water spigots, and a longer walk down a hill to reach the reservoir. The absence of RVs and the generally quiet atmosphere during weekdays are significant advantages for those seeking a more traditional camping experience.

Information regarding specific services beyond the pit toilets and water spigots is not provided in the reviews. It would be prudent for potential campers to inquire about the availability of other common campground amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings, or trash disposal facilities when making reservations.

Similarly, no promotional information is included in the provided reviews. To learn about any special offers, discounts for extended stays, or seasonal promotions at Slide Creek Campground, local users should contact the reservation system directly using the provided phone numbers. Given that this is likely a managed forest service or similar campground (indicated by the land management reference), promotional offers might be limited, but it's always worth inquiring about any available discounts, especially for local residents or off-season camping.

In conclusion, for those seeking "camping near me" near Blue River, Oregon, and prioritizing a quieter, tent-focused experience with access to a scenic reservoir and proximity to hot springs, Slide Creek Campground is a viable option. However, potential campers should be aware of the variability in campsite sizes, the potential for limited privacy, the distance to water sources, and the need to walk down a hill to access the reservoir. The prohibition of RVs contributes to a more tranquil environment. For detailed information about campsite availability, specific amenities, and any potential regulations or recommendations from the land management, it is recommended to contact the reservation service at (877) 444-6777 or +1 877-444-6777.
