If your search for "camping near me" brings you to the captivating landscapes of Montana, Spring Creek Campground and Trout Ranch, located at 257 Main Boulder Rd, Big Timber, MT 59011, USA, offers a unique blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. Situated along the spectacular Boulder River, this campground provides a picturesque setting for RVers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. While some aspects are undergoing improvements, the existing features, coupled with the stunning location and welcoming management, make it a noteworthy option for your Montana camping experience.
The environment at Spring Creek Campground and Trout Ranch is a major highlight, with multiple reviewers emphasizing the wonderful location directly adjacent to the Boulder River. The proximity to the river is described as "really spectacular," offering campers the soothing sounds of flowing water and breathtaking views right from their campsites. For those searching for "camping near me" with a focus on natural beauty and waterfront access, this campground appears to be a prime choice. The ability to enjoy the river from your campsite creates a truly immersive outdoor experience.
One of the unique features of this campground is its identity as a "Trout Ranch," suggesting excellent opportunities for fishing. The Boulder River is known for its trout population, making Spring Creek Campground an ideal destination for anglers seeking "camping near me" with convenient access to quality fishing. One reviewer specifically mentioned "enjoyed fishing & listening to the river at night," highlighting the ease of engaging in this popular pastime right behind their RV site. This combination of camping and fishing is a significant draw for many outdoor enthusiasts.
For RV travelers searching for "camping near me" with good site setups, Spring Creek Campground seems to deliver. One recent visitor with an RV was "amazed at the set up of each RV spot, especially since they were good size and have grass instead of gravel." The presence of grassy sites is often preferred by RVers for their aesthetic appeal and the comfort they provide compared to gravel. The reviewer also noted that the sites were of a good size, suggesting ample space for RVs and potentially additional setup areas. This attention to the quality of the RV sites contributes to a more comfortable and enjoyable stay.
The management and employees at Spring Creek Campground and Trout Ranch are consistently praised for their friendly and welcoming demeanor. One reviewer described them as "so friendly and welcoming," and another recounted how the management was "understanding" and provided assistance when their truck broke down. This level of helpfulness and positive interaction with the staff can significantly impact the overall camping experience, making guests feel valued and supported. The positive comments about the management suggest a well-run and guest-oriented campground.
While the overall experience seems positive, some reviewers have mentioned areas that are currently undergoing or in need of improvement. One camper noted that the campground was "very pricey," suggesting that the cost might be higher compared to other options for "camping near me." Another reviewer appreciated the ongoing expansion and makeover but pointed out that the limited number of currently open facilities, such as "one shower for men & one shower for women," could be "alittle tight." They also suggested installing more hooks in the clean and nice showers.
Adding to the feedback on the shower facilities, another camper recounted an experience with fluctuating water temperature and pressure. While initially impressed with the shower, they experienced a sudden change to "scolding hot" water and a drop in pressure. Although the water eventually cooled enough to rinse, the low pressure persisted. This feedback highlights a potential issue with the shower system that prospective campers should be aware of, particularly while the campground is undergoing renovations.
Despite these concerns about pricing and temporary limitations in facilities due to ongoing improvements, the positive aspects of Spring Creek Campground and Trout Ranch are compelling. The spectacular location on the Boulder River, the excellent trout fishing opportunities, the spacious and grassy RV sites, and the friendly management create a strong foundation for a memorable camping experience. The fact that the campground is expanding and getting a makeover suggests a commitment to enhancing the facilities and overall guest experience in the future.
One reviewer mentioned the proximity to the town of Big Timber, which is just a few miles away. They specifically recommended the Grand Hotel Restaurant for dinner and drinks, providing a local dining option for campers who might want a break from cooking at their campsite. This accessibility to a nearby town adds to the convenience of the campground, offering a balance between the tranquility of the natural setting and access to local amenities.
For those planning a trip to Montana in 2025, as one reviewer indicated, Spring Creek Campground and Trout Ranch appears to be a "best kept secret" worth considering. The intention of a repeat visit speaks volumes about the positive impression the campground left on its guests. The combination of the beautiful riverfront location, the fishing opportunities, the quality of the RV sites, and the welcoming atmosphere makes it a strong contender for anyone searching for "camping near me" in the Big Timber area.

Spring Creek Campground and Trout Ranch Reviews
The location is wonderful & we really enjoyed being right against the Boulder River, it was really spectacular. I do, however, think the campground was very pricey.I really do appreciate the fact that the campground is expanding and getting a make over. I know to do that you have to charge accordingly, but the facilities that remain open, such as one shower for men & one shower women was alittle tight. I would strongly suggest to install more hooks on the wall. The shower is very clean & nice with a locked door! All was great until I was taking a shower.I was all soaped up and shampoo in my hair. I was amazed at how wonderful the shower was. All of a sudden the shower was scolding hot and the water pressure dropped! I stood there not knowing what to do, even when I turned the handle all the way to cold, it was still hot. After a few minutes the water was cool enough to rinse the shampoo out of my hair but still low water pressure.(just think you should know).
Sep 24, 2024 · Donna SimensenMy wife and I recently brought our RV to Montana and stayed at the Spring Creek Campground. We were amazed at the set up of each RV spot, especially since they were good size and have grass instead of gravel. The place is immaculate and the campground manger and employees are so friendly and welcoming. It also was a plus to have the beautiful Boulder River right behind us and enjoyed fishing & listening to the river at night. The town of Big Timber is a few miles away from the campground and the Grand Hotel Restaurant is a great place for dinner and drinks. We had the misfortune of our truck breaking down and the management was understanding and provided a parking spot in an unused area until we can get back there to pick it up. This might be the best kept secret in Montana and we are definitely planning another trip in 2025. Thank you Bob & Helen
Aug 16, 2024 · BobVery nice RV Park. Clean, well maintained grounds. Some sites are backed up to the river with amazing views. In the process of expanding. Poor cell signal but free wifi available. FHU, level spacious sites. Friendly and accommodating managers. Only stayed 1 night so didn't use amenities. Overall pleasant experience and would like to return for a longer stay.
Oct 19, 2024 · Connie EllisNice location by the river. Very nice bathroom and shower. Laundry room. The staff was nice and helpful. The problem when we camped was there was alot of construction going on. I think when it is done it will be very nice. There was enough room between campsites. My favorite was being right by rushing river and the sound was great for sleeping!
Jul 22, 2024 · Jenna WightGreat updated campground right on the Boulder River. Very quiet and secure, hidden off the road and behind a gate. WIFI at our site was unusable but up by the office it was fine. New bath and laundry buildings going in soon as well as updating of a bunch of sites on the other side of the campground. Pads are gravel and pretty level. Water, electric (all 30& 50amp)and sewer hookups are all new. Sites are spacious enough with a grass area and picnic table. Hosts were very friendly and bathrooms/showers were kept very clean. We would come again when we are back in the area if the WIFI has been upgraded.
