St. Augustine Beach KOA Holiday Introduce
For local residents in and around St. Augustine, Florida, seeking a "camping near me" experience with convenient access to the beach and the amenities of a well-known campground brand, the St. Augustine Beach KOA Holiday, located at 525 W Pope Rd, St. Augustine, FL 32080, USA, offers a viable option. While reviews highlight both positive aspects and some considerations, this introduction aims to provide a comprehensive overview for local users considering this KOA for their camping needs.
The environment of St. Augustine Beach KOA Holiday is characterized by its proximity to the popular St. Augustine Beach. While not directly on the beach, reviewers note that it is "really close to the beach," making it a significant draw for those wanting to enjoy the sun and sand. However, access to the beach requires a bit of travel. One reviewer mentioned a 2.5-mile bike ride down a busy highway, although they also noted a local shortcut within the campground that reduces the distance to 1.5 miles. This suggests that while the beach is accessible, it may not be a short walk directly from most campsites. The campground's location is also described as being "impacted on all sides by business and homes," indicating a more urban or suburban setting rather than a secluded natural environment. This city location also contributes to "a fair amount of noise pollution" at night, which is a factor that light sleepers might want to consider. Despite this, the convenience to the beach and other local attractions remains a key environmental feature for many.
The services and features of St. Augustine Beach KOA Holiday, based on the customer reviews, include a mix of standard KOA offerings and some specific observations:
- **Proximity to the Beach:** As mentioned, the campground's nearness to St. Augustine Beach is a primary feature, offering relatively easy access by bike or car, despite not being directly beachfront.
- **Swimming Pool:** The presence of a pool is noted as an anticipated amenity by one reviewer. However, they found the water to be "very cold" during their visit, rendering it unusable for swimming at that time. This suggests that pool temperature might be a factor to consider, especially during cooler months or periods of lower usage.
- **Tight Campsites:** Reviewers indicate that "the sites are tight," which is a common characteristic of some campgrounds, particularly those aiming to maximize the number of available spaces. This might mean less privacy and closer proximity to neighboring campers.
- **Quiet Nights:** Despite the daytime activity and surrounding businesses, one reviewer noted that it was "quiet at night," which is a positive aspect for those seeking a peaceful sleeping environment.
- **Trolley Service (for a Fee):** The campground offers a trolley service to local attractions, but it is mentioned as being "$40 ppl," which some might find expensive. This could be a convenient option for those not wanting to drive or bike, but the cost might deter some.
- **Clean, Neat, and Updated Bathhouses:** A significant positive is that the "bath houses were clean, neat and updated," indicating well-maintained and modern facilities for hygiene.
- **Friendly Desk Staff:** The front desk staff is described as "friendly," contributing to a positive first impression and check-in experience. However, other staff members are noted as being "indifferent."
- **Primarily Geared Towards RVs:** One reviewer who was tent camping observed that the campground "ITS Mainly for RVs," suggesting that the layout, site configurations, and potentially the amenities might be more oriented towards RV campers than those in tents. Tent campers should consider this when booking.
The reviews also provide some insights into the campground's suitability for local users:
- **Testing New Camp Gear Locally:** One reviewer who lives nearby (20 minutes away) used the campground to test new camping gear, highlighting its convenience for local residents wanting a nearby camping experience without extensive travel.
- **Alternative When Other Sites Are Booked:** The first reviewer stayed at this KOA because Anastasia State Park was full, indicating that it can serve as a viable alternative when other popular local camping spots are unavailable, potentially due to events or high demand.
- **Proximity to Local Attractions:** While the beach access requires some effort, the campground is situated in St. Augustine, providing relatively easy access by car to other attractions such as the Fountain of Youth (with free and easy parking) and the fort (with paid roadside parking).
No specific promotional information is mentioned in the provided reviews. Inquiring about KOA membership benefits might also be worthwhile for those who are members or considering becoming members.
For local residents seeking "camping near me" in St. Augustine Beach, the KOA Holiday offers a location close to the beach and access to standard campground amenities, including clean bathhouses and a pool (though temperature can vary). However, potential campers should be aware that beach access requires some travel, the campsites are tight, and the surrounding area is more urban, leading to potential noise. Tent campers should note that the campground may be primarily oriented towards RVs. Despite these considerations, the friendly desk staff and the convenience to local attractions make it a viable option, especially when other campgrounds are fully booked or for a local gear testing trip.
In conclusion, St. Augustine Beach KOA Holiday provides a conveniently located camping option for local users wanting to be near the beach and explore the attractions of St. Augustine. While it has its drawbacks, such as tight campsites and potential noise, the clean facilities and friendly staff are positives. Local campers should weigh these factors against their priorities and consider contacting the KOA directly for more information and to inquire about any local promotions.

St. Augustine Beach KOA Holiday Reviews
We camped here because we couldn’t get into Anastasia state park. It was a 2 1/2 mile bike ride down a busy highway to get to the beach. There’s a locals shortcut back in the campground which takes 1 1/2 miles off. I was excited to stay here because of the pool but it was very cold when I tested the water out. No swimming for me in that cold pool. The sites are tight but it was quiet at night. We didn’t take the trolly. It’s $40 ppl. We drove to fountain of youth. Free easy parking. Good attraction. The fort is small but parking there wasn’t bad either. Side of the rd for $3. The desk staff here is friendly. The others are indifferent.
Apr 22, 2025 · Sue PListen, we were tent camping at this KOA.ITS Mainly for RVs. It is really close to the beach, so that is good. It is impacted on all sides by business and homes. At night there is a fair amount of noise pollution. The bath houses were clean, neat and updated. We live 20 minutes away and was testing g new camp gear. All other sites were booked because of events like the players tournament. Points off for the city location. Otherwise great people and no issues.Recommend with reservation concerning noise.
Mar 24, 2025 · John WatersThank you so much for a great stay. Our cabin was fantastic and clean. Much more than we expected. Had a wonderful stay and all of the staff we encountered could not have been more polite and helpful. Park was clean! Staff was great! Cabin was perfect! Planning next trip back and will pass on to all of our friends.
Mar 16, 2025 · chris reynoldsHad a great trip to St Augustine. This KOA, is within minutes to historic St Augustine attractions and landmarks. The facilities were clean and there was room in between RV sites to make sitting outside enjoyable by campfire. We had a pull through, while although not as level as a newer Concrete slab pour, it was better than most campgrounds. Nice staff. We will be back.
Mar 09, 2025 · Martin PI stayed in the tent section with 20 of my friends. I recently had foot surgery where I was left non weight bearing and using an electric scooter and/or knee scooter. The bathrooms were definitely not ADA compliant. I had a hell of a time getting into them. I enclosed pictures as well. When I returned I did email the campground about my visit, I was then informed that on the other side of the campground was where the handicapped bathrooms were. There are no signs posted or anything about this in brochure or website. This sure isn’t helpful when needing to use the bathroom. One of my friends had to park his scooter at the corner and hobble into the bathroom. I had to use my knee scooter and wedge it into the stall and sometimes having to leave the stall door open… The sites themselves were nice a bit small but we managed. The prices do seem to be creeping up as we stayed there last year.
