Stoney Campground Introduce
For local residents of the Cherokee, North Carolina area searching for 'camping near me' and perhaps recalling cherished outdoor getaways, it is important to address the recent status of Stoney Campground, formerly located on Lewis, Louis Armachain Rd, Cherokee, NC 28719, USA. While the provided information includes positive recollections from past visitors, it also conveys the significant news that Stoney Campground's lease has expired and was not renewed, leading to its closure. Therefore, this introduction will serve as a tribute to what Stoney Campground once was, highlighting its environment, services, and features based on past experiences, while also informing local users of its current unavailability for future camping.
Based on the reviews, the environment of Stoney Campground was highly valued by its patrons. Its "great location" suggests proximity to desirable natural attractions in the Cherokee area, potentially including rivers (as one reviewer mentioned a "cabin on the river") and the surrounding scenic beauty of the North Carolina mountains. The description of it being a "place of relaxation away from it all" implies a tranquil setting where campers could escape the stresses of everyday life and immerse themselves in a more peaceful natural environment. The presence of what one reviewer referred to as permanent 'dwellings' suggests that the campground catered to longer-term stays and fostered a sense of settled community within its natural surroundings. The mention of a "cabin on the river" specifically points to the availability of riverside accommodations, offering the soothing sounds and scenic views associated with such locations.
In terms of services and features, Stoney Campground was described as "somewhat eclectic" and "unpretentious," suggesting a more laid-back and perhaps less formally structured camping experience. Its affordability was a significant draw for many, making it an accessible option for those seeking budget-friendly getaways. The presence of individuals who treasured their "get away permanent 'dwellings'" indicates that the campground accommodated longer-term residents who had established a sense of home there. The mention of neighbors celebrating holidays together further suggests a community-oriented environment with a social aspect for those who stayed for extended periods. While specific amenities like hookups, restrooms, or recreational facilities are not detailed, the focus on affordability and the establishment of permanent or semi-permanent dwellings implies that basic necessities were likely provided, fostering a comfortable if not overly luxurious camping experience. The existence of "cabins on the river" as mentioned by one long-term resident points to a specific type of accommodation available at the campground.
A key feature of Stoney Campground, evident from the reviews, was its strong sense of community. The description of "just nice people who treasured their get away permanent 'dwellings'" and the mention of "wonderful neighbors to celebrate holidays with" paints a picture of a close-knit and friendly atmosphere. This social element was clearly a significant part of the Stoney Campground experience, with friendships forming and a sense of belonging among its long-term visitors. The impending closure is deeply felt by this community, as highlighted by the sadness expressed over the loss of these neighborly connections. This strong community spirit was undoubtedly a major draw for those who chose to make Stoney Campground their regular retreat.
Given the news of its closure, any past promotional aspects are now largely historical. However, the reviews themselves offer insights into what made Stoney Campground appealing. Its affordability, great location (presumably offering access to the natural beauty of the Cherokee area), unpretentious atmosphere, and strong sense of community were clearly its key selling points. For local users who may have been familiar with Stoney's or are now searching for similar qualities in other campgrounds, these aspects provide a benchmark of what was valued by its long-term patrons. The "place of relaxation away from it all" description also served as an implicit promotion of the peaceful and tranquil environment it offered.
It is with a sense of finality that we must inform local users that Stoney Campground is no longer operational. The reviews poignantly describe the end of an era, with the lease expiring and all occupants being required to leave. The sadness expressed by former visitors underscores the significant role this campground played in their lives, providing not just a place to stay but a community and a cherished retreat. The memories of "summer days at Stoney's" will now be just that – memories for those who enjoyed its unique charm and camaraderie. While Stoney Campground is no longer an option in the 'camping near me' category for future stays, its story serves as a reminder of the value of affordable, well-located campgrounds that foster a sense of community among their visitors. Local users now seeking similar experiences will need to explore other campgrounds in the Cherokee area, keeping in mind the qualities that made Stoney Campground so beloved by its long-term residents.

Stoney Campground Reviews
Never stayed at Stoney's but have visited many times.A somewhat eclectic campground, affordable, great location, unpretentious.Just nice people who treasured their get away permanent 'dwellings'.A place of relaxation away from it all.......and now it has come to an end.The lease of the campground expired and was not renewed.Within a few weeks everybody has to leave. Dismantle your place or lose it.It saddens me to see this. Friendships will be lost, neighbors no more. For many those days of summer at Stoney's will be but a memory.Good luck to all of you who spent many happy days at this campground.
