Stratton Falls Campground Introduce
For local users in New York and surrounding areas seeking a "camping near me" experience that emphasizes nature and tranquility, Stratton Falls Campground, located at 2-169 Campsite Rd, Roxbury, NY 12474, USA, presents a noteworthy option. Situated near downtown Roxbury and Plattekill Mountain, this campground offers a setting with beautiful views and proximity to the Delaware Watershed. Based on customer reviews, it caters to those who appreciate a quieter camping environment focused on the natural surroundings, though it's important to note some contrasting feedback regarding amenities and pricing.
The environment surrounding Stratton Falls Campground is clearly a significant draw for many visitors. Its location near Roxbury, NY, places it within the scenic Catskill Mountains region, known for its rolling hills, forests, and waterways. The proximity to Plattekill Mountain suggests opportunities for hiking and enjoying mountain views, while its closeness to the Delaware Watershed hints at potential access to rivers and related natural landscapes. One reviewer specifically mentions "beautiful views" and a "peaceful" atmosphere, emphasizing the natural appeal of the campground. For local users seeking an escape into nature, this location offers a promising setting.
In terms of services and features, the campground appears to offer a somewhat basic but functional setup. A key positive aspect highlighted by one reviewer is the presence of "bathrooms and hot showers," which are often considered essential amenities for a comfortable camping experience. The campground is described as a "big grassy field," suggesting ample space for setting up tents and enjoying the outdoors. It is also mentioned as being "kid friendly," indicating a welcoming environment for families with children who are looking to camp in a natural setting.
However, another reviewer provides a contrasting perspective regarding the amenities relative to the price. They point out the lack of certain expected services, such as firewood and drinking water being provided. This reviewer explicitly states, "there is no firewood, and no water for drinking. When I asked where I could fill a water bottle, the owner told me I needed to buy water to drink." This suggests that campers need to come prepared with their own drinking water and firewood if they intend to have campfires. The campground operates on a "cash only" payment system, which is another point to consider for potential visitors who might prefer other forms of payment.
Despite the differing opinions on amenities, both reviewers mention the owners. One describes them as "very nice," noting that they "come by to visit check up on you and make sure everything is good," indicating a personal and attentive level of service. This positive interaction with the owners could contribute significantly to a pleasant stay for some campers. However, the other reviewer mentions experiencing a "figure it out yourself" attitude, which contrasts with the first reviewer's positive feedback. This suggests that individual experiences with the level of support might vary.
A specific pricing detail is provided: "$30 per night (1 tent, 1 vehicle)." One reviewer finds this price to be "incredibly high for the lack of amenities," while the other does not comment on the cost. This difference in perception highlights that the value proposition of Stratton Falls Campground might depend on individual priorities and expectations regarding camping amenities versus the appeal of a quiet, natural setting.
The primary feature of Stratton Falls Campground appears to be its emphasis on a natural and quiet camping experience, away from the noise of loud music and potentially disruptive neighbors, as noted by one satisfied camper. This focus on a peaceful environment could be a significant draw for nature lovers seeking tranquility. The proximity to downtown Roxbury and Plattekill Mountain offers potential for exploring local attractions and engaging in outdoor activities beyond the campground itself.
There is no explicit promotional information provided in the reviews. However, the positive testimonial from a repeat visitor who emphasizes the beauty of nature and the quiet atmosphere serves as an implicit endorsement for those seeking this type of camping experience. Conversely, the other review serves as a cautionary note regarding the limited amenities relative to the cost.
For local users searching for "camping near me" who prioritize a quiet, nature-focused environment and are willing to be self-sufficient regarding certain amenities like firewood and drinking water, Stratton Falls Campground could be a suitable option. The presence of hot showers and bathrooms is a plus for basic comfort. However, potential campers should be aware of the cash-only payment policy and the need to bring their own water and firewood.
The proximity to Roxbury offers convenience for accessing local services or exploring the town, while the nearness to Plattekill Mountain and the Delaware Watershed provides opportunities for outdoor adventures in the surrounding area. Families looking for a kid-friendly campground in a natural setting might also find this appealing, provided they are prepared for the level of amenities offered.
In conclusion, Stratton Falls Campground near Roxbury, NY, offers a camping experience centered around nature and quiet. Its location provides beautiful views and access to the surrounding natural attractions, including the Delaware Watershed and Plattekill Mountain. While it offers basic amenities like bathrooms and hot showers, it lacks firewood and drinking water, and operates on a cash-only basis. The price of $30 per tent per night might be considered high by some given the limited amenities. However, for local users who prioritize a peaceful and natural setting and are prepared to be self-sufficient, Stratton Falls Campground could be a worthwhile "camping near me" destination. Potential visitors should weigh the positive feedback regarding the environment and owners against the concerns raised about amenities and cost to make an informed decision.

Stratton Falls Campground Reviews
I don't under stand how can people give this place a bad review, me and my family been here twice already and is beyond amazing, if you camp to enjoy nature and the quiet this is your places your don't get annoying neighbors playing loud music. Is a big grassy field with bathrooms and hot showers, kid friendly, and the owners are very nice, they come by to visit check up on you and make sure everything is good. If you are setting up a tent the price is 30$ per night ( 1 tent, 1 vehicle). Once again if you are a nature lover this is your place!
Oct 08, 2019 · Sonya SantiagoStratton Falls Campground is very close to downtown Roxbury, NY and to Plattekill Mtn. It has beautiful views and is peaceful and close to Delaware Watershed. However, I find the price for camping ($30/tent) to be incredibly high for the lack of amenities. Payment is cash only, there is no firewood, and no water for drinking. When I asked where I could fill a water bottle, the owner told me I needed to buy water to drink. I found a similar "figure it out yourself" attitude that the other reviewer experienced. I will probably not return to this campground.
Jul 15, 2019 · Alison CrockerI like the place very much my Military friends and I stayed there last year. The husband and wife where great and the people where great to. Come from dc to there was great. The wash are was clean and nice its what we needed. IF they didn't have there was a country store down the street and a lot to see . American Legion Post 381 give's it 4 Stars. Its a rustic place and Quit this is it.

Sep 22, 2021 · Brian CoppersmithWhat kind of campground does not have wood or even know where you can get wood? The figure it out mentality doesn't create repeat business.
