Sycamore Canyon Campground Introduce
If you are searching for "Camping Near Me" and considering a camping experience in the Malibu area, Sycamore Canyon Campground, located at 9000 Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu, CA 90265, USA, offers a location with potential for natural beauty and beach access. You can reach them at (310) 457-8143 or +1 310-457-8143 for inquiries.
According to one positive review, Sycamore Canyon Campground seemingly "has it all—beautiful scenery, easy access to an awesome beach, and kind, professional park rangers." This suggests that the location boasts attractive natural surroundings and convenient access to the renowned Malibu coastline. The mention of "kind, professional park rangers" indicates a potentially positive interaction with the campground staff, which can significantly enhance the overall camping experience.
Furthermore, this reviewer highlighted the unique opportunity to "enjoy stargazing accompanied by the soothing sound of crashing waves" at night. This combination of clear night skies, typical of coastal areas away from city lights, and the relaxing ambiance of the ocean waves creates a potentially memorable and serene camping environment.
However, it is crucial to consider other feedback from recent and past visitors to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the current state of Sycamore Canyon Campground. One camper reported a specific issue with the facilities, noting that "the shower at one site was broken, so we had to walk to a more distant one." This indicates potential maintenance issues with the campground's amenities, which could lead to inconvenience for campers relying on these facilities.
A more concerning review, reflecting a past experience around 2013 but stated to be consistent with more recent feedback, paints a significantly less positive picture. This camper recounted having to "spend an hour picking up all the trash at my campsite before I even felt comfortable pitching my tent and setting up to cook." This raises serious concerns about the cleanliness and upkeep of individual campsites, suggesting a lack of adequate maintenance between visitors.
The same reviewer from 2013 also reported that "the hot showers didn't work and the drain was clogged on top of that with an inch of standing water as well." This further reinforces the issue of broken and poorly maintained facilities. Clogged drains and non-functional hot water can severely impact the comfort and hygiene of campers.
Adding to the negative aspects, this past visitor described the "toilets" as "filthy." Clean and functional restrooms are a fundamental requirement for any campground, and reports of uncleanliness are a significant deterrent for potential visitors.
The fact that a review from around 2013 highlights similar issues to more recent feedback ("it looks like nothing changed whatsoever given the rest of the reviews") is particularly troubling. It suggests a persistent pattern of neglect in maintaining the cleanliness of campsites and the functionality of essential amenities over an extended period.
Considering these contrasting reviews, prospective campers searching for "Camping Near Me" and considering Sycamore Canyon Campground should weigh the potential benefits of beautiful scenery, beach access, and helpful park rangers against the significant drawbacks of reported cleanliness issues (trash at campsites, filthy toilets) and broken or poorly maintained facilities (showers). The discrepancy between the positive and negative feedback highlights the importance of being prepared for potentially subpar conditions despite the attractive location.
It is important to note that no promotional information or discounts were mentioned in the provided reviews. Therefore, the evaluation is based solely on the described environment, services (or lack thereof in terms of maintenance), and features as experienced by past visitors.
For those still interested in Sycamore Canyon Campground due to its location and potential for scenic beauty and beach access, it would be prudent to seek more recent reviews from various sources to ascertain if the reported issues with cleanliness and maintenance have been addressed. Contacting the campground directly at the provided phone number might also offer insights into the current conditions and any ongoing improvements.
In conclusion, Sycamore Canyon Campground offers the allure of beautiful scenery, easy access to a great beach, and reportedly kind park rangers, along with the opportunity for stargazing by the ocean. However, potential visitors must be aware of significant concerns raised in both past and potentially recent reviews regarding trash at campsites, broken and clogged showers, and filthy toilets, indicating a lack of consistent maintenance. If cleanliness and well-maintained facilities are a top priority, exploring other options for "Camping Near Me" in the Malibu area might be advisable. If the location and natural beauty are paramount and you are prepared for potentially challenging conditions, Sycamore Canyon Campground might still be a consideration, but thorough research into the most current conditions is strongly recommended.

Jan 09, 2025 · Rob BradleyA very conflicting experience.Cons:Expensive.Spots are too close to each other.Ranger C. Phelps gave me the harshest treatment I have ever received from authorities, probably ever.On the bright side.Easy access to the beach, even at night.Close to Los Angeles for a quick getaway.
Dec 27, 2024 · Couch BuddhismGreat campground! Reserving online makes check in super quick and easy. The campground is located across PCH from the beach. There are a lot of trees creating a lot of shade which was awesome so it never got too hot. It is clean and secure feeling as park staff are driving around regularly. Some spots are larger than others so I suggest looking online at their map when booking. We tent camped but I’d say about 75% of people had campers. There are bathrooms but they were pretty dirty and unfortunately the sinks were not working. The bathrooms stopped working while we were there so they placed a portapotty in place of. The showers weren’t working either. They do have water faucets around as well as fire pits. I suggest bringing flashlights since it gets very dark and securing your trash as we did see raccoons around. The only real con for us is when going to the beach you have to cross PCH.
Oct 27, 2024 · Emily SantosBeautiful location, friendly atmosphere, great hiking trails, and we love being in nature. RV and 10 camping. No hook ups, so be prepared for Boondocking.
