The environment surrounding Taylor Pond Campground is its most significant feature, offering a true escape into the wilderness. Located near Au Sable Forks, NY, it is nestled within the vast and beautiful Adirondack Park. One reviewer vividly described the area as being surrounded by "nothing but forest," emphasizing the remote and unspoiled nature of the location. Taylor Pond itself is a central element, with its calm waters being particularly appealing to kayakers, as mentioned by a visitor. The water's mirror-like quality, reflecting the surrounding natural beauty, creates a truly breathtaking scene. The absence of private properties around the pond further enhances the sense of being immersed in nature, providing an unobstructed and serene environment. This setting is perfect for those seeking tranquility, opportunities for wildlife observation, and a break from the more developed campgrounds. The emphasis on the natural beauty and peacefulness suggests a location where one can truly "stop to smell the roses" and appreciate the simpler aspects of the outdoors.
The services at Taylor Pond Campground are described as "basic," aligning with its focus on a more traditional and less developed camping experience. There are approximately 25 basic campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and a fire pit, with some sites also including a grate for cooking over the fire. This suggests a more rustic camping style where campers are self-sufficient. In addition to these standard sites, the campground also offers other boat-in and hike-in sites, catering to those seeking even greater seclusion and a more adventurous experience. This indicates a commitment to preserving the natural integrity of the area and offering diverse camping options for different preferences. While specific details about restroom facilities or water sources are not mentioned, it's common for such campgrounds to have basic facilities like pit toilets and perhaps a communal water spigot. The knowledgeable and helpful nature of the staff, Steve and Frank, is also highlighted, suggesting that while the services might be basic, the human element of guidance and assistance is strong. The availability of boat-in and hike-in sites implies that access to certain areas might require either paddling or trekking, further enhancing the sense of wilderness and escape.
The features of Taylor Pond Campground cater to those who appreciate a more natural and less commercialized camping experience. The limited number of campsites (around 25) contributes to the quiet and uncrowded atmosphere, making it ideal for a retreat. The provision of a picnic table and fire pit at each basic site encourages traditional camping activities. The availability of boat-in and hike-in sites is a unique feature for those seeking a more remote and adventurous camping experience. The potential for hiking and some mountain or E-biking on the east side snowmobile trails adds to the recreational opportunities beyond just camping and kayaking. The early quiet hours contribute to the peaceful ambiance, allowing for a restful night's sleep under the stars. The calm waters of Taylor Pond are a significant feature for kayakers, offering excellent conditions for paddling and enjoying the scenery from the water. The surrounding forest, with no private properties nearby, provides a sense of complete immersion in nature and opportunities for wildlife viewing. The overall atmosphere is one of natural beauty, tranquility, and a chance to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

This is a great place for a retreat. Only 25 basic sites W/ picnic table & firepit. Some with grate. Other boat and/hike-in sites. Hiking and some mtn. or E-biking possible on east side snowmobile trails. Gets quiet early. Lots of kayaker when the pond is calm. Steve and Frank are great/knowledgeable. Plus no private properties around pond, nothing but forest.

While the facilities are limited, the pit toilets are well maintained. The caretaker is fantastic! He was kind, gracious and attentive to campers.
