Wapiti Campground Introduce
For local adventurers and travelers searching for "camping near me" in the Cody, Wyoming region, Wapiti Campground, located at 2225 US-14, Cody, WY 82414, offers a conveniently situated and scenic camping experience. You can reach them at (307) 527-6921 or +1 307-527-6921 for inquiries, although as it is located along a major route to Yellowstone National Park, reservations might be advisable, potentially through a national park or forest service reservation system depending on its management.
Based on positive feedback from recent visitors, Wapiti Campground is described as "beautiful" and "really nice," making it an attractive option for those seeking a picturesque camping setting. The campground's location along the Shoshone River adds to its natural appeal, offering the potential for scenic views and the soothing sounds of flowing water. One reviewer specifically mentioned watching Bighorn sheep on the rocks across the Shoshone River, highlighting the opportunity for wildlife viewing directly from or near the campground. This connection to the natural environment is a significant draw for many campers.
The facilities at Wapiti Campground are noted to be clean and well-maintained. One reviewer was particularly impressed by the cleanliness of the "vaults" (pit toilets), stating they were the cleanest they had ever seen, a testament to the diligence of the camp host. Basic amenities include garbage disposal, fire rings at each site, and picnic tables, providing the essentials for a comfortable camping experience. Importantly, the campground offers an RV fresh water fill-up station near the information sign at the entrance, a valuable service for RV travelers.
A key feature of Wapiti Campground is the availability of both "dry camping" sites and sites with "power for an RV." According to one review, approximately half of the campground offers electric hookups for RVs, while the other half is designated for dry camping (no electrical, water, or sewer hookups at the site). This caters to a range of camping preferences and equipment, accommodating both tent campers and RV owners with varying needs. However, it's important to note that the campground does not have a dump station for RV black and gray water. Fortunately, a free dump station is available at the city of Cody on Lt Childers Street, near the Veterans Memorial, which is a convenient option for campers before or after their stay at Wapiti Campground.
The campsites at Wapiti Campground are described as "spaced nicely apart," offering a degree of privacy between camping groups, which enhances the feeling of being in nature and provides a more relaxed atmosphere. This spacing is appreciated by campers who value their peace and quiet while enjoying the outdoors.
The camp host at Wapiti Campground is mentioned as "friendly," contributing to a welcoming and positive atmosphere. A friendly host can provide valuable information about the area, assist with any issues, and generally enhance the overall camping experience.
The campground's location is also convenient, being "not far from Cody" and serving as a good stop when "leaving Yellowstone or heading to it." Its proximity to Cody allows for easy access to town amenities, services, and attractions, while its location along US-14 provides a direct route to the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. This makes it an excellent base for exploring both the natural wonders of Yellowstone and the local culture and history of Cody.
While the reviews do not explicitly mention other services such as showers or laundry facilities, these are not always available at campgrounds located near national parks or forests, often to maintain a more natural setting. Campers should come prepared for self-sufficiency in these areas or utilize facilities in nearby towns if needed.
No specific promotional information or discounts are mentioned in the provided reviews. Local users interested in Wapiti Campground should contact the provided phone numbers or, more likely, check the reservation system for campgrounds near Yellowstone's East Entrance (often managed by the National Park Service or a related entity) for details on availability, pricing, and reservation procedures. Given its desirable location and positive reviews, especially during peak season, advance booking is highly recommended to secure a campsite.
In conclusion, Wapiti Campground near Cody, Wyoming, offers a beautiful and well-maintained camping experience in a scenic location along the Shoshone River. Its proximity to Yellowstone's East Entrance and the town of Cody makes it a convenient choice for exploring the region's attractions. The availability of both dry camping and electric hookups caters to a variety of camping needs, and the friendly camp host ensures a welcoming stay. While lacking a dump station on-site, a free option is available nearby in Cody. The potential for wildlife sightings, such as Bighorn sheep, adds to the natural charm of this campground. For local users seeking "camping near me" with a blend of natural beauty, essential amenities, and a convenient location, Wapiti Campground is a highly recommended option. Be sure to check for availability and make reservations in advance to enjoy this gem near Yellowstone.

RV fresh water fill up by info sign at entrance. Pit toilet, garbage. Beautiful campground, camp host was friendly. Spaced nicely apart. Fire ring, picnic table, some sites have electric. No dump available. Dump at city of Cody free dump station on Lt Childers street, by Veterans Memorial. We watched Bighorn sheep on the rocks across Shoshone River. Not far from Cody. Had a great time there. Can’t wait to come back!!
Jun 29, 2024 · Lucinda JolleyLeaving Yellowstone or heading to it this is a really nice campground. The host from Nebraska has the cleanest vaults for use that I've ever seen! Half the campground is dry camping and the other half has power for an RV.
Oct 01, 2024 · Over Yonder LanderUsfs website says closed, but this campground is definitely open. A loop with electric sites, and a loop without. There's a nice bridge and trail beyond the river. There is a fishing day use/parking area as well.
May 28, 2024 · Kim CCamp host Jodi was nicr and was very helpful! We just traveled down from Glacier! Campground was about 25 miles from the entrance to Yellowstone, so a bit far, but they had water and vault toilets. 27 miles from Cody, WY where we could get cell service and wifi.Sites were a nice size and had some First come first served sites available.
