Willow Lake Campground Introduce
For local users in Ohio searching for "camping near me," Willow Lake Campground, located at 3935 N Broadway, Geneva, OH 44041, presents itself as an option. However, recent customer reviews highlight some unique aspects and potential drawbacks that should be carefully considered before planning a stay. While the campground appears to primarily cater to RVs, they have made exceptions for tent campers in certain circumstances. Understanding the environment, services, features, and pricing, particularly the unusual shower policy, is crucial for local users to determine if Willow Lake Campground meets their needs.
The environment of Willow Lake Campground is somewhat implied in the reviews, though not explicitly detailed. The fact that it accommodated cyclists who found the nearby State Park full suggests it is accessible and potentially located in an area suitable for cycling. One positive aspect mentioned is the presence of "trails off road," indicating opportunities for hiking or possibly mountain biking within or near the campground. However, a significant environmental factor noted by a visitor was that "after the rain we had this weekend it was super muddy." This suggests that the terrain can become quite challenging and messy during wet conditions, which is an important consideration for those planning outdoor activities.
The services and amenities at Willow Lake Campground, based on the limited reviews, present a mixed picture. While some staff interactions were positive, others raised concerns. Key services and features mentioned include:
- RV Campsites: The primary focus of Willow Lake Campground appears to be accommodating RVs, as one review explicitly stated, "This campground was RV only." This suggests that the infrastructure and layout are primarily designed for recreational vehicles, with potentially appropriate hookups and site sizes.
- Tent Camping (Limited): While primarily for RVs, the campground made an exception for two cyclists on a tandem, indicating they might accommodate tent campers in certain situations, possibly when other campgrounds are full. However, this might come at a premium price.
- Camp Store and Host: One reviewer had a positive experience with the "camp host working the store," who provided information about local off-road trails and offered to guide them. This suggests the presence of a store for basic supplies and a helpful staff member.
- Off-Road Trails: The campground offers or has access to "trails off road," which were explored by a visitor who enjoyed them. This could be a significant feature for those interested in hiking, mountain biking, or other off-road activities.
- Security: A "security guard" is mentioned in one review, indicating some level of on-site security presence. However, the interaction reported was negative, focusing on a complaint about showering after using muddy trails.
- Showers with Fee: A highly unusual service highlighted in a review is the requirement to "pay to shower there" using a "quarter machine." This is a significant departure from the common practice of including shower access in the camping fee at most campgrounds. The reviewer also reported issues with the quarter machine malfunctioning and the limited shower time (3 minutes), leading to a negative interaction with security.
- Cleaning Supplies (Not Provided): The reviewer noted that they had to use their "OWN cleaning supplies" to clean the shower stalls after being unable to do so adequately within the paid shower time.
The limited information makes it difficult to ascertain other standard campground services such as restroom facilities (beyond showers), water hookups, electrical hookups, fire pits, picnic tables, laundry facilities, or recreational areas beyond the off-road trails. Local users should inquire specifically about these amenities when contacting the campground.
The features of Willow Lake Campground are somewhat distinctive due to the issues raised in the reviews. The primary feature seems to be its accommodation for RVs. The presence of off-road trails could be a significant draw for outdoor enthusiasts. However, the unusual and inconvenient policy of charging for showers via a malfunctioning quarter machine, coupled with the negative interaction with security regarding post-activity hygiene, stands out as a major deterrent. The high cost reported by the tent campers ($85 for one night) also suggests that tent camping might not be their preferred or competitively priced offering. The helpfulness of the camp host working in the store is a positive feature, indicating that some staff members are knowledgeable and willing to assist campers.
Promotional information for Willow Lake Campground is not provided in the reviews. The focus is on personal experiences and the specific policies encountered. Local users interested in potential discounts for RV stays, group rates, or seasonal offers should contact the campground directly at (440) 466-0150 or mobile phone at +1 440-466-0150. Given the pricing experience of the tent campers, it would be particularly important for tent campers to inquire about rates and any potential discrepancies compared to RV sites. Asking about the shower policy and any alternatives or clarifications would also be advisable.
In conclusion, Willow Lake Campground in Geneva, Ohio, appears to be primarily geared towards RV camping. While it offers access to off-road trails and has at least one helpful staff member, significant concerns have been raised regarding the high cost for tent campers, the unusual and problematic pay-per-use shower system, and negative interactions with security. The muddy conditions after rain are also an environmental factor to consider. Local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully weigh these points. RV campers might find the facilities more aligned with their needs, but even they should inquire about the shower policy and other standard amenities. Tent campers should be particularly cautious about the potential cost and the lack of included shower facilities. It is highly recommended that anyone considering Willow Lake Campground contact them directly to get clarification on pricing, amenities, and policies to ensure it meets their expectations for a camping experience.

Willow Lake Campground Reviews
We ended up here because the State park was full and would not make room for 2 cyclists on a tandem. This after 75 miles on the road. This campground was RV only , but they made an exception for us. It cost over 85$ wow!! For a tent camp. We we're at there mercy due to no time to cycle elsewhere. Guess if you are RV people it might be ok.
Jan 06, 2025 · Andrew FrohreichThe camp host working the store was great, told us about the trails off road and said if we needed her to show us she would. We did find all them. After the rain we had this weekend it was super muddy. The security guard came and complained that we showered after being all muddy from riding the off road trails. My biggest complaint is having to pay to shower there. The quarter machine in the shower I was using wasn’t working properly and couldn’t clean the shower after ridding in the woods and got a complaint after running out of time to shower (3 minutes) because I didn’t have enough quarter to clean theShower too. After I came back and got MY cleaning supplies and went back to clean the shower stalls, I told “security” and he said he was still gonna file a report but noted that we cleaned it. Was super nice about it’, brought our cleaning supplies back as I was cleaning the second stall and someone got in the first one with my stuff still in it so I couldn’t get it, but no reason to have to pay for a shower. Never paid for a shower in the other 12+ campgrounds I stayed in.
Aug 04, 2024 · Tyler BobinGreat campground. However, there wasn’t a sign or info out about the ponds having leeches, including the swimming pond. My puppy went swimming into swimming pond as told, and he got an abscess about 2 weeks later. Found out the culture from his abscess was from exposure to a pond that had low level living bacterium. We have only been to this pond and no where else. So I don’t recommend swimming in their pond or having pets swim in it either. Definitely need to ask or check for signs for the ponds. Otherwise, a great campground, quiet and very friendly.
Jul 26, 2024 · Julie GloverAround 60 pull thru spots, premium sites have cement pads (row G) and cost $20 more than the gravel chipped asphalt sites. Full hook ups, quiet family type place. Fishing pond. Around 120 seasonal sites with a waiting list. Clean showers and bathrooms. Entrance gate with a code. Security on weekends and holidays. Open May 1st to October 1st. Great place to watch the semi truck parade from, Thunder On The Strip, and quick access to Geneva State Park and boat launch and easy access to Geneva On The Lake.
Apr 30, 2025 · Al PaolinoReally nice place. Big, flat RV sites. Everyone was friendly and the place was quiet. Very well maintained. Not hard to get to, one railroad track was kind of steep. W got our 44’ toy hauler in without any problems. Would have loved to stay longer.
