Willow Reservoir Campsite 27 Introduce
For local users in Wisconsin searching for "camping near me" and specifically looking at options around Hazelhurst, Willow Reservoir Campsite 27 presents a camping opportunity with certain distinct characteristics, as gleaned from limited online feedback. Located in Hazelhurst, WI 54531, USA, this specific campsite within the Willow Reservoir area offers a blend of natural features that may appeal to some campers while presenting considerations for others.
Based on the available reviews, Willow Reservoir Campsite 27 is situated "a ways up a hill from the water." This elevation offers a particular perspective and might provide a degree of separation from the immediate lakefront. While not directly on the water, the campsite benefits from being near a "nice beach," suggesting that access to swimming, sunbathing, and other lakeside activities is available, albeit requiring a short walk down a hill. The quality of the beach is noted positively, which is a significant draw for many camping enthusiasts, especially families and those who enjoy water-based recreation.
One of the appealing features of Campsite 27 itself is that it is described as "nice and shady." Shade is a highly desirable attribute for a campsite, particularly during the warmer months, as it provides relief from the sun and helps to keep the camping area cooler and more comfortable. The presence of shade can also enhance the overall enjoyment of the outdoor experience, making it more pleasant to relax at the campsite during the day.
Another advantage mentioned for Campsite 27 is that there are "lots of wood around." The availability of natural firewood in the vicinity of a campsite is a significant convenience for campers who plan to have campfires for cooking, warmth, or ambiance. It reduces the need to transport firewood and allows for a more traditional camping experience utilizing resources found in the area (though campers should always adhere to local regulations regarding firewood collection and use).
In contrast, the reviewer who provided details about Campsite 27 also mentioned moving to another site, G6, which was close to Campsite 27 but "right on water." This comparison highlights a trade-off between the two locations. While G6 offered the advantage of waterfront access, it reportedly had "no wood around" and "a lot of sap." The lack of readily available firewood at a waterfront site could be a drawback for some, and the presence of sap might make the area sticky or less comfortable for setting up equipment. However, the reviewer noted that "The view was worth the move!" indicating that the direct waterfront location offered a significant visual appeal, especially with the "beautiful sunrise" captured in the provided pictures from Campsite 27.
The reviewer's experience suggests that different campsites within the Willow Reservoir area offer distinct advantages and disadvantages. Campsite 27 provides shade and nearby firewood but is located uphill from the water. Waterfront sites like G6 offer direct lake access and potentially better views but might lack shade and readily available firewood, and could have issues like excessive sap.
The second review poses a direct question about the accessibility of Site 27: "Can you get there by truck? Or is it a paddle in site?" This question is crucial for potential campers as it determines how they will be able to transport their gear to the campsite. The fact that this question is being asked online suggests that the accessibility of Campsite 27 might not be immediately clear or that there might be different access methods depending on the type of equipment or the specific location of the parking area relative to the site.
Based on the first review, which mentions arriving at Campsite 27 and then moving to another site nearby (implying vehicular access to the general area), it is likely that Campsite 27 is accessible by truck or at least via a parking area from which gear can be carried to the site. If it were exclusively a paddle-in site, the logistics of arriving with gear would be significantly different and would likely be mentioned more explicitly. However, the exact proximity of a parking area to Campsite 27 and whether gear needs to be carried a significant distance are not specified. The question about truck access suggests that some campers might be concerned about the terrain or the direct accessibility for vehicles.
To answer the question about access definitively, local users interested in Willow Reservoir Campsite 27 would need to consult official sources such as the managing authority for the Willow Reservoir area (e.g., the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources or the local county parks department). Information regarding campsite accessibility, parking, and any restrictions on vehicle use near the campsites would typically be available through their websites, maps, or by contacting them directly.
Given the limited information, we can summarize the potential environment and features of Willow Reservoir Campsite 27 for local users searching for "camping near me":
- Location: Situated uphill from Willow Reservoir near Hazelhurst, WI.
- Environment: Offers a nice and shady camping area. The surrounding environment likely includes the natural landscapes typical of northern Wisconsin, potentially with forest cover and proximity to the lake.
- Water Access: Provides access to a nice beach on Willow Reservoir, though it requires walking down a hill from the campsite.
- Firewood: Reportedly has "lots of wood around," suggesting potential for collecting firewood nearby (subject to regulations).
- Accessibility: Likely accessible via a parking area, but the direct accessibility by truck and the distance for carrying gear are unclear and require further investigation. It is probably not exclusively a paddle-in site given the context of the reviews.
- Comparison to Waterfront Sites: Offers shade and potential firewood availability, which might be lacking in some waterfront sites in the same area, but is not directly on the water.
- Potential Views: While not directly stated for Site 27 itself, the proximity to a waterfront site with "beautiful sunrise" views suggests that Site 27 might also offer pleasant, albeit perhaps less direct, views of the lake, especially given its elevated position.
As there is no promotional information available in the provided text, local users are encouraged to seek official information from the managing authority regarding Willow Reservoir Campsite 27. This would include details on reservations, fees, specific amenities available at the site (e.g., picnic table, fire ring), regulations regarding firewood, water and restroom facilities in the area, and, most importantly, the specifics of accessing the campsite with vehicles and transporting gear. Understanding these details will help potential campers determine if Campsite 27 meets their needs and expectations for a "camping near me" experience in the Hazelhurst, Wisconsin area.
In conclusion, Willow Reservoir Campsite 27 offers a shady camping spot with access to a nice beach and potential for nearby firewood. Its location uphill from the water provides a different camping experience compared to waterfront sites in the same area. The crucial question regarding direct truck access remains unanswered in the provided reviews, highlighting the need for prospective campers to consult official sources for detailed information on accessibility and other relevant aspects of this campsite.

This site is a ways up a hill from the water. Nice beach though and the site is nice and shady. Lots of wood around. We moved to G6 which is close to this site & was right on water, however no wood around & a lot of sap. The view was worth the move! Here's pics from 27...foggy morning in some, beautiful sunrise!
