Winchester Parks & Recreation Campground Introduce
For local residents and travelers exploring "camping near me" options in the Winchester, Tennessee area, Winchester Parks & Recreation Campground, situated at 1850 Phillip Fulmer Pkwy, Winchester, TN 37398, USA, offers a location with the potential for a pleasant outdoor experience due to its proximity to the lake and surrounding scenery. You can contact them at (931) 962-4204 or their mobile number +1 931-962-4204 for inquiries. However, recent feedback from actual customers highlights significant maintenance and cleanliness issues that potential visitors should be aware of when considering this campground for their stay.
Winchester Parks & Recreation Campground's primary positive attribute, based on customer reviews, appears to be its location, offering a "view of the lake and surroundings." This suggests that the campground benefits from a potentially scenic setting near Tims Ford Lake, a well-known recreational area in the region. The allure of lakeside camping often includes opportunities for fishing, boating, and enjoying waterfront views, which could be a draw for those seeking a nature-oriented "camping near me" experience.
However, the positive aspects of the location are significantly overshadowed by concerns raised in recent customer reviews regarding the campground's maintenance and cleanliness. These issues are serious and should be carefully considered by anyone planning a visit.
The Environment: Lakeside Views Contrasted with Maintenance Concerns
The primary environmental advantage of Winchester Parks & Recreation Campground seems to be its proximity to the lake, offering potentially attractive views. Tims Ford Lake is a large reservoir known for its beauty and recreational opportunities, so a campground with lake views could be appealing to those wanting to enjoy the waterfront. The "surroundings" are also mentioned positively, suggesting that the area has natural scenic value.
However, this positive aspect is countered by reports of poor maintenance within the campground itself. One reviewer noted that "Our site had trash on it when we got there with so many ants feasting." This indicates a lack of attention to site cleanliness before new campers arrive, which can detract significantly from the camping experience. The presence of trash and pests like ants can make a campsite unpleasant and unhygienic.
Another environmental concern raised is that "Sites are not level so it took a minute to get set up." Uneven campsites can create significant challenges for RV and trailer owners in terms of leveling their rigs, which is essential for the proper functioning of appliances and overall comfort. Even tent campers may find unlevel ground uncomfortable for sleeping.
Furthermore, the presence of what "look like semi permanent" neighbors with "junk all over the place" suggests a lack of enforcement of site tidiness and potentially a cluttered or unsightly environment within the campground. This can negatively impact the overall aesthetic appeal and the sense of being in a well-maintained recreational area.
Services and Amenities: Severely Criticized Bathroom Facilities
The most significant and concerning issue raised in the customer reviews pertains to the campground's bathroom facilities. One reviewer described them as "absolutely disgusting and horrible!" and provided a list of specific problems:
- No running water in the sink: This is a fundamental hygiene issue, making it impossible for users to wash their hands properly after using the restroom.
- Stall doors that don't close: This lack of privacy is a major discomfort and a significant flaw in the facilities.
- No ventilation whatsoever in the bathroom: Poor ventilation can lead to unpleasant odors, humidity, and a generally unsanitary environment.
- No toilet paper whatsoever: The absence of toilet paper renders the restrooms unusable and indicates a severe lack of basic maintenance.
The reviewer's concluding question, "is anybody doing anything," strongly implies a lack of upkeep and attention to these essential facilities. These issues paint a picture of severely neglected and potentially unusable bathrooms, which would be a major deterrent for any camper.
Given the strong negative feedback about the bathroom facilities, it is difficult to ascertain the quality or availability of other potential services and amenities. If basic hygiene facilities are in such disrepair, it raises concerns about the overall level of maintenance and care throughout the campground. Potential visitors should likely inquire specifically about the status and condition of all amenities before making a reservation.
Features and Potential: Overwhelmed by Maintenance Issues
The primary feature that might attract visitors to Winchester Parks & Recreation Campground is its location offering lake views and access to the surrounding natural beauty. The potential for enjoying Tims Ford Lake, whether for fishing, boating, or simply scenic enjoyment, could be a significant draw if the campground itself were well-maintained.
However, the current state of disrepair, particularly the condition of the bathroom facilities and the cleanliness of the campsites, severely detracts from any potential positive features. The unlevel sites also pose a practical challenge for campers. The presence of semi-permanent residents with accumulated junk could also impact the overall ambiance and the feeling of being in a recreational campground.
The first reviewer's statement that "This campground has potential but is not well maintained" encapsulates the situation. The underlying infrastructure and location might offer a good camping experience if properly cared for, but the current lack of maintenance prevents this potential from being realized.
Promotional Information and Why Caution is Advised for Winchester Parks & Recreation Campground
While Winchester Parks & Recreation Campground may offer a location with lake views, local users searching for "camping near me" should be aware of the significant maintenance and cleanliness issues reported by recent visitors. The "absolutely disgusting and horrible" bathroom facilities, with no running water, non-closing stall doors, no ventilation, and no toilet paper, are a major concern. The unlevel campsites and the presence of trash on arrival also indicate a lack of proper upkeep.
The presence of what appear to be semi-permanent residents with cluttered sites could also detract from the overall camping experience. While the view of the lake and surroundings is mentioned as a positive, this may not outweigh the significant drawbacks related to the campground's maintenance and cleanliness.
Given the strong negative feedback regarding essential facilities and site conditions, local users seeking "camping near me" in Winchester, TN, should exercise caution when considering Winchester Parks & Recreation Campground. It would be prudent to inquire directly with the management about the current status of the bathroom facilities and the overall maintenance of the campground before making a reservation. It might also be wise to consider alternative campgrounds in the area that have received more positive recent reviews regarding cleanliness and upkeep. While the location near Tims Ford Lake has potential, the current reported conditions suggest that this campground may not offer a pleasant or comfortable "camping near me" experience at this time.

Jun 16, 2024 · Douglas BowmanThis campground has potential but is not well maintained. Our site had trash on it when we got there with so many ants feasting. Sites are not level so it took a minute to get set up. Neighbors on both sides look like semi permanent and had junk all over the place. The good part is the view of the lake and surroundings.
Jun 17, 2022 · Becca BettsI'm so disappointed in our lil camp ground.1 the site I got wasn't big enough for our travel trailer. 2 site should have been for a tent. We booked for a week and I'm on day 2 and ready to go home. No place for kids to play the lake access is taken up by the spot next to the dock. Can't go sit on the swing they have for the public due to that spot claiming every inch of the corner. Bath house is gross I'd rather not. The exit looks as bad as old Cowan rd. It is sad when a 7yr old says nanny never again😭💔🖖🤔 sad part is this was a staycation.
Jul 10, 2022 · Linda DavisBathrooms were filthy and unusable, trash was all over the campsite. "Firepit" was unusable due to the amount of garbage left in it, plastic bottles, beer cans, etc. Open sewer caps, overflowing dumpster. Its obvious that it is not being cleaned and monitored yet the price was higher than other places. Booked for 2 nights, left after one. Couldn't get out fast enough.
Jun 28, 2023 · Lynne GirardWe also enjoy getting to watch softball here. The concession stand is amazing!!! It is right by the water. It's a good place for everyone. I just wish the bathrooms were better.
