YMCA Camp Collins Introduce
For local users in the Gresham, Oregon area seeking "camping near me" with the added comfort of a camping cabin, YMCA Camp Collins, located at 3001 SE Oxbow Pkwy, Gresham, OR 97080, USA, and reachable at (503) 663-5813 or +1 503-663-5813, offers cabin rentals as part of its facilities. YMCA camps often provide a range of accommodation options, and camping cabins can be an appealing choice for those who desire a step up from tent camping while still enjoying the outdoor environment.
Based on the limited customer reviews available, the perception of YMCA Camp Collins is somewhat mixed, particularly when considering it as a destination for various user groups, including those looking for camping cabins or sending children to camp programs. One reviewer who engaged in volunteer service work at the camp described it as "one of the cleanest and well payed out camps I have ever seen," and praised the staff as "all excellent." This positive feedback suggests that the physical environment of the camp is well-maintained and that at least some interactions with staff members are positive and helpful.
However, another, more concerning review presents a starkly different perspective, specifically regarding the safety and supervision of children attending summer camp programs, which may be relevant if the camping cabins are also utilized by families or groups with children. This reviewer recounts a distressing experience where their son was allegedly bullied throughout a week-long stay, culminating in a serious incident during an arts and crafts activity where another child threw paint pigment powder into his nose. This incident reportedly led to difficulty breathing, an emergency room visit, and a diagnosis of pneumonia, which the reviewer suspects was caused by the powder. Critically, the reviewer states that they were not contacted by the camp staff regarding the bullying incidents. Furthermore, attempts to obtain a partial refund due to their son's negative experience and the resulting medical bills were allegedly ignored, with no returned calls or emails. This review strongly advises sending children to the camp "at your own risk," raising significant concerns about camper safety protocols and communication with parents.
Considering the platform category of "camping near me," local users interested in renting a camping cabin at YMCA Camp Collins should be aware of both the positive feedback regarding cleanliness and staff helpfulness during volunteer work, and the serious allegations of inadequate supervision and poor communication related to child safety during camp programs. While the latter review pertains to a specific camp program, it may reflect broader issues within the camp's operational procedures or staff training that could potentially impact other users, including those renting cabins.
The environment of YMCA Camp Collins, based on its location in Gresham, Oregon, is likely to be situated within the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Gresham is near the Columbia River Gorge and surrounded by forests and green spaces. YMCA camps often take advantage of such settings to offer outdoor activities and a connection with nature. The "Oxbow Pkwy" in the address might suggest proximity to a bend in a river or a similar natural feature. While the reviews do not explicitly describe the cabin surroundings, potential renters might expect a setting with trees, fresh air, and the general ambiance of a camp environment.
Details regarding the specific services and features of the camping cabins themselves are not provided in the reviews. Typically, camping cabins offer basic shelter with beds or bunks and often include electricity. They may or may not have additional amenities like private restrooms, kitchenettes, or heating/cooling. Local users interested in renting a cabin should inquire directly with YMCA Camp Collins about the specific features of their cabins, including capacity, included amenities, and any items they need to bring themselves (e.g., bedding, cooking supplies).
The fact that the camp hosts volunteer service work suggests that it may have facilities and infrastructure to support groups and potentially offer organized activities or programs. If the camping cabins are part of this infrastructure, they might be suitable for group rentals as well as individual families. Inquiring about group rates or the camp's capacity for accommodating larger parties could be relevant for local organizations or groups seeking a nearby retreat.
Given the serious nature of the negative review concerning child safety and the alleged lack of communication and resolution, local users considering YMCA Camp Collins for any purpose, including renting a camping cabin, should exercise caution and seek further information. It would be prudent to contact the camp management directly to inquire about their safety protocols, staff training, and procedures for handling incidents or concerns. Asking specific questions based on the issues raised in the negative review could provide valuable insight into the camp's current practices.

YMCA Camp Collins Reviews
One of the cleanest and well payed out camps I have ever seen. We did volunteer service work here and the staff were all excellent!
Apr 30, 2025 · Lance PufferMy son went to Camp Collins for the last 2 years and will not be returning. This summer he was bullied for the whole week and this kid threw paint pigment powder up my sons nose during arts and crafts. This led to difficulty breathing and an ER visit when my son got home. He had pnuemonia most likely caused by the powder. Nobody called me to tell me this bullying was going on! I requested a partial refund due to my sons miserable time and medical bills, but nobody would return my calls or emails. Send your child at your own risk!!
Oct 21, 2024 · Somer F.For 2 years in a row YMCA Camp Collins has infected my kid with Covid. Last year I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, even though my daughter told me the reason they didn't test her is because they ran out of tests 😳 This year my 11yo was obviously sick when I picked him up. He told me he was discouraged by his counselor from going to the nurse 2 days in a row. Then they gave him a "sprout" award for overcoming the challenge of being sick at camp! Every one of his friends (4 kids total) also returned from camp with Covid.Obviously I have developed *some* risk tolerance around Covid, but the fact they are not isolating or testing symptomatic kids (or even giving them some Tylenol) shows a total lack of care for families and the community 👎👎
Aug 14, 2024 · Michelle DuBarryI went to Camp Collins on a field trip with my science class, for 5 nights and 6 days. It was such an amazing experience that I'll never forget and always look back on, with such positive memories :) The cabins that we stayed in were very cute and sort of looked like hobbit holes! (we even had a bathroom build into the cabin) The food was surprisingly good, and instead of all of us individually lining up to get food with a tray, there were student helpers that would get bowels of the food and bring them over to the table we were sitting at. Then as a table we would pass the bowels of food around to one another. Most of the staff were really nice/helpful! Once you get assigned a cabin, you also get assigned a student leader, who basically chaperones your cabin. (the student leaders are highschool students) I got one of the best student leaders and she was SO cool!
May 21, 2023 · zophia !!BULLYING AND ASSAULT AT CAMP1 star for activities and foodEdit- after a review by the YMCA director in response to my complaint and this review below, they found that "no paperwork existed for this incident" which is very strange. Is this really who you'd trust your child to? And it is pretty expensive as far as camps go...My 10 year-old son attended this camp and, on the way home, told us about his week. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to hear that he was repeatedly bullied by his cabin mates but also his counselor, "Nebula", who seemed to have it out for him. She refused to sign his memento on the last day, told him he couldn't participate in the talent show, berated him at mealtimes, and found fault in everything he did. My kid isn't perfect, but he's friendly, smart, empathetic, and makes friends easily. To make matters worse , he was also physically assaulted by another camper, punched in the face, and bitten in the leg. Another camper intervened and also got punched (This has now been verified by 3 campers!). The kid who assaulted them both didn't get sent home and no one contacted us to let us know of this but eventually, the counselor did intervene, apparently, so there is a record of this at the camp. I'm so frustrated that this was his first camp experience and immediately contacted the camp director, who is addressing this, but I feel that others should be warned. My son says the camp activities were great, but the people were just awful. This is a shocking review from a super positive child, and I feel bad that he spent a week in this toxic environment. If you are thinking you might want to send your child to YMCA Camp Collins, I'd seriously reconsider.
