Cleveland County Fairgrounds RV Park Introduce
Looking for "RV parks near me" in Norman, Oklahoma, that offer a convenient and accessible location? The Cleveland County Fairgrounds RV Park, situated at 615 E Robinson St, provides a straightforward option for RV travelers seeking a short-term stay within the city limits. While historically serving as an overflow or off-season use of the fairground's parking lot, this RV park has recently undergone upgrades to enhance the comfort and convenience of its guests.
It's important to note that some online reviews and photos may primarily reflect the annual Cleveland County Fair, a significant event held at this venue in the fall. These descriptions often highlight the fair itself rather than the RV park facilities. Therefore, our introduction will focus specifically on the RV park as it operates throughout the majority of the year.
Recent developments at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds RV Park include the creation of approximately 20 actual concrete RV slots. This upgrade from the previous gravel slots offers a significant advantage in terms of cleanliness and ease of setup. These new concrete pads are equipped with individual 50 Amp electrical connections, as well as water and sewer hookups, providing essential utilities for a comfortable stay. The area around these new slots is also nicely lit, enhancing safety and visibility during the evening hours.
One of the primary benefits of choosing the Cleveland County Fairgrounds RV Park is its exceptional convenience to most points of interest within Norman. Its central location makes it an ideal base for exploring the city's attractions, restaurants, and shopping areas. According to a local reviewer, it stands out as "the only RV facility in town other than Walmart and Sam's," highlighting its unique position within Norman's limited RV park options. While alternative RV parks exist, they are typically located further outside the city center along the highway.
It's crucial for prospective guests to understand the scheduling policy at Cleveland County Fairgrounds RV Park. The park operates on a first-come, first-served basis and does not accept reservations. Furthermore, there seems to be a reluctance to provide information about current slot availability over the phone. As one reviewer noted, "They do not accept reservations and even seem reluctant to let you know if slots are available. Just show up and take your chances." Therefore, it is advisable to plan your arrival accordingly and be prepared to check for available spaces upon arrival.
While the upgraded concrete slots offer essential amenities, it's important to be aware of some limitations compared to more developed RV parks. The Cleveland County Fairgrounds RV Park currently does not offer amenities such as picnic tables at each site, showers, bathrooms, a pool, laundry facilities, or a workout room. When these shortcomings were pointed out by a reviewer, they were informed about a state park located approximately 17 miles away as an alternative for such amenities. However, the reviewer did commend the office staff, stating, "But I have found the people in the office to be quite nice."
For RV travelers who are unable to secure one of the developed concrete slots, there is an option to utilize the empty parking lot areas. These spaces offer power and water hookups, but it's important to note that sewage hookups are not available in the undeveloped parking lot. This option may be suitable for short overnight stays where full hookups are not essential.
Connectivity is another factor to consider. According to a recent review, "The Wifi is terribly weak and not able to be used from most slots." Therefore, guests should not rely heavily on the park's Wi-Fi for internet access during their stay.
An interesting observation regarding the new concrete slots is the parking configuration. The car or truck parking area is situated on the backside of the RV slot. While described as "odd," the reviewer noted that it is "not hard to live with." This is a minor layout detail that guests should be aware of upon arrival.
Access to the RV park is available through two entrances. The entrance on Robinson Street has a traffic light but can be quite tight, potentially posing a challenge for larger rigs, especially when busy. Additionally, the Robinson Gate has been subject to construction and may sometimes be closed. The alternative entrance on Porter Avenue is wider and typically less congested, but it features a slight hill that could cause pavement scraping for RVs with low ground clearance. Guests should assess their rig and traffic conditions to determine the most suitable entrance.
Payment for your stay at Cleveland County Fairgrounds RV Park is handled at the Fairground office, located in the brick addition at the south end of the large metal exposition building. For late arrivals, there is a small kiosk near the Robinson Street gate that provides envelopes and a lock box for payment. It's important to note that the park is primarily intended for short stays, and long-term stays are discouraged and require prior authorization.
In summary, Cleveland County Fairgrounds RV Park offers a conveniently located option for short-term RV stays in Norman, Oklahoma. The recent addition of concrete slots with full hookups represents a significant improvement. While it may lack some of the amenities found in more developed RV resorts, its prime location and basic utilities make it a practical choice for travelers seeking easy access to Norman's attractions. Remember that reservations are not accepted, and availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. Cleveland County Fairgrounds RV Park Reviews
A very nice venue for the county. I went to the county fsir and was so very impressed by the wntire event snd the large turnoit. Will go there every year!
Sep 22, 2024 · Baljit SinghUpdated January 2023This so-called “park" was, for a long time, the perimeter of the empty parking lot of the Cleveland County Fairgrounds. Consequently many of these reviews and photos are taken of and written for the County Fair which occurs in the fall. The rest of the year offers various markets or eventsThe actual RV park has always been an off-season use of the empty parking lot. They have now upgraded some of the gravel slots and created about 20 actual concrete RV slots which will make it easier to keep your unit clean. These 20 new slabs are nicely lit and all seem to have individual 50 Amp connections, water, electric and sewer. The park is convenient to most things in Norman, and is the only RV facility in town other than Walmart and Sam's. There are alternative RV parks but they are further up or down the highway.Scheduling is first come first serve. They do not accept reservations and even seem reluctant to let you know if slots are available. Just show up and take your chances. When I pointed out that their prices seemed high in comparison to parks that also offer picnic tables, showers, bathrooms, a pool, laundry and even a workout room (the short list of shortcomings of this “park”) they informed me that there was a state park about 17 miles down the road that I could use. But I have found the people in the office to be quite nice.If you cannot find a developed spot for your RV check the empty parking lot. There are power and water hook-ups but no sewage. The Wifi is terribly weak and not able to be used from most slots. On the new, developed, slots you may notice that the car/truck park is on the back side of your RV. Odd but not hard to live with.Overall the 20 new slots make this a much more comfortable stay. There are two entrances. The one on Robinson has a light but is pretty tight. If it is busy you may find this one to be difficult. Also, they have been working on the Robinson Gate and it is sometimes closed. The entrance on Porter is wider and less used but it has a bit of a hill. You may scrape pavement if your rig is close to the ground.Payment for your stay can be made in the Fairground office which is in the brick addition at the South end of the large metal exposition building. There is also a small kiosk near the Robinson St gate that has envelopes and a lock box for late arrivals. The park is considered a short stay park and long stays are discouraged and require permission in advance.Again, many of the photos and evaluations here are for the annual County Fair and should not be part of this RV park description.
Dec 28, 2023 · Steve MorrisStayed for about a week (weekly rate) and was great. They are adding some new sites on the North side of property with concrete pads and full hookups! Ours was still on the gravel site.It is fairly quiet with some traffic noise but what d'ya expect being in town?!!"Holly" in the office is very polite, friendly and helpful with tons of info about the area!Hiking Trails near by.. Sutton Wilderness Trail Park.Mountain Biking, Hiking, Boating, and Fishing at the nearby Lake Thunderbird.Golf Course is near I-35 and Robinson St.There are several grocery stores, hardware stores very close by as well..Propane can be purchased at "OLG" Propane on 12th Ave NE & Main St about 1.5 miles away. And if need, the Hospital is just across the street!!Come on in and stay awhile and enjoy this wonderful place and town!
Mar 08, 2022 · Lawrence PasierbVery nice RV concrete pads with full hookups and street lights along the road. Well lit and each site has a place on the side for parking. The only drawback is that it's close to a hospital and fire department, so we heard sirens from first responders occasionally 24hrs a day. Other than that, it's very well kept and a great little place with convenience stores, restaurants, and shopping nearby.
Nov 11, 2024 · Fred ReichertSeptember 2024: We stayed in one of the new concrete sites. It was plenty big for our 35' motorhome. Decent water pressure and clean power. The sewer hookup is pretty far back in the site - two hose lengths (20') for our set up.This is first come, first serve. We got here about 2pm on a Tuesday and there were several sites available. At $35/night, it is a bit pricey considering the lack of amenities and the close spacing of the sites, but the location can't be beat.
