Golden Acres RV Park Introduce
Golden Acres RV Park, situated at 15150 Square Lake Trail N, Stillwater, MN 55082, presents itself as a serene retreat for RV enthusiasts and campers looking for a lakeside experience in Minnesota. For those searching "RV Parks Near Me" in the Stillwater area, Golden Acres RV Park offers both seasonal and nightly RV sites, aiming to provide a tranquil sanctuary just a short drive from the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
The primary draw of Golden Acres RV Park is its picturesque location on the shores of Square Lake. Square Lake is renowned as one of Minnesota's clearest lakes, offering excellent conditions for swimming and various water activities. The park is nestled within the natural beauty of the Saint Croix River Valley, an area characterized by its scenic landscapes, including the Saint Croix River itself and nearby historic towns like Marine on Saint Croix. The environment promises a blend of natural tranquility and accessibility to regional attractions.
Guests can expect to wake up to the sounds of nature, with the "gentle rustle of leaves and the soothing sounds of the lake," setting a peaceful tone for their stay. The park aims to provide a setting where visitors can unwind and enjoy the water, making it a suitable option for those seeking a peaceful escape with opportunities for outdoor activities.
Golden Acres RV Park accommodates both seasonal and nightly campers. The RV campsites are described as offering full hookups, including 30-amp and 50-amp electricity, water, and sewer connections. Some sites are designed to fit vehicles up to 40 feet long. While specific site sizes for all spots are not universally detailed, one review mentions a "nightly spot" that was "extremely small," indicating that site dimensions may vary and could be a consideration for larger RVs or those seeking more space.
A key feature of Golden Acres is its direct access to Square Lake. The park facilitates water activities through various rental options, including pontoon boats, paddleboards, and canoes. There is a beach area open to both campers and day visitors, although a separate entrance fee for day visitors applies. For those bringing their own boats, Golden Acres welcomes them with prior approval and may offer boat slips on a community dock for an additional fee, or storage on a trailer in a designated storage lot.
Other reported amenities include bathrooms, showers, and a general store. Some descriptions mention features like shuffleboard, hiking opportunities, a boat launch, and a playground, suggesting a range of recreational facilities available within the park or immediately adjacent to it. There is also mention of an "RV Glamping" option, where a newly renovated RV is available for rent on a double-wide lot overlooking a "Golden Pond" within the park, featuring a stone patio, deck, screened-in porch, and campfire area, indicating a broader range of accommodation options beyond just RV sites.
The park also welcomes well-behaved dogs, with a policy of up to two dogs per site, each with a maximum weight of 80 lbs. Dogs are required to be on a maximum 6-foot leash and supervised by their owners, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. Quiet hours are observed from 10 PM to 8 AM to ensure a peaceful environment for all guests.
Golden Acres RV Park is promoted as an ideal setting for a getaway, offering the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. Promotional materials highlight its location on Square Lake, inviting guests to "unwind and enjoy the water." The proximity to historic Marine on Saint Croix, the scenic Boomsite along the Saint Croix River, and the charming shops of downtown Stillwater are also emphasized, suggesting that the park serves as a convenient base for exploring the wider region. The park’s official website states that the 2025 season begins May 1st, and that seasonal campsites for 2024 were full, with a waitlist available for 2025, indicating high demand for long-term stays.
However, recent customer reviews reveal significant changes and concerns, particularly following a change in ownership. For those searching "RV Parks Near Me," it is essential to be aware of these reported changes:
Price Increases: Visitors have noted substantial price increases for amenities, with the per-person entrance fee for the beach reportedly rising from $3 to $10. This affects not only day visitors but also campers who may have guests.
Removal of Attractions: A key attraction, a raft in the water, has been removed, which some long-time visitors considered the "main attraction." Additionally, certain food items like cotton candy and milkshakes are no longer available, with ice cream available but sometimes refused to be scooped due to being "too hard." These changes suggest a reduction in some of the recreational and convenience offerings that previously enhanced the visitor experience.
Campsite Size: As mentioned, one recent review highlighted an "extremely small" nightly spot, where extending an awning was difficult due to proximity to another camper. This could be a concern for RVers who value space and privacy.
Dog Policy Enforcement and Incidents: While the official policy states dogs must be leashed, a review described an incident where a leashed puppy was attacked by an unleashed dog, and the employee at the office stated "there was nothing he could do because they didn't require dogs to be leashed." This contradicts the stated dog policy and raises concerns about safety and enforcement, which is a significant factor for pet owners searching for "RV Parks Near Me."
Overall Disappointment: Long-time patrons, some having visited for over 30 years, have expressed disappointment with the changes, indicating a decline in the overall experience compared to previous ownership.
These reviews suggest that while Golden Acres RV Park retains its beautiful lakeside location and offers full hookup sites and water activities, the changes under new ownership have led to concerns regarding pricing, amenities, site conditions, and policy enforcement. Prospective visitors should consider these points alongside the park's promotional information to form a comprehensive understanding of what to expect from their stay at Golden Acres RV Park.

Golden Acres RV Park Reviews
Beware it is under new ownership. It isn’t what it once was. They increased the prices from $3 per person to $10 per person, and they removed the raft in the water which was the main attraction. They got rid of the cotton candy and no longer have milk shakes. They have ice cream available by the scoop, but refused to scoop it because it was “too hard,” on a 90 degree summer day. Been going here for over 30 years, and the first time we’ve ever left disappointed.
Oct 06, 2024 · Kel HouferWe were at one of the only nightly spots. The campsite was extremely small. We couldn't extend the awning out because it would have hit the next camper. I walked my two dogs down to the beach and my 3 month old puppy was attacked by another dog not on a leash. We told the employee at the office and he said there was nothing he could do because they didn't require dogs to be leashed. I would have left if it wasn't for my kids wanting to swim at the beach. The lake and beach is the only reason I gave 2 stars.
Sep 02, 2024 · Katie ElmoreVery nice park.Great drive to get there.Swimming beach, picnic tables,Really good place to have family pinics or family reunion.Pricey parking, but they do offer more than other places.
Sep 08, 2024 · Marti PahlPark is under new ownership and management. NEW tables, and CLEAN beach. No fee for parking. 10$ admission fee per person. NEW paddleboard rentals, pontoon dock, pontoon rental, and the old "RV/boat grave yard" is gone! There is a beautiful seasonal RV park back there!! Everything that made this park iconic remains! LOTS of TLC was put into restoring this beloved place! Still family owned and operated too!
Jun 03, 2024 · Amber GaddyIt is with a heavy heart I write this review, but I write it in hopes that someone there takes the time to read these and decides to take much needed positive action. The lake itself is beautiful so the rating is getting 2 stars. I have been coming to this spot since I was a child and have religiously been bringing my own children here since they were babies, sending my oldest off to college on the west coast next week. Was excited to have a “last square lake family day” before she leaves, most of my family drove 35+ miles to come here, I come all the way from Hastings. It was heartbreaking disappointment. While the place has been in need of improvements for quite a few years, I understand the Covid impact, however during Covid I came multiple times a week and the place was packed. I still have realistic expectations of the economical impact and the nostalgic little gem this place was. There seems to be zero minimal maintenance at this point, the tables are all barely holding on, praying for some TLC if replacing isn’t an option at this point. The flies and bees were so horrendous you could barely eat, or even hold a conversation, I’m guessing someone cut spraying for them from the budget. The prices have gone up, which is fair, if you raise them to provide the same experience. To make matters worse the staff was rude and over charged a few people in my party. Unless I see improvements made I would not return, and would not recommend and I want to want to come back here.
