Shields RV Military Park Introduce
If you are searching for "RV parks near me" in the Gulfport, Mississippi area, Shields RV Military Park, located at 535 Parkside Ln, Gulfport, MS 39501, USA, offers a unique camping experience with the added benefit of being situated on a military base. This park caters to a diverse range of RV travelers, providing spacious campsites and access to various on-base facilities, making it a noteworthy option for those seeking convenience and specific amenities.
The environment at Shields RV Military Park is described as convenient and well-maintained. The campground features 103 campsites divided into two main areas. The front campground area, near the main gate, boasts a mostly flat and well-designed grid pattern with predominantly pull-through sites, making it particularly accessible for larger RVs. While there are some smaller back-in sites available, the overall layout appears to prioritize ease of access and spaciousness. One reviewer highlighted the generous grass yards between campsites, approximately 20 feet wide, offering more space than many other campgrounds with a similar layout. The presence of cement pads at each campsite ensures a level and stable parking surface for RVs.
The park's location offers the distinct advantage of "beach access," making it an appealing choice for those looking to enjoy the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Additionally, its proximity to Biloxi is noted as convenient, providing easy access to the attractions, dining, and entertainment options that Biloxi has to offer. While situated on a military base, the park appears to welcome civilian RVers, as indicated by the public reviews.
Shields RV Military Park offers a comprehensive range of services and amenities to ensure a comfortable stay:
- Full Hookups: Each campsite is equipped with full hookups, including 50 and 30 amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. This ensures that RVers have all the necessary utilities for a seamless camping experience.
- Level Cement Pads: As mentioned, the level cement pads at each site contribute to ease of setup and overall comfort.
- Picnic Table: A picnic table is provided at each campsite, offering a convenient space for outdoor dining and relaxation.
- Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi is available at the park, with one user reporting download speeds of 4.62 Mbps and upload speeds of 1.08 Mbps. While this might be suitable for basic internet use, those requiring higher bandwidth might appreciate the strong Verizon signal (24 Mbps up and down) or the availability of Starlink with significantly faster speeds (73 Mbps down and 7 Mbps up), although Starlink might require individual setup.
- Dump Station: The park has a readily accessible dump station for the convenient disposal of RV waste.
- Clean Bathrooms and Showers: Bathrooms and showers are located in both sections of the campground and are reported to be clean and conveniently accessible.
- Laundry Facilities: On-site laundry facilities are available, featuring three washers ($2 per load) and three dryers ($1 per load), along with a change machine, which is a valuable convenience for guests.
- Dog-Friendly: The park is dog-friendly, offering grassy areas around the perimeter for walking pets, complete with stocked pick-up stations. However, there are no designated off-leash areas.
- Minor Street Noise: While generally quiet, some minor street noise might be audible inside the RV.
Beyond the standard RV park amenities, the unique feature of being on a military base provides access to additional facilities:
- NEX and Commissary: While described as "small," the on-base Navy Exchange (NEX) and commissary are well-stocked and maintained, offering opportunities for shopping for groceries, essentials, and souvenirs. However, it's important to note that these facilities are located over 3 miles from the RV park.
- Golf Course: Guests have access to an on-base golf course, which is described as "not bad" but can be challenging due to wind conditions. Golf enthusiasts might find it a worthwhile option.
- Fishing: Fishing is reportedly "pretty good" on the sea wall and near the marina on base, offering recreational opportunities for anglers.
- Auto Hobby Workshop, Carwash, and Diesel: The Exchange on base also features an Auto Hobby Workshop, a carwash, and diesel fuel availability, which can be particularly useful for RV owners needing maintenance or fuel.
One highly recommended feature near the park is the "Philly cheese steak food truck," suggesting a local culinary highlight worth trying. Additionally, "Shaggy’s for seafood" is mentioned as an amazing nearby restaurant (only a couple of miles away) with incredible service and excellent food.
Regarding "promotional information," the review provides specific daily and weekly rates: $25 per day or $22 per day for a weekly stay. This transparent pricing information is valuable for budget planning. It's worth noting that these rates were mentioned in a review for campsite #38; it would be advisable to confirm if these rates are consistent across all site types or if there are variations based on factors like site size or location within the park. As Shields RV Military Park is associated with a military base, there might be specific eligibility requirements or potential discounts for active duty and retired military personnel; however, this is not explicitly stated in the provided information and would require direct inquiry with the park management.
In conclusion, Shields RV Military Park in Gulfport, Mississippi, offers a compelling combination of standard RV park amenities and unique access to military base facilities. Its spacious and level campsites with full hookups, proximity to the beach and Biloxi, clean facilities, and pet-friendly environment make it a strong contender for those seeking "RV parks near me" in the area. The added benefits of an on-base commissary, NEX, golf course, and fishing opportunities provide a distinctive camping experience. While the NEX and commissary are a few miles away, the convenience of having them available is a significant plus. The provided daily and weekly rates offer clear pricing information, and potential guests should inquire about any military discounts or other special offers. Overall, Shields RV Military Park appears to be a well-regarded and convenient option for RVers visiting the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Feb 03, 2024 · TodayIsOurAdventureStill here. Great place. Clean and quiet. 😊 we come every year. Many thanks to the staff for making this a wonderful place to bee.
Mar 30, 2025 · Stacey BolinFor those of you that like trees, front park is what I call parking lot camping. Sites were concrete & not tight at all, some active duty living here. Its also quite noisy. We took a drive to the back famcamp & if we come again, that's where we'd stay. It's quiet, surrounded by trees but sites are a bit shorter. They say nothing over 40 ft but there were big class A's & large 5th wheels in back, however you have to park your truck sideways. Small base & Commissary closed on Mondays except Monday before Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.
Jan 07, 2025 · Shelley LeeNot much in the way of amenities, but sites are level and good size. The gate has barriers so you have to weave through, but it is manageable..
