Antelope Annex Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the Boise National Forest? Antelope Annex Campground, located off Forest Road #609A in Ola, ID 83657, USA, offers an alternative camping experience in the same beautiful region as the popular Sagehen Reservoir area. Situated within the expansive Boise National Forest, Antelope Annex might be a viable option, especially if you've found it challenging to secure a spot at the often-crowded Sagehen campgrounds. To get the most accurate information about this campground, you can contact the Boise National Forest at (208) 373-4100.
The environment surrounding Antelope Annex Campground is within the Boise National Forest, characterized by its diverse and scenic landscapes. Being near the Sagehen area, campers can likely expect a setting with forests, potential access to water bodies (as one review mentions the lake and great fishing), and the natural beauty of Idaho's backcountry. One reviewer noted that Sagehen itself appeared to have a significant number of trees that looked "dead" due to caterpillar activity, which might also impact the environment around Antelope Annex. However, the same reviewer found Antelope Annex to be impressive, suggesting a potentially pleasant natural setting. If you're searching for "camping near me" that offers access to nature and perhaps a lake for fishing, Antelope Annex Campground could be a consideration, keeping in mind the potential presence of caterpillars.
Regarding services and features, as part of the Boise National Forest, Antelope Annex Campground likely offers basic amenities for a more rustic camping experience. These typically include designated campsites suitable for tents and possibly RVs (size limitations may apply, so it's best to inquire). You might expect picnic tables and fire rings at each site. Vault toilets and access to potable water are also common in national forest campgrounds. One review mentioned that the campground was great, and even when full, there was plenty of room on the lake, and the fishing was great. Another reviewer highlighted that if you have a larger group needing two campsites, this place is perfect, although smaller groups might find the sites very close together. To get specific details about the services and features of Antelope Annex Campground, such as the number and types of sites, RV hookup availability (if any), and other amenities, contacting the Boise National Forest at (208) 373-4100 is recommended.
A notable feature of Antelope Annex Campground, based on a customer review, is its suitability for larger groups needing multiple campsites that are close to each other. This could be a significant advantage for families or groups traveling together and looking for "camping near me" where they can easily stay connected. Additionally, the mention of a nearby lake with "great fishing" suggests that water-based recreational activities are a key draw of this location. However, it is crucial to heed the "Caterpillar warning from the website," as one reviewer had a very negative experience with a severe caterpillar infestation, leading to allergic reactions in children. This is a significant factor to consider when planning a trip to Antelope Annex, and it would be wise to inquire about the current status of any such issues when contacting the forest service. While Sagehen might be a preferred location for some, the reviewer was impressed with Antelope Annex, especially for group camping.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available online for Antelope Annex Campground. The best way to get the most current details about the campground, including availability, fees, and any advisories (such as the caterpillar issue), is to contact the Boise National Forest directly at (208) 373-4100. They can provide information relevant to your specific needs and help you plan your "camping near me" trip accordingly. It would be prudent to ask about the caterpillar situation and any other potential conditions to be aware of during your stay.
In summary, Antelope Annex Campground in the Boise National Forest near Ola, ID, offers a camping option that may be particularly suitable for larger groups and those interested in lake access and fishing. While one reviewer found it impressive, potential visitors should be aware of a reported severe caterpillar issue that caused allergic reactions. The environment is within the scenic Boise National Forest, likely offering natural beauty. For those searching for "camping near me" in this area, contacting the Boise National Forest at (208) 373-4100 is essential to get detailed information about the campground's services, features, and any current conditions, such as the caterpillar situation, to make an informed decision about your camping plans.

Antelope Annex Campground Reviews
Sagehen is our go to campground, but the amount of spaces that can be reserved far ounumbers those that cannot. This means its very difficult to get a spot up there unless you leave on a Thursday or very early Friday morning. We got a space in the Antelope Annex for the first time ever and I was honestly impressed. If you have a larger group and need two camp sites this place is perfect (of not then you will be really close to other campers, like you cant tell where one camp site ends and another begins) we have 8 in our family and then grandma and grandpa came so it was perfect! However, do not take the Caterpillar warning from the website lightly! It is AWFUL!!!! We had them falling from the trees onto us, into our food, and into our coolers. I was flicking 3 to 4 off of me every couple of seconds. My 2 year old wokw up with what looked like chicken pox welts all over his stomach and they slowly spread to all over his body. He was having an allergic reaction to the caterpillars 😕 Its been two weeks and these spots are still not fully gone, and they itch like mad! My 1 year old had a vomiting attack that ended once we got home which we believe was also a reaction to the caterpillars. Also, I have never seen sagehen look so dead. It appears as though 75% of the trees are "dead" however they are apparently not but instead this is what the caterpillars do to the trees. Some may not make it and will die but hopefully the forest will recover. Again, normally our favorite place but over crowding and these caterpillars have kimd of changed our perspective on the place.
