One reviewer who stayed for a single night during the week shared several valuable insights. They noted that reservations must be made more than 48 hours in advance. Fortunately, during their midweek stay, many spots were available, and they commended the host for being patient and helpful in assisting with the reservation process, especially given the extremely low cell signal in the area. This suggests that while connectivity might be challenging, the staff are accommodating. The reviewer mentioned that the drive to the campground was "aways to drive," implying it might be somewhat remote. They also cautioned that "the entrance may be difficult for some unexperienced haulers," which could be relevant for those with larger RVs or trailers. Despite these minor challenges, the overall experience was overwhelmingly positive, as they stated, "all in all, we are very happy we took a chance." They described the park as "very clean and peaceful" even with a number of other campers present, and concluded with a strong recommendation to return. They also advised running the water for a minute prior to filling due to a potential bit of dirt or rust, a practical tip for future visitors.
Another enthusiastic camper declared, "I love bakers run!" Their family has a tradition of visiting every summer, usually around their birthday in July, and they report that they are "never disappointed." This speaks to the consistent quality and appeal of the campground. They specifically praised the bathrooms for being "always clean" and highlighted the overall atmosphere as "so quiet it’s a very good place to get away from home." For this family, the campground is worth the "1hr & half drive there," indicating that its positive attributes outweigh the travel time.
The environment of Baker's Run Campground is consistently described as peaceful and clean. The fact that multiple reviewers emphasize the quiet atmosphere suggests it's an ideal location for those seeking respite from the noise of everyday life. The mention of running the water to clear potential sediment hints at a more natural, perhaps well-water system. The surrounding area, implied by the drive time mentioned, is likely scenic and worth the journey for those in the region.
In terms of services, Baker's Run Campground offers campsites that require reservations made more than 48 hours in advance. Baker's Run Campground Reviews
Stayed just one night during the week. Must reserve more than 48 hours prior but luckily many spots were available and the host was patient to assist in making the reservation since we had extremely low cell signal. It was aways to drive and the entrance may be difficult for some unexperienced haulers but, all in all, we are very happy we took a chance. Very clean and peaceful park even though many were camping. We would definitely return! Recommend running the water for a minute prior to filling due to a bit of dirt/rust.

Apr 24, 2025 · Courtney NicoleHidden Gem in the Middle of West Virginia! This place is awesome, and there's so much to do.First, getting here can be difficult. If you are coming from the west, your GPS may direct you down a dirt road that ends up being a dead end. To avoid this make sure you go through Sutton, there are plenty of actual signs directing you to the campground. We showed up without reservations because we saw on the website (Recreation.gov) that they had availability. However, if you want to make sure you have reservations, you can make it online, and it should save you some time when you get checked in. The check-in is at the campground entrance and is usually 'manned' during business hours. If you are paying on-site, they only accept credit cards. The campground is split between 'primitive' (what you would use if you just have a tent), electric/water, and full amenities options (all options are pet friendly). You can access the playground, bathrooms (with showers), boat dock, and basketball court, regardless of your choice. The bathrooms were cleaned daily and were better than expected. I will say the primitive areas had more availability than the camper areas, so if you bring a camper, I would make sure you get a reservation in advance. We stayed in the primitive sites, each with a table and a fire pit. We ended up staying in the 71-77 options because they were close to the water but had overhead shade, which was critical during the day. If you need firewood, you can grab some for $11 from a local store just up the road (they say they are there from 9 am-9 pm).Overall, its a great spot to get away. If I went again I would bring some kayaks and fishing poles.
Sep 08, 2022 · Kenny WelchAlways great time camping along the river. The sites have plenty of space for tents and each site has shade trees. Only down fall in my opinion is they need to cut the grass more often.
Mar 25, 2025 · Jeff SkidmoreI frequent this campground as my father own's the next campground over on Baker's Run. This is one of my favorite campgrounds to visit and have been coming here for 30 years. There is a dock right by the campground, a decent bath house and lots of things to do back into the nearby areas of Sutton and Flatwoods. I personally like to travel back out of the campground and swim in a spot just as you leave the area. This is also a good takeout for kayaking which I do frequently there as well. The first time I ever seen a bald eagle in my life was in this swimming hole on the Elk River. It was incredible. This was in August 2023 as well. So he is still living and hunting in that very spot. The whole area is incredible and if you get a chance to go out on the lake, there is some cool Native American petroglyphs as well.
