The presence of Big Rice Lake adds to the appeal, with the sounds of "loons on the lake in the evening" contributing to the serene atmosphere. The area is also noted for its biodiversity, with sightings of "rare and on the endangered species bumblebees" and "incredible, bright, and vibrant" wildflowers. The surrounding landscape likely includes typical northern Minnesota vegetation, such as forests and lakeside scenery, contributing to the overall sense of wilderness.

The easy access, with "great roads in and out," is a significant advantage for those with various types of camping vehicles, as one reviewer with a "larger truck camper" reported "no problem getting in and out." However, they did note "a big pothole on the camping loop," advising caution. This limited number of sites contributes to the less-trafficked feel, enhancing the sense of seclusion. The presence of a boat landing suggests access to Big Rice Lake for potential boating or fishing activities, further adding to the recreational opportunities.
One important aspect to note from the reviews is the presence of insects. One camper mentioned, "Yes the mosquitos and horsefly's were bad," but also offered practical advice: "Wear your hat net and long sleeves and your good to go with no need for bug spray." This indicates that while insects can be prevalent, especially during certain times of the year, they are manageable with the right preparation. Exactly what I expect from a really good dispersed camping location.Great roads in and outNice clean vaulted restroom down by the boat landing.Wonderful natural secluded outdoor experience. Enjoyed listening to the owls at night and the loons on the lake in the evening. We also spotted the rare and on the endangered species bumblebees. The wild flowers were incredible, bright, and vibrant.Yes the mosquitos and horsefly's were bad. Wear your hat net and long sleeves and your good to go with no need for bug spray. The peace and quiet was so enjoyable and relaxing. We camped there with our larger truck camper and had no problem getting in and out. There was a big pothole on the camping loop, we chose to do a little reverse and not go through it.
Jul 23, 2023 · JoyGenea FurnstahlAwesome for seclusion, only found 1 site with a fire ring not sure if the other 2 sites have this. Easy to get to and seems less trafficked. No picnic tables as an fyi but nice site overall.
Jul 08, 2022 · Tyler NeuzilThis Superior National Forest rustic campground has three drive-in sites which are suitable for small RVs and tents. There isn't any potable water but there is a vault toilet. There is a boat launch with dock for small boats or canoes. There isn't a fee for using rustic campgrounds and sites are first come first served. All garbage has to be carried out.
Jul 10, 2019 · Jim BjorkExcellent campgrounds, there are a lot of mosquitoes as would be expected. Fire rings and a bathroom. No running water so bring that. Three campgrounds total.
Feb 20, 2024 · Isaac MillesonLake isn't good for swimming but it's exactly what I'd expect with a rustic campground. Fire pit and spots for tents. Great spot for free camping.
