For local users in the Port Clinton, Ohio, area searching for "camping near me," Camp Perry Campground, located in Port Clinton, OH 43452, USA, offers a unique blend of historical significance, recreational opportunities, and practical amenities for a comfortable camping experience. Situated in a notable location with a rich past, this campground provides an attractive option for RVers and other campers seeking a tranquil and well-equipped base near Lake Erie.
The environment surrounding Camp Perry Campground is noteworthy due to its historical context. As one reviewer aptly points out, there is "wonderfully history behind the camp." Camp Perry is historically known as a training site for the Ohio National Guard and has a long association with military and shooting sports. This historical backdrop adds a layer of interest for visitors who appreciate sites with a story to tell. While the immediate natural environment isn't extensively detailed, its location in Port Clinton suggests proximity to the shores of Lake Erie, offering potential access to lake-related activities and scenic views. The presence of "shade trees" on the campsites indicates that campers can enjoy a degree of natural cooling and a pleasant ambiance during their stay.
In terms of services and features, Camp Perry Campground appears to cater particularly well to RV campers seeking full hookups. One reviewer specifically mentions the availability of "full hookups" at an unbeatable price, which is a significant advantage for RV travelers requiring water, sewer, and electrical connections. The campsites are described as "long paved level sites," making setup and leveling of RVs straightforward and convenient. This is a crucial feature for ensuring a comfortable and stable camping experience. While tent camping is not explicitly mentioned, the spaciousness of the lots and the presence of amenities like picnic tables and fire rings suggest that tent campers would also find suitable accommodations.
The campground also offers recreational activities, most notably its "wonderful current activities with the shooting programs." This unique feature ties into Camp Perry's historical and ongoing association with marksmanship and shooting sports. For individuals or groups interested in participating in these programs, staying at the campground offers exceptional convenience. While the specific nature and schedule of these programs are not detailed in the reviews, their presence is a significant draw for those with an interest in shooting sports.
Beyond the specific activities, Camp Perry Campground is lauded for its peaceful atmosphere. One reviewer noted that it was a "very quiet campground," and another mentioned "no noise from traffic or trains." This tranquility is a significant benefit for campers seeking a relaxing and undisturbed environment, away from the common noises associated with more centrally located campgrounds. The spaciousness of the lots likely contributes to this sense of peace and privacy, allowing campers to enjoy their space without feeling crowded.
Additional amenities mentioned include a bathhouse, which one reviewer noted "looked nice" although they did not use it. This suggests that restroom and shower facilities are available and maintained to a decent standard. Each lot is also equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, essential amenities for enjoying outdoor meals and campfires, enhancing the overall camping experience. The fact that the campground was only filled to about a third of its capacity during the first week of August, a typically busy camping season, might indicate a more relaxed and less crowded atmosphere compared to other campgrounds in the area, although this could vary depending on specific events or times of the year.

Camp Perry Campground Reviews
Wonderfully history behind the camp. Wonderful current activities with the shooting programs. You can't beat the location and price for full hookups, on a long paved level site, and shade trees. No noise from traffic or trains. We didn't use the bathhouse, but it looked nice.
Oct 15, 2024 · Allen FunkThe lots were spacious. Each lot has a picnic table and a fire ring. It was a very quiet campground. We were there the first week of August and it was only filled to a third of capacity.
Aug 17, 2024 · Sheri BeltzDONT USE GPS COORDINATES! If you see No Outlet do not turn down that road esp if you have an RV. Look for those 2 towers on the main road. That’s where you want to turn.
Sep 14, 2024 · Nicole KLarge camp spots with full hookups and very clean shower houses/bathrooms.
Jun 11, 2024 · Allen FrederickStayed there twice on our RV road trip from NH to CA and back. Beautiful little fam camp ground! The sites are plenty deep for big rigs and paved with beautiful green lawns on both sides. We had electric, water and sewer hookups. The sewer hookup for our site was rather odd, site #9 (I didn't investigate the other site sewer hookups) in that it was below the ground and didn't have a collar on it. We had to remove the elbow on the end of the stinky slinky. The restrooms and showers were not bad at all. We only stayed one night each time, so didn't do any sightseeing. Also, as other reviewers have stated, DO NOT ENTER on N Camp Perry Eastern Road!! (We made that mistake) Enter in on the main entrance that has a stone turret on either side of the entrance. There is no pass stop at this base. In May, it was too cool to take advantage of the lake, and sadly it was experiencing a huge fish die off. We stopped again on our way back during a big Mayfly hatch, LOL. Also, the water in the lake was not desirable for swimming. I don't know if it is always that way, and I know Camp Perry cannot be responsible for the lake.
