Checkers Welcome Campground Introduce
For local residents and travelers passing through southern Minnesota seeking a "camping near me" experience, Checkers Welcome Campground, located at 601 N Guide St, Welcome, MN 56181, USA, offers a location with both positive attributes and significant concerns raised by recent visitors. You can reach them at (507) 728-8811 or their mobile number +1 507-728-8811 for inquiries. Based on the available customer reviews, the campground presents a mixed picture, with praise for its facilities and layout contrasted sharply by negative feedback regarding the current owner's demeanor.
Environment and Layout:
One positive aspect highlighted by a visitor is the spaciousness of the campsites. The reviewer with a 45' fifth wheel noted that their spot was "plenty big" and even had room for their back deck. This suggests that Checkers Welcome Campground can accommodate larger RVs, which is a significant advantage for those traveling with big rigs and searching for "camping near me" with adequate space. Additionally, the presence of a "nice grass area" at some sites is beneficial for families with children and pet owners, providing a comfortable outdoor space for kids to play and dogs to roam (presumably within leash regulations). The grounds are described as "well kept," indicating an effort to maintain a tidy and presentable environment for guests.
Services and Amenities:**
The campground offers essential services and amenities that contribute to a comfortable stay. The availability of "full hookups" is a major draw for RV travelers, providing electricity, water, and sewer connections at the campsites. This convenience allows for a more self-sufficient and comfortable experience for those with recreational vehicles. Furthermore, the presence of "laundry facilities" is a significant benefit, especially for travelers on longer trips or those staying for multiple nights. One reviewer specifically praised the laundry facilities for being "so well kept and affordable," even choosing to do a load of laundry during their short stay. The excellent water pressure was also noted as a positive aspect, contributing to a more comfortable and functional experience for campers using their RV facilities.
Management and Customer Service - A Point of Contention:
The reviews present a stark contrast regarding the management and customer service at Checkers Welcome Campground. One reviewer had an overwhelmingly positive experience, specifically mentioning "Tom" as "extremely kind, helpful, professional, and personable." This positive feedback suggests that at least one individual associated with the campground provides excellent customer service, contributing significantly to a pleasant stay. This reviewer felt welcomed and well-cared for, highlighting Tom's helpfulness and friendly demeanor.
However, the second review paints a drastically different picture, expressing serious concerns about the current owner. This reviewer states that the campground "has the potential to be a very nice" place but predicts it will sit empty due to the owner's behavior. The accusations are severe, including being "cursed at by an owner regularly" and being "constantly watched and nagged about everything and anything each and every day" of their stay. The reviewer explicitly describes the owner's "people skill are poor to nonexistent at best" and strongly recommends that potential guests "drive the little bit extra to stay somewhere else." This negative experience was so profound that the reviewer, who brought "some one weeks of multiple campers for their business," felt "so unwanted" during their stay. This feedback raises significant red flags for anyone considering staying at Checkers Welcome Campground and suggests a potentially hostile or unpleasant interaction with the owner.
Overall Atmosphere:
The first reviewer described the night as "quiet," which is a desirable quality for a campground, allowing guests to rest and recharge peacefully. This suggests that, under favorable circumstances, Checkers Welcome Campground can offer a tranquil environment. However, the second review's negative experience with the owner's behavior casts a shadow over the overall atmosphere, suggesting that the potential for a peaceful stay might be contingent on avoiding negative interactions with the management.
Promotional Information for Local Users:
Given the conflicting reviews, it is challenging to formulate straightforward promotional information. Any objective introduction must acknowledge both the positive aspects and the serious concerns raised. For local users searching for "camping near me," Checkers Welcome Campground could potentially highlight:
- Spacious RV Sites: Emphasize the ability to accommodate large RVs with ample room.
- Full Hookup Availability: Promote the convenience of electricity, water, and sewer connections at the sites.
- Clean and Affordable Laundry Facilities: Highlight the well-maintained and reasonably priced laundry for longer stays or travelers needing to refresh their clothes.
- Well-Kept Grounds: Assure potential visitors that the campground is generally maintained in good order.
- Potential for a Quiet Night's Rest: Reference the positive experience of a quiet and peaceful overnight stay.
However, it is ethically imperative to also acknowledge the significant negative feedback regarding the owner. Therefore, any local user considering Checkers Welcome Campground should be made aware of the reported issues with customer service. A balanced approach would be to present the positive aspects while also advising potential guests to consider the recent negative review regarding the owner's behavior and its potential impact on their stay. It might be prudent for prospective campers to seek more recent reviews or even contact the campground directly to gauge the current management situation before making a reservation.
Conclusion for Local "Camping Near Me" Seekers:
Checkers Welcome Campground in Welcome, MN, offers certain advantages for those seeking "camping near me," including spacious RV sites with full hookups, clean and affordable laundry facilities, and generally well-kept grounds. Some visitors have reported a quiet and restful stay and praised the helpfulness of at least one staff member. However, a recent and concerning review details extremely negative interactions with the owner, including accusations of being cursed at and constantly harassed, leading to a strong recommendation to avoid the campground. This stark contrast in experiences suggests that the quality of a stay at Checkers Welcome Campground might be highly variable and significantly influenced by interactions with the current owner. Local users considering this campground should weigh the positive aspects of the facilities against the serious allegations of poor customer service and potentially unpleasant interactions with the management. It would be wise to seek out the most up-to-date reviews and possibly contact the campground directly to assess the current situation before making a booking decision. Given the severity of the negative feedback, proceeding with caution and seeking alternative options in the "camping near me" category might be advisable for those prioritizing a positive and welcoming camping experience.

Checkers Welcome Campground Reviews
We happened upon this campground on accident (behind schedule on our cross country trip and needed rest and full hookups). I am so thankful we did! We have 4 kiddos and 2 dogs, and the spot had a nice grass area for the kids. The spaces were plenty big for our rig (we even had space to put out the back deck of our 45' 5th wheel). The laundry facilities were so well kept and affordable that I even decided to run a load while we were here. Very clean and friendly facility. Quiet night, was exactly what our family needed to recharge. Tom was extremely kind, helpful, professional, and personable. Water pressure was excellent. Grounds well kept. Affordable.Absolutely would recommend to anyone passing through or looking for a place to stay several nights. We just wish our plans would have allowed for us to stay longer. It was the best stay we've had in our 3 weeks of cross country travels.
May 19, 2024 · Tess MarquardtHas the potential to be a very nice but with the current owner it is a matter of time before it’s sits empty. If you enjoy being cursed at by an owner regularly and being constantly watched and nagged about everything and anything each and every day you spend here come on in. His people skill are poor to nonexistent at best. I would highly recommend driving the little bit extra to stay somewhere else. Never brought some one weeks of multiple campers for their business and felt so in wanted in my life.
Jun 19, 2024 · Brendon GlebeA nice clean, quiet campground offering tent spots to full hook ups. Near interstate 90, but you don't hear any noise. Back in and pull through sites.
Jul 13, 2021 · Christine muellerPerfect spot off I-90 to have a hot shower & good rest… Sites were large, very long pull thru $25/ night with Passport America. Full hookups, pretty trees, very quiet— Site was VERY level, didn’t even unhook for the night… Diane was welcoming with a pre-arrival phone call to notify of construction day work ending, to avoid the detour… It felt homie & we would stay here again when traveling west.
Jul 14, 2022 · Samuel BThe campground itself, is fine, all the hook ups, even have soft water. .. but too many restrictions..cant put our camping rugs down , no parking on the grass .. I get it, that they want a nice campground..but have only had one other place not allow rugs.. made us feel unwelcome right away. Then he mows the grass o. A Saturday afternoon while we were trying to visit with company
