For local residents searching for "camping near me," Five Pines Camping & Rec, located at 667 Elliotsville Rd, Farmington, PA 15437, USA, presents an evolving camping destination. It's important to note, based on recent customer reviews, that this campground is currently under new ownership and undergoing significant repairs and improvements. Therefore, local users should be aware that the experience may differ from what might be advertised elsewhere, and it's advisable to contact them directly at (724) 329-4606 or +1 724-329-4606 for the most up-to-date information.
The environment surrounding Five Pines Camping & Rec is consistently described as beautiful. Situated in the countryside near Farmington, PA, the campground boasts a "small lake" at the entrance, offering a potentially scenic welcome and perhaps opportunities for lakeside relaxation. The property features "lots of open ground," which reviewers suggest were previously back-in campsites overlooking the lake area. This open space indicates the potential for spacious campsites with pleasant views once renovations are complete.
The campground is also located within minutes to half an hour from all the attractions in the Ohiopyle area, a region renowned for its natural beauty and outdoor recreational activities, including white water rafting. This proximity makes Five Pines Camping & Rec a potentially convenient basecamp for exploring Ohiopyle State Park and its surroundings.
In terms of services and features, the reviews provide a mixed picture due to the ongoing renovations. Currently, it seems "full hookups" are available, although one reviewer noted that it might require "some engineering." This suggests that while the connections are present, they might not be fully optimized or readily accessible at all sites. The new ownership has intentions to improve the infrastructure and expand the offerings.
One reviewer provided suggestions for the future development of the campground, indicating the potential for:
- Waterfront sites with electric-only hookups.
- Upgraded wooded sites with water, electric, and sewer for smaller RVs (around 20 feet).
- A dedicated cabin area to the left of the entrance.
- A primitive camping area beyond the cabins and a house with a pool (the status and accessibility of the pool are not entirely clear).
The mention of "owner maintenance was extremely helpful" suggests that the new management is responsive and willing to assist guests despite the ongoing improvements. Additionally, the presence of "on-site security" is noted as a positive aspect, potentially providing a sense of safety for campers.
A recurring theme in the reviews is the presence of wildlife. Guests have reported seeing turkey, deer, and even a young bear within the campground. This indicates a natural and potentially immersive outdoor experience for wildlife enthusiasts. However, campers should also take necessary precautions and be aware of local wildlife guidelines.
It's crucial for local users to understand that the current state of Five Pines Camping & Rec might not align with information found on older websites or descriptions. The new ownership is actively working to "make this once campsite a campsite again," implying that significant changes and upgrades are underway. Therefore, direct communication with the campground is essential to get an accurate understanding of the current amenities and conditions.
To summarize the current and potential environment, services, and features of Five Pines Camping & Rec:

Five Pines Camping & Rec Reviews
The review is more about the integrity of how this company is run vs the campground itself. We have a self contained RV and just needed a boondocking site for one night. Despite it being closed, the company offered to let us pay for one night without hookups. We paid ahead, but a miscommunication led us to miss the campground, and we found an alternative boondock site in the Borough of Ohiopyle. The company refunded our money. Look forward to another visit and maybe white water rafting in the future. The Borough and the area were charming!!
Dec 24, 2024 · Piper GilbertFor now you get a 2 overall... now I'll explain that... Update website... address is 393 Workman... Campgrounds is under repair and improving.New ownership is working to make this once campsite a campsite again. Countryside here is beautiful, small lake as you enter. Lots of open ground which use to be possibly back ins, overlooking this area. Office needs repaired asap and is in good location. Suggest a few waterfront sites with electric only. As you go into woods to right I suggest keep those sites as is, just add water and electric and sewer for 20 footers and less. To the left where cabins are being put in, make it all cabins. Beyond the cabins and house with pool, turn it into primitive with possible upgrades later. Owner maintenance was extremely helpful and apologetic for Rafting companies error in booking. On-site security is a cool dude.Do not expect this as the website says... yet ! For now you can get full hookups with some engineering. Wildlife walks right in on you... and leaves peacefully, too. Saw turkey, deer and I believe a young bearYour Intentions are good and it can be as described... has a good foundation.I did have a good time.Minutes to half hour from all sites in Ohiopyle area.Would love to visit again for a comped week to be able to raise your rating to 5.
Aug 22, 2023 · James LechnerDO NOT CALL THE NUMBER LISTED. It belongs to some elderly lady who has no clue how her number is associated with a campground. The address is 393 Workman Rd.Once entering the campground you drive past an old, falling apart office building. As you enter a wooded area you see a few cabins. That is the campground. The sites are all messed up. 80% of the sites don't have modern working electrical hookups. Once I was able to find an employee, he advised that the new owner is working to fix up the grounds. We were the first people under the new owner. I told him about the issues and he said he would tell the owner.I might be willing to return if it was a no charge tell us how we've improved/what still needs improved things.
Aug 29, 2023 · Richard LechnerIf you want to party all night in the woods with loud music, this is your place. The facilities weren't terrible for a campground and the sites were mostly flat. We had a no water/electric site so can't speak to that. If you have a camper, there are some sites but the drive way has a gravel road with a somewhat steep hill so be prepared to tow up that with whatever you have. For the meat of our experience, the first night wasn't terrible. We were placed close to another site which seemed a little odd since their weren't many campers and we could have been placed further away but didn't concern us at first. The first night, they stayed up fairly late talking and had a small child crying fairly often, it happens and we expected about the same the next night. The second night was horrible and something I've never had to deal with before. The other site was actually really quiet at first and we thought we would be lucky since it was 10pm and nothing had really started up there. Then at about 11pm a new car who had never been there comes in with their music blaring as they drive to the site and a group of drunk and loud people got out and everything started. I asked them nicely to keep it down so my family could sleep and was simply told that they planned to continue and it was their right to party here.I had to drive to the owners B&B since he wouldn't answer his phone. There he simply told me he wasn't going to do anything about it and we could move to another site if we wanted. If I am going to take down my tent and move my family in the middle of the night, it wasn't going to be to anywhere else in his mostly empty campground. We packed up the car and drove four hours back home in the middle of the night. That may seem extreme but we have no security from drunk people in the middle of the night. If we had called the police on them, there was nothing stopping them or friends from returning to the campground angry. There is no security stopping anyone from entering the grounds.I've been around enough to find there are two main groups in the woods, those who want to get drunk and loud and those who want to actually enjoy being away from crowds and the noise. If you are part of the first group, this is your place. If you are part of the second, go to the state park or Benner's.
