Based on recent customer reviews, this campground provides a quiet and nature-filled environment with spacious sites and a range of amenities suitable for families and individuals seeking a peaceful getaway in the West Virginia mountains.
The environment of Sand Springs Campground is consistently described as "nice and wooded" and "beautifully tucked away in the WV mountains." This suggests a setting characterized by mature trees providing ample shade and a sense of privacy for campers. The quiet atmosphere is also a recurring positive point, making it an ideal destination for those looking to escape the noise and bustle of everyday life. While one reviewer noted a sewage smell when walking around (though not at their site), the overall ambiance seems to be one of natural beauty and serenity. The early season visit of one reviewer hints at the potential for lush tree growth and pleasant weather during the main camping season, making it a place worth revisiting to fully appreciate its natural charm.
In terms of services, Sand Springs Campground appears to offer a range of amenities to enhance the camping experience. A "decent size" pool is mentioned, although it was not open during an early-season visit. This suggests a recreational option for warmer months. The presence of bathhouses is noted, although one reviewer did not use them. Water pressure was reported as low at times, which is something potential campers might want to be aware of. Laundry facilities are available, though described as small with only two washing machines and dryers. The features of Sand Springs Campground contribute to its appeal for various types of campers. The "spacious" campsites, often "heavily wooded/shaded," provide a comfortable and private setting. It's important to note that "many are not level," as mentioned by one reviewer, indicating that campers, especially those with RVs, may need extra blocks for leveling. A unique feature highlighted is the fire pits made of stone, which are appreciated for accommodating larger pieces of wood compared to standard metal rings. For families with children, there is a playground, which seems geared more towards younger kids but still enjoyable for a six-year-old. An arcade is also available, providing another option for entertainment. The combination of natural setting and recreational amenities makes Sand Springs Campground a potentially attractive "camping near me" choice for a variety of campers.

Sand Springs Campground Reviews
Stayed a weekend here. It was early season so the pool wasn’t open yet, but looked to be a decent size. The grounds are nice and wooded, and very quiet. I loved the fire pits made of stone, which allowed larger pieces of wood compared to other campgrounds with metal rings. We did not use the bathhouses at all. We did smell the sewage smell when out walking as others stated, but at our site we didn’t smell it at all. The water pressure was low at times. The playground is geared more towards smaller kids I think, but the 6 year old with us enjoyed the swings. The arcade is suitable enough for some entertainment as well. The lady at check in was great, very friendly, walked outside to show us where to go. The lady working Saturday seemed like she didn’t want to be there and put off a bad vibe unfortunately. We would like to come back during season to see the tree growth and have nicer weather. It rained the weekend we came. All in all a nice, quiet campground.
Apr 27, 2025 · Tat2 RNA beautiful campground tucked away in the WV mountains. Very quiet. The sites are spacious and heavily wooded/shaded. Many are not level. We needed extra blocks to level our motor home and noticed that those around us did so also. The pool and playground were clean and enjoyable. The laundry room was small, with only two washing machines and dryers. We enjoyed our stay.
Jul 02, 2024 · Kevin GlassThis is a peaceful and overall well maintained campground. The front desk staff was friendly. They have an arcade, laundry facility and pool (was under renovation when I was there). The campground is a decent size if you want to go on a walk or short run. The only reason why I gave 4 stars is it was challenging to level because the big gravel rocks on the site. I would love to come back here in the future.
Sep 02, 2022 · Karen KendzierskiThis is a really nice average size campground offering a mix of RV and tent sites. The sites are all nice sized and some are huge. Sites are gravel with grass between. Each site also has a fire pit and picnic table. The roads in the campground are gravel but are in good condition. There is good tree cover throughout the campground. It was actually pretty amazing that with all the trees in the campground the grounds were kept very clean. It shows real pride of ownership. There are two showers and one small laundry room which were a bit outdated but usable. There is also a really nice pool. AT&T cell service was pretty good, Verizon was pretty bad. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
Jun 21, 2022 · Steve WrightGreat place to experience the outdoors, nestled at the edge of the University's forest, surrounded by nature and friendly seasonal campers. We tented for 2 nights while our brother's family stayed in an RV across the street from our site. Both had a great time (albeit cold!) Our young kids (ages 3-6) LOVED exploring the woods and the small playground, our dogs were happy and welcome, the location near Morgantown breweries and Coopers Rock hiking was perfect, and the staff was so friendly. The bath houses are not luxurious but fit our needs just fine. Stay here!
