Flat Canyon Campground

Manti-La Sal National Forest, Forest Road #0057, Fairview, UT 84629, USA

We camp here every year in July and love it. It’s beautiful and easy to get to electric lake, gooseberry reservoir, and all the smaller reservoirs surrounding. Bathrooms always seem to be clean enough, and we’ve never had any issues. Some spots have more shade, so we’ve figured out which ones those are and stick to them.We usually have only tent camped, but this year brought our trailer and used the group site, and it was great. We’ll be back next year! - Eric Hansen

Looking for exceptional "camping near me" in the stunning landscapes of Utah? Consider Flat Canyon Campground, nestled within the expansive Manti-La Sal National Forest. Located off Forest Road #0057 in Fairview, UT 84629, USA, Flat Canyon Campground offers a basecamp for exploring the natural beauty and recreational opportunities of the region. For inquiries and reservations, you can contact them at (877) 444-6777 or their mobile number, +1 877-444-6777.

Based on feedback from campers, Flat Canyon Campground presents a mixed experience, with some aspects highly praised and others noted as areas for potential improvement. Many visitors highlight its beautiful setting and convenient access to a variety of outdoor activities and nearby attractions. Situated within the Manti-La Sal National Forest, the campground provides a gateway to the picturesque landscapes of central Utah.

One of the significant advantages of Flat Canyon Campground is its strategic location. It serves as an excellent jumping-off point for exploring popular destinations such as Electric Lake and Gooseberry Reservoir, both known for their recreational opportunities. Additionally, the campground is close to numerous smaller reservoirs, offering even more options for fishing, boating, and enjoying the water. For those who enjoy off-roading, the area boasts a good amount of trails suitable for UTVs and ATVs, providing thrilling adventures in the surrounding terrain. Hiking enthusiasts will also find opportunities for off-trail exploration in the vicinity.

For groups, Flat Canyon Campground offers a dedicated group site (site 13) that has been appreciated for its capacity to accommodate larger numbers. This site features a notably large fire pit, ideal for group gatherings and campfires. Furthermore, it is equipped with an abundance of tables, including a separate serving or food preparation table, making it well-suited for organized groups like scout troops or family reunions. The proximity of the group site to Boulger Reservoir, which is within a 10-minute walk and visible from the site, is another appealing feature, especially for those interested in fishing.

However, some campers have pointed out areas where the campground could be enhanced. One recurring concern is the condition and maintenance of the campsites. Some reviewers described the campground as "worn down" and "not very well maintained." Specifically, the group site was noted to have plants growing under the tables, which made them difficult to use. Additionally, finding flat spots for tent camping within the group site was reportedly challenging, leading to discomfort for some campers who found themselves sliding downhill during the night.

Another point of contention is the availability of shade. While one reviewer mentioned that some individual spots offer more shade and that they have learned which ones to seek out, another camper had a significantly different experience, particularly at the group site. They described the group site as "very sparse" in terms of trees and found the single sites to be not much better, recommending that visitors bring their own canopies for shade. This suggests that shade can be a limited resource in certain areas of the campground.

In terms of facilities, Flat Canyon Campground offers pit toilets, which were reported to be "pretty clean" during one visitor's stay, with an adequate supply of toilet paper and hand sanitizer. However, a significant drawback mentioned in a recent review is the non-operational water spigots. According to the review, the water spigots were not working and were not expected to be functional for at least another year. This lack of potable water within the campground is a considerable inconvenience and something potential visitors should be aware of and plan for accordingly.

The individual campsites are described as being relatively close together, which is common in many developed campgrounds. While this might not offer the most secluded experience, it is generally considered comparable to other similar camping facilities.

In summary, Flat Canyon Campground offers a compelling location within the Manti-La Sal National Forest, providing easy access to Electric Lake, Gooseberry Reservoir, Boulger Reservoir, and numerous ATV trails and hiking opportunities. The group site is particularly well-equipped for larger parties with its ample tables and large fire pit. However, potential visitors should be aware of the reported issues regarding campsite maintenance, limited shade in some areas, and the current lack of running water within the campground. The pit toilets are reportedly clean and well-stocked.

For local users seeking "camping near me" that prioritizes access to outdoor recreation and stunning natural surroundings, Flat Canyon Campground remains a viable option, especially for those prepared for the current conditions. If you value proximity to lakes, reservoirs, and off-road trails, and are willing to manage potential limitations regarding shade and the lack of running water, Flat Canyon Campground could serve as a convenient base for your adventures in the Manti-La Sal National Forest. Remember to call (877) 444-6777 or +1 877-444-6777 for the most up-to-date information on amenities and site availability before planning your trip.
