Gettysburg Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" with a unique blend of historical significance and natural surroundings? Consider Gettysburg Campground, located at 2030 Fairfield Rd, Gettysburg, PA 17325, USA. You can reach them at (717) 334-3304 or +1 717-334-3304. Based on recent customer reviews, Gettysburg Campground's prime feature is its excellent location, offering close proximity to the renowned Gettysburg National Military Park and other historical attractions. However, reviews also highlight some considerations regarding cancellation policies and campsite spacing. Let's explore the environment, services, features, and what this campground offers for local users interested in history and the outdoors.
Environment and Location:
Gettysburg Campground is situated in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, a town steeped in American history, most notably as the site of the pivotal Civil War battle. The campground's location on Fairfield Road places it conveniently near the historical sites that draw many visitors to the area. One reviewer noted that the location was "really spot on and actually was better than the lovely campsite itself," underscoring the primary appeal of being close to Gettysburg's historical landmarks. The campground itself features some natural elements, such as a stream bed, where at least one campsite was located. Tree coverage is also mentioned, which, despite the tight spacing of sites, was appreciated for the shade and slight sense of separation it provided. The overall environment is one where the historical significance of the region intertwines with the natural landscape of Pennsylvania.
For local users searching for "camping near me" who have an interest in history, Gettysburg Campground's proximity to the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center, as well as the battlefield itself, makes it an exceptionally convenient base. The natural surroundings of the campground offer a place to relax after a day of historical exploration.
Services and Amenities:
Reviews provide some insights into the services and amenities at Gettysburg Campground. One camper with a 30' Class C RV noted having electric hookups at their site (site 235). However, they also encountered an issue with electrical wiring along the river bed that prevented them from fully backing into their site. Bathrooms are described as "reasonably clean, but a shade old," suggesting they are functional but not recently renovated. A welcome amenity mentioned was "coin free hot water" in the bathrooms. The first review raises concerns about the campground's cancellation policy, where a $98 deposit was kept despite an 8-day prior cancellation, and the reviewer stated they could not find any information about a cancellation policy on the website or initial reservation. This is an important point for potential campers to be aware of and inquire about.
For locals looking for "camping near me," the availability of electric hookups might be a significant factor for RV owners. The clean, albeit older, bathrooms with free hot water are also a plus. However, the experience with the cancellation policy suggests the importance of clarifying these terms before booking.
Features and Highlights:
The primary highlight of Gettysburg Campground is its location, offering easy access to the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center, which one reviewer strongly recommends as "the highlight of the town with its video options." The proximity to the battlefield itself is another major feature, allowing campers to readily explore this significant historical site. The presence of a stream bed and tree coverage within the campground adds some natural charm, although the sites are noted to be "tightly packed together." For RVers, the recommendation to take the bus tour of the battleground, rather than navigating the "tight roads" and limited parking in an RV, is a valuable piece of advice.
The first reviewer's negative experience with the cancellation policy, where a significant deposit was retained without clear prior communication or a readily available policy, stands out as a point of caution. Potential campers should ensure they understand the cancellation terms before making a reservation.
For local users interested in "camping near me" primarily to explore the historical sites of Gettysburg, this campground's location is a major draw. However, it's important to be aware of the site spacing and to inquire about the cancellation policy.
Promotional Information:
While the reviews don't contain explicit promotional offers, the strong recommendation for visiting the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center acts as an indirect promotion for the area's main attraction, which is easily accessible from the campground. For local residents who have yet to fully experience the historical significance of Gettysburg, staying at a nearby campground like this could be an excellent way to do so. The availability of electric hookups might also be seen as a promotional point for RV owners.
To learn about any specific promotions or deals at Gettysburg Campground, contacting them directly at (717) 334-3304 would be advisable. Given the mixed reviews, it would also be prudent to inquire about their cancellation policy before booking.
Summary for Local Users:
If you're a local resident looking for "camping near me" primarily to explore the rich history of Gettysburg, Gettysburg Campground offers a very convenient location. You'll be close to the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center and the battlefields themselves. The campground has some natural appeal with streamside sites and tree coverage, although the sites are tightly spaced. Amenities include reasonably clean (if older) bathrooms with free hot water and electric hookups at some sites. However, be sure to inquire about their cancellation policy before booking, as one reviewer had a negative experience. For history enthusiasts in the area, Gettysburg Campground provides a practical base for immersing yourselves in this significant American landmark.

Gettysburg Campground Reviews
I had to cancel my reservation 8 days prior and the campground kept my entire $98 deposit. I spoke to someone on the phone and he NEVER mentioned anything about taking the full amount...he said whatever was left would go back on credit card. I under having to pay a late cancellation fee but considering they still had over a week to rebook the site, $98 is way too much to 'donate' to the campground. When i looked at my initial campground reservation as well as their website, I could find nothing about a cancellation policy. I definitely will not rebook at this campground!!!!
Apr 20, 2025 · Kimberly ScottReally this is one of those times, where the location is really spot on and actually was better than the lovely campsite itself. We had a tight squeeze along the stream bed. The sites are tightly packed together, but with the tree coverage, we could tolerate to tight site. Took me 3 times to get settled in which doesn't seem too bad, but I did stick out just a bit into the roadway not allowing me to back all the way back due to some electrical wiring along the river bed for my 30' Class C on site 235. Bathrooms were reasonably clean, but a shade old, but the coin free hot water was really welcome. We had to leave a day early, but would stay again given its close proximity to the historical sites. Everyone needs to visit the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center. It's the highlight of the town with it's video options. If your in a Class C, recommend taking the bus tour of the battleground - your find it worth the time rather than taking the tight roads where you just can't park close to most locations. Also there is no RV parking at the Eisenhower site despite what the bus driver told us. (only bad part) Also plan on at least 2 hours at visitor center at a minimum.
Oct 30, 2024 · Michael BrandinIt has been years since we have camped in Gettysburg and we came back to the same place. It did not disappoint! Just as we remembered it. Super convenient and close to downtown Gettysburg. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly upon checkin and answered all our questions. This place also gives military/veteran discounts. The park is right in some spots so just keep that in mind. Everything was clean and taken care of. Wish we could have gotten near the creek as it is peaceful there. The food trucks and farmers baked goods were excellent! We have missed this are so much and glad we had a good weekend. Tip: if you have a tall rig be careful of some spots as the power lines do run low. Cell signal is also a little spotty obviously because of where you are.
Oct 06, 2024 · Gigi G.We had a great stay! Our kids had a blast between mini golf and the playground. Had no issues with coming or going with our 30ft TT. Spots are very close together, but didn't bother us. We didn't get a chance to use the pool but looked clean. Well managed grounds, and friendly staff! Snag one of the river spots! They are so pretty. Only 10 min max to Gettysburg Visitors Center.
Aug 26, 2024 · Alyssa JohnsonNice campground. Spots are a little close together but lots of trees. Nice creek. Great playground for the kids, had free mini gold and a pool in the summer. Had some great activities while we were there and a couple of food trucks came in as well.
