Gettysburg Battlefield RV Resort & Campground Pennsylvania Introduce
Are you a history enthusiast or a traveler seeking a 'camping near me' experience in a location steeped in American heritage? The Gettysburg Battlefield RV Resort & Campground Pennsylvania, situated at 1960 Emmitsburg Rd, Gettysburg, PA 17325, USA, offers a unique opportunity to camp in close proximity to the historic Gettysburg Battlefield. This campground caters primarily to RV travelers and those seeking a basecamp for exploring the significant historical sites and attractions of the Gettysburg area.
One of the primary draws of this campground is its "Extremely nice location for camping," as noted by a recent visitor. Its proximity to the Gettysburg Battlefield, a site of immense historical importance, makes it an ideal choice for those wishing to immerse themselves in the area's rich past. Imagine camping just a short distance from where pivotal moments in American history unfolded, offering a unique and educational backdrop to your camping experience.
Another positive aspect mentioned by a long-term connection to the resort is that it offers "Shaded sites close to many activities." The presence of shaded campsites is a significant advantage, particularly during the warmer months, providing a comfortable and cooler environment for relaxation. The proximity to "many activities" suggests that beyond the historical significance of Gettysburg, the area offers a range of attractions and amenities that are easily accessible from the campground. While these activities are not specified in detail, they could include museums, historical tours, local shops, and restaurants, enhancing the overall visitor experience.
However, it's important to consider some limitations and potential drawbacks highlighted in the customer reviews. One visitor noted that "Campsites are generally very small." This could be a significant factor for RV owners with larger rigs or those who prefer more spacious camping areas. If you require a larger site, it would be prudent to inquire about site dimensions and availability when making a reservation.
Another practical consideration is the availability of sewer hookups. The same reviewer pointed out that "50% are non sewer sites." This means that half of the campsites do not offer direct sewer connections. If this is a crucial amenity for your RV setup and comfort, it is essential to specifically request a sewer site when booking and be aware that availability might be limited.
Furthermore, making a reservation at Gettysburg Battlefield RV Resort & Campground seems to be challenging, even for members. The review states, "Very difficult to make a reservation even as a member only campground." This suggests high demand and limited availability, requiring potential guests to plan well in advance and be persistent when trying to secure a booking. This could be particularly true during peak tourist seasons and around significant historical anniversaries.
A concerning issue raised in one of the reviews is the potential lack of water access. The visitor reported, "No water this camping trip guess they decided not to turn our section on for whatever reason." This indicates a potential inconsistency in the provision of essential utilities, which could significantly impact the comfort and convenience of your stay. It would be wise to inquire about the reliability of water hookups for your specific site and during your intended travel dates when making a reservation.
It's also mentioned that "This is an owner resort for TRA," and the reviewer and their husband "work there all summer in the snack bar." While this highlights a personal connection and positive sentiment from someone deeply involved with the resort, it's important to consider all feedback objectively. The reviewer also mentions a fondness for "the fall and Halloween time of year," suggesting that the campground may offer specific activities or a particular ambiance during these seasons, which could be appealing to visitors planning trips during those times.
Considering the information available, Gettysburg Battlefield RV Resort & Campground offers a unique advantage through its prime location near the Gettysburg Battlefield and the availability of shaded sites close to various attractions. However, potential guests should be aware of the reported limitations regarding campsite size, the limited availability of sewer hookups, the difficulty in securing reservations, and the potential for issues with water access. It is crucial to weigh these factors based on your individual needs and preferences when considering this campground for your 'camping near me' experience.
As there is no specific promotional information provided in the reviews, local users interested in staying at Gettysburg Battlefield RV Resort & Campground should contact them directly at (855) 432-8457 or +1 855-432-8457. When calling, be sure to inquire about campsite sizes, the availability of sewer and water hookups for specific sites, the process and difficulty of making reservations (especially if you are not a TRA member), and any seasonal activities or events that might be offered. It would also be prudent to ask about the reliability of utilities during your intended stay.
In conclusion, for those seeking 'camping near me' with a strong interest in the historical significance of Gettysburg, the Gettysburg Battlefield RV Resort & Campground offers an appealing location with shaded sites and proximity to area attractions. However, prospective visitors should be prepared for potentially small campsites, limited sewer hookups, challenging reservation procedures, and the possibility of utility disruptions. Direct communication with the campground management is essential to gather the most accurate and up-to-date information to ensure a satisfactory camping experience in this historically rich locale.

Apr 07, 2025 · Tammy SnyderWe went on a free weekend, given to us when we bought our RV, we attended the sale pitch by Chris. This was nothing like a time share sales pitch. He was not pushy at all, when I decline due to our style of camping mainly (weekenders) and that we are looking for places close to the ocean. He provided me with some great tips on coast to coast and campgrounds. The place is 7 minutes from downtown that is awesome. Bathroom are clean and we had a great time. If you go for a sale pitch try to get Chris what a gentleman. We don’t leave close enough to this campground to take advantage of what the membership offers. However with coast to coast is a great deal. Don’t hesitate take a look at the resort go to the sale pitch and you get additional 21 days camping is a no brainer for us. Thank you Chris and TRA for a wonderful weekend and the free 21 days!! We will back soon.
Nov 07, 2024 · Marisol CuervoWhere should I start? I guess I'll start at check in. I pulled in to the campground where a lady in the booth said oh I don't have your tag it's at the office(okay so why stop me). I walk into the office where there are 2 female workers and a male manager I'm assuming. He's talking loudly and very condescending to the one female worker. Anyways, I gave the older lady my name and site number. She hands me a stack of paper work and said someone will escort you to your site(no welcome to Gettysburg or thanks for staying with us).So I'm sitting in my truck waiting for my escort when a guy on a golf cart pulls up to escort me to the site....all he did was get in my way of getting in, backing in and setting up.The sites are very uneven. Either side to side or front to back so be prepared to run your camper up on blocks and boards to get level. The sites were also muddy and the grass was very tall. Bathrooms were okay. Clean but could always be cleaner. Now for the trap....as many said they promise you all these "free gifts" as long as you take the tour. Jade was our "tour guide" yesterday. She drove us to a cabin where she basically held as hostage. When we stepped out she came outside to only usher us back inside. She took us to the sales office(never showed us any other part of the campground besides the cabin near the algae infested pond). Where they had a room with the other resorts listed. She basically said look at these. These are awesome. Buy them! Which of course was the most expensive package. When I told Jade that my wife and I need some time to think about it to make a sound investment, she insisted to run our credit which I said no(especially since we have a new child on the way). When we once again declined, her attitude immediately changed. I said that I would be interested in talking once our kids are older but not at this point. I asked for her card, which she refused to give it to us since "nobody returns her calls". I hand out business cards to everyone, it's a great way to get your brand, business and name out there but I guess she missed that in marketing/sales class. As far as Jade herself, she was not dressed appropriately for a sales job. Messy unkept look with a large oversized hoodie? Odd choice. The location of the campground is fantastic. You're steps from the National Military Park, Visitor center and downtown Gettysburg. Overall the campground gets a ⭐ rating. My grandparents camped here when I was younger and the quality of the campground has drastically declined. Not impressed, save yourself.
