I had the privilege of staying here while my honey and his crew were working in College Place for 6 weeks. This is a beautiful well cared for park is the perfect retreat for recharging your soul. Being next to the river is peaceful, and fishing it is even better. The camp hosts, Chip, Chad, and Pat and her Husband Rob were wonderful people. Chip was so kind to share the history of the area and converse with. Lots of wildlife hanging around. Had the liberty of hanging out with the deer, they enjoy the apple trees in the camp ground. Saw Mama bear and two cubs hanging around the apple trees too. - Stephanie Weiss

Harris Park Introduce

For local residents in the Milton-Freewater, Oregon, area and those searching within the "camping near me" category for a tranquil and nature-filled getaway, Harris Park, located at 78689 S Fork Walla Walla River Rd, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862, USA, offers a delightful retreat. Based on recent customer reviews, this well-maintained park provides a peaceful riverside setting with opportunities for relaxation, wildlife viewing, and fishing, making it an ideal spot for recharging amidst nature's beauty.

One of the most frequently praised aspects of Harris Park is its serene and picturesque environment. Situated right by the "little Walla Walla River," the campground offers a soothing ambiance that many visitors find incredibly relaxing. The sound of the river contributes to the peaceful atmosphere, making it a "perfect retreat for recharging your soul." For local users seeking an escape from the stresses of daily life, the riverside location of Harris Park provides an idyllic setting to unwind and reconnect with nature.

Beyond its tranquil setting, Harris Park is also a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. Multiple reviewers have highlighted the abundance of animals that frequent the area. Deer are particularly common, with one visitor recounting the "liberty of hanging out with the deer" as they enjoyed the apples from the campground's trees. Even more exciting is the mention of seeing a "Mama bear and two cubs hanging around the apple trees too," indicating the presence of larger wildlife in the vicinity. Additionally, wild turkeys are frequently sighted throughout the day and evening. This rich wildlife viewing potential makes Harris Park a unique destination for local nature lovers and photographers.

For those who enjoy angling, the Walla Walla River offers opportunities for fishing right from the campground. One reviewer noted that being "next to the river is peaceful, and fishing it is even better," suggesting that the river is not only aesthetically pleasing but also a productive spot for local fishermen. Wading in some of the "dammed up places" in the river was also mentioned as something that would be enjoyable for children, indicating shallow and safer areas for water play, although caution should always be exercised around natural water bodies.

Harris Park caters to RV campers with the availability of "water and electric" hookups at the campsites. This is a significant convenience for local RV owners looking for a comfortable and well-serviced camping experience. However, it's important to note that "there is no sewer hook up available," so RVers will need to plan accordingly for waste management. Despite this limitation, the provision of water and electricity makes Harris Park a viable option for extended stays and comfortable camping.

The restroom facilities at Harris Park are described as "clean" but somewhat basic, with "just a one stall bathroom" and "no showers." While the cleanliness is a definite plus, the limited number of stalls and the absence of showers might be a consideration for some local campers, especially during potentially busier times. However, one reviewer noted that during their weekday visit, it was not busy, and they never had to wait to use the restroom.

For families with young children, Harris Park offers a "nice playground," providing a dedicated space for kids to play and burn off energy. This amenity adds to the park's appeal as a family-friendly "camping near me" option, allowing children to enjoy outdoor recreation within the safety of the campground.

Harris Park also boasts "large group facilities available to be reserved." This is a significant feature for local users planning family reunions, group outings, or other large gatherings. The availability of these facilities makes Harris Park an excellent choice for organized events in a beautiful natural setting. Interested parties should contact the park directly to inquire about reservations and capacity.

The camp hosts at Harris Park, identified as Chip, Chad, and Pat with her husband Rob, are consistently praised for their friendliness and helpfulness. One reviewer described them as "wonderful people," with specific mention of Chip sharing the history of the area. The host and the maintenance guy were both noted for being "extremely friendly to visit with" and doing a "great job at their jobs," contributing significantly to the positive overall experience of staying at Harris Park.

The campsites themselves, as experienced by one reviewer in space #12, can get "a little hot in the afternoons" but offer a "beautiful view of the meadow." This suggests that while some sites might have limited shade during peak sunlight hours, the scenic views of the surrounding meadow are a definite perk. The "huge meadow in the campground" is another environmental feature that contributes to the park's relaxing and open feel, providing ample space for leisurely strolls and enjoying the natural landscape.

It is important for local users to be aware that "there is no Wi-Fi or cell service available in this park." This can be a significant consideration for those who need to stay connected or rely on these services for navigation or emergencies. However, for many seeking a true escape into nature, the lack of connectivity can be a welcome opportunity to disconnect and fully immerse themselves in the peaceful surroundings.

In terms of promotion, the overwhelmingly positive reviews act as strong endorsements for Harris Park. The recurring themes of a beautiful and peaceful environment, abundant wildlife, friendly hosts, and well-maintained facilities make it an attractive option for local campers. The specific mentions of fishing opportunities, the playground, and the large group facilities further highlight the diverse appeal of the park.

For local residents searching for "camping near me" in the Milton-Freewater area, Harris Park offers a wonderful opportunity to relax by the Walla Walla River, enjoy abundant wildlife sightings, and experience the hospitality of friendly camp hosts. Whether you are an RV camper looking for water and electric hookups, a family seeking a peaceful getaway with a playground, or a group planning a large gathering, Harris Park provides a beautiful and well-cared-for setting. Just be prepared for the lack of sewer hookups, limited bathroom stalls, no showers, and no internet or cell service, and you are sure to enjoy a rejuvenating stay in this local gem.
