Hazard Campground Introduce
For local adventurers seeking the perfect "camping near me" experience in Idaho, Hazard Campground, located on Hazard Lake Rd in Pollock, offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in nature's tranquility. Situated amidst the stunning landscapes of Idaho, this campground provides access to not just one, but three picturesque lakes, catering to various camping preferences and outdoor activities.
Hazard Lake itself is the focal point of the campground, offering convenient pull-up camping sites suitable for both trailers and tents. This accessibility makes it an excellent choice for families and those who prefer the ease of parking their vehicles directly at their campsite. Imagine setting up camp just a stone's throw away from the shimmering waters of Hazard Lake, ready to enjoy a day of lakeside relaxation or embark on nearby adventures.
The surrounding area boasts two additional lakes, Big Hazard and Upper Hazard, adding to the allure of this camping destination. While these lakes require a bit more effort to reach, accessible via hiking trails, their pristine beauty makes the journey worthwhile. According to local insights, all three lakes are renowned for their fishing opportunities, particularly for families with young children. This suggests that Hazard Campground is an ideal base for anglers of all ages looking to cast a line and enjoy the peacefulness of mountain lakes.
For those who enjoy hiking, the trail to Upper Hazard Lake is a notable feature. Described as a manageable two-mile hike with a gradual elevation gain of only 400 feet, it offers a rewarding experience with stunning views as your destination. One reviewer specifically mentioned the trail to Upper Hazard Lake and Hard Creek Lake being in very good condition, indicating well-maintained paths for exploration.
The environment around Hazard Campground carries a story of resilience. A significant wildfire in 1994 impacted the area, but nature's recovery is evident. While one long-time visitor of 70 years notes the presence of numerous standing dead trees, a reminder of the past event, they also emphasize the area's continued gorgeous and serene atmosphere. The fall season is particularly highlighted for its vibrant colors, painting a breathtaking backdrop for your camping experience.
However, it's important to be aware of some potential drawbacks mentioned by visitors. One concern raised is the maintenance of facilities. Specifically, an incident involving an unclean outhouse was reported, suggesting that upkeep might occasionally fall short of expectations. While this might not be a consistent issue, it's something to keep in mind when planning your trip.
Another significant point of feedback revolves around the road leading to Hazard Campground. A recurring concern is the development of an "interminable washboard" surface by mid-July each year, which reportedly does not receive sufficient grading. This could potentially impact the comfort of your drive, especially if you are towing a trailer. One seasoned visitor even reminisced about a time before the improved road, when the more challenging access seemed to correlate with a more pristine environment and respectful visitors. While the easier access now benefits more people, the road condition is a factor to consider, particularly during the peak summer months.
Despite these challenges, the overall sentiment from reviews suggests that Hazard Campground remains a "great place" for those seeking a natural escape. The opportunity to explore multiple lakes, engage in fishing and hiking, and witness nature's recovery firsthand offers a unique and valuable experience for those looking for "camping near me" in the Pollock area.
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip to Hazard Campground, it would be prudent to contact them directly at (208) 634-0400 or +1 208-634-0400. You can inquire about the current road conditions, the availability of campsites for your preferred dates and camping style (tent or trailer), and any specific amenities offered at the campground. Asking about the status of restroom facilities and water sources would also be beneficial in preparing for your stay.
While the provided information doesn't include specific promotional details or seasonal offers, reaching out directly to the campground is the best way to learn about any current specials or recommendations for the best time to visit based on your interests, whether it's fishing in the spring, hiking in the fall colors, or enjoying the lakeside in the summer.
In conclusion, Hazard Campground presents a compelling option for local users searching for "camping near me." Its unique offering of three lakes, coupled with opportunities for hiking and fishing in a recovering natural environment, creates a memorable outdoor experience. While the road conditions and facility maintenance are aspects to be aware of, the beauty and recreational potential of the area make it a destination worth considering for your next camping adventure in Idaho.

Hazard Campground Reviews
There are three lakes to explore in this area. Hazard Lake is the only one with pull up camping for trailers or tents. The other two Big Hazard and Upper Hazard are close by but require you to hike in. They are all beautiful especially in Fall with the colors. The locals said they were great fishing lakes especially for young kids. Upper Hazard Lake is a two mile hike with only 400 feet of elevation gain. Well worth the hike.
Oct 19, 2024 · M “MO” MorrisonI’ve been going to Hazard Lake for 70 years. Despite the devastating fire in 1994(?), it remains a gorgeous and serene spot. It is recovering well from the fire, though there remain innumerable standing dead trees that can occasionally be heard crashing in the surrounding forest. On this visit, one of the outhouses had been smeared with excrement and was not cleaned - yuck! Maintenance seems a bit of an issue. The main reason Hazard Campground does not get 5 stars is the road to the campground is interminable washboard by mid-July every year and does not get sufficient grading. Hazard Lake was, frankly, a better place to go prior to the “new” road in the early 1960’s that allows easier and faster access. When you had to crawl your 4x4 in on unimproved tracks, at least there was no washboard and the people who put in the effort to get there didn’t trash the forest or the lakes. But I digress… it’s still a great place, just not what it once was.The trail to Upper Hazard Lake and Hard Creek Lake. Was in very good condition.
Aug 04, 2024 · David DayThe dirt road up to the CG is a slog but go slow & the trip is worth it. One of the prettiest places we have been. Gets full on weekends!
Jul 12, 2021 · Shelia StovallA very quiet campground with good tent and trailer sites. No trash or water available, so pack your own in & out. It does have pit toilets, which were nice and clean when we visited. The area burned in ~1994, so it isn't quite as scenic as other campgrounds a bit further south, but it is still pretty in its own way. Lots of hiking trails and OHV roads around, but they suffer from the fire in terms of views as well.Overall, I would camp here again.
Aug 24, 2016 · David Martin (DAVe3283)Beautiful area. Fishing wasn't too great. Caught a beautiful Brookie with orange power bait. Plenty of well maintained camping spots. Camp host was super nice. Bathrooms were okay. Spring water from the pump was good. Will definitely go again.
