For our local users in US, while Denver, PA, is geographically distant, examining the varied experiences reported at campgrounds like Hickory Run can offer valuable insights into the diverse realities of camping in other regions, including potential challenges and unexpected positives. This information can be helpful for broadening your understanding of global camping perspectives and preparing for future international travel.
The available customer reviews for Hickory Run Campground present a mixed picture, with significant concerns raised alongside a few positive notes. One review explicitly states that the writer has never stayed at the campground but, based on the management's responses to other reviews and numerous complaints about the staff, they do not feel comfortable camping there. This reviewer expresses concerns about unprofessionalism and a perceived focus solely on monetary gain, urging others to read reviews before booking and stating their intention to take their business elsewhere. This review highlights potential issues with customer service and management's handling of complaints.
Another review describes the campground as "adequate" but "not especially exciting," suggesting it meets basic needs without offering any exceptional experiences. A significant concern raised in this review is the prevalence of golf carts "everywhere all the time," with the speed limit reportedly not being enforced, leading to unsafe travel by both cars and golf carts throughout the campground. Additionally, this reviewer notes that quiet hours are also not enforced, potentially resulting in a noisy environment, especially if the weekend they experienced was indicative of typical conditions with rule-ignoring and self-centered individuals.
On a more positive note, a very brief review mentions that the "ice cream was good and it was fun to pet the horses." This suggests that the campground might offer some basic amenities like a store selling ice cream and perhaps have some animals, like horses, on-site that guests can interact with.
Environment: Potentially Basic with Frequent Golf Cart Traffic
Based on the limited information, the environment of Hickory Run Campground can be inferred as:
- Adequate but Not Exciting: One reviewer's description suggests a basic natural setting that meets fundamental camping needs but lacks any particularly outstanding scenic or environmental features.
- Prevalence of Golf Carts: A notable aspect seems to be the significant presence of golf carts moving around the campground at potentially unsafe speeds. This could impact the overall ambiance and safety, especially for pedestrians and children.
- Possible Presence of Horses: The mention of petting horses indicates that there might be some equine residents on the property, potentially offering a unique interaction for guests. The context (e.g., are they for riding, just for viewing?) is not provided.
The lack of detail about natural features like forests, lakes, or hiking trails in the reviews suggests that these might not be the primary draws of this campground, or at least were not notable enough for these reviewers to mention.
Services and Amenities: Basic Needs Met, Ice Cream Available
The services and amenities at Hickory Run Campground, based on the reviews, appear to be somewhat limited and warrant caution based on the negative feedback:
- Basic Needs Met: The campground is described as "adequate" and meeting "basic needs," which likely includes essential facilities like campsites, restrooms, and water access. However, the quality and maintenance of these are not detailed.
- Ice Cream Sales: The availability of "good" ice cream suggests an on-site store or service offering this treat.
- Possible Animal Interaction (Horses): The opportunity to pet horses indicates a potential amenity for animal lovers. The extent of this interaction or whether there are other animals is not mentioned.
- Questionable Rule Enforcement: The lack of enforcement of speed limits for golf carts and cars, as well as quiet hours, raises concerns about the management's commitment to ensuring a safe and peaceful environment for all guests.
- Potentially Unprofessional Staff: The concerns raised by one reviewer about the staff's professionalism and the management's handling of complaints suggest potential issues with customer service.
The absence of mentions of common campground amenities like a pool, organized activities, laundry facilities, or detailed information about campsite hookups suggests that Hickory Run Campground might focus on more basic offerings.
Features: Golf Cart Traffic, Potential Noise Issues, and Limited Positives
The features of Hickory Run Campground, as perceived by the reviewers, include:
- Frequent and Fast Golf Cart Traffic: This seems to be a dominant feature, potentially impacting safety and the overall atmosphere of the campground.
- Lack of Rule Enforcement: The failure to enforce speed limits and quiet hours could lead to a disruptive and less enjoyable experience for guests seeking a peaceful retreat.
- Adequate Basic Facilities: While not explicitly praised, the campground meets basic camping needs.
- Ice Cream: A small positive feature is the availability of ice cream.
- Horses to Pet: Interaction with horses is another minor positive aspect mentioned.
- Concerns About Staff and Management: The unprofessionalism and poor handling of complaints, if widespread, would be a significant negative feature.
Overall, the features highlighted in the reviews raise more concerns than positives, particularly regarding the environment created by the lack of rule enforcement and the potential issues with staff and management.

Connecting with "Camping Near Me" Platforms
For local users in US, Hickory Run Campground in Denver, Pennsylvania, is geographically distant and would not appear in a local "camping near me" search. However, the issues raised in the reviews – such as lack of rule enforcement and concerns about staff – are important considerations when evaluating any campground, whether local or international. When using "camping near me" platforms in US, it's advisable to pay close attention to reviews that mention the campground's atmosphere, noise levels, and the responsiveness and professionalism of the staff and management. These factors can significantly impact the overall camping experience.
When planning international travel to the Pennsylvania region, searching for Hickory Run Campground on camping review sites might provide a broader range of opinions and potentially address the conflicting views presented in the limited information here. It would be wise to look for more recent reviews to see if the issues regarding rule enforcement and staff have been addressed or if they persist. The brief positive notes about ice cream and horses might be appealing to some, but the more serious concerns warrant careful consideration.
Conclusion: A Campground with Mixed Reviews and Potential Concerns
Based on the limited customer reviews, Hickory Run Campground near Denver, PA, appears to be a basic campground that meets fundamental needs but may have significant drawbacks. The recurring concerns about the lack of enforcement of rules (speed limits for vehicles and golf carts, quiet hours) and potential issues with staff professionalism and management's responsiveness to complaints are serious considerations for potential guests. While there are minor positive mentions of ice cream and horses, these seem overshadowed by the negative feedback regarding the overall environment and management practices. For local users in US, this introduction highlights the importance of thoroughly researching reviews for any campground, paying attention to comments about safety, noise levels, and the quality of service. For those considering Hickory Run Campground, it is strongly recommended to seek out a wider range of recent reviews to get a more comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of the campground's current conditions and management practices before making a booking decision. The initial negative review urging others to avoid the campground should be given due consideration in this evaluation process.

Hickory Run Campground Reviews
i’ve never stayed here but read reviews before booking anywhere as i would like to know anything that i would need to watch out for or good things to look forward to. based off of your response to reviews and the numerous complaints about your staff which you seem to just let slide by, i do not feel comfortable camping here. this seems incredibly unprofessional and seems like you are just out for money. i urge everyone to read the reviews of this place before booking. sad to see that this is how customers are treated, will take my business elsewhere.
Apr 30, 2025 · Alexis JunkerIt is an adequate campground. Not especially exciting, but meets basic needs. Be prepared for golf carts everywhere all the time. The speed limit is not enforced and cars and golf carts travel way too fast throughout the camp. Quiet hours are also not enforced. May have just been a bad weekend full of people who don't follow the rules and only care about themselves.Ice cream was good and it was fun to pet the horses.
Oct 20, 2024 · Matt SmallWe went to HIckory Run for the first time Memorial Day Weekend 2024. We found the staff to be very friendly, along with all the campers. The whole place seemed well maintained, and even with a ton of folks using the large pool it was extremely clean. We subsequently booked 2 more trips this season. The events for our grandson were great, especially creeking and the forgotten friends critter show. He absolutely fell in love with the rope swings. The only downside is this campground is not bike friendly. It is very hilly and has lots of loose gravel on the paths. That being said, you can easily walk anywhere on the property.
Aug 27, 2024 · Bob HardcastleThis has been our 3rd year camping at this location and could not be happier. Everyone is so nice and helpful. Especially the young girls in the office, ready to assist with a smile. The campsites are ample and clean. Pool is in the sun for that nice tan. Bathroom and showers are always clean. If you’re looking for a great campground I would recommend going here.
Jun 18, 2024 · Sugeiry RosarioThe park itself is beautiful. I was really looking forward to this trip. My husband and i were looking forward to a relaxing time with nature. Sorry to say it was anything but that. We stayed in the pet area because we always bring our pups. The people next to us had 2 dogs one of which was very aggressive barking at everyone. They kept it tethered on a line the whole time. Tons of tents around us. Did not expect this since we were in an RV. Extremely noisy with screaming kids the whole time. The camp host was working and banging on his truck for the first two hours of us arriving. Again the park is beautiful but it was anything but quiet and peaceful. I personally feel tent campers should have their own section away from RVers.
