Lackawanna State Park Campground Introduce
For local users in Pennsylvania searching for "camping near me," Lackawanna State Park Campground, located at Lake View Dr, Dalton, PA 18414, USA, offers a camping experience within the natural beauty of Lackawanna State Park. While direct contact information like a phone number was not provided in the input, general information about state park campgrounds is often available through the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) website.
Lackawanna State Park itself encompasses a significant area with a 198-acre lake, woodlands, and various recreational opportunities. The campground within the park provides a base for exploring these natural features. However, it's important for potential visitors to consider recent feedback from campers to get a comprehensive understanding of the current conditions and services.
Environment:
Lackawanna State Park is characterized by its natural environment, including a lake that likely offers scenic views and potential water-based activities. The presence of woodlands suggests opportunities for hiking and enjoying nature. State parks generally prioritize the preservation of natural landscapes, so campers can likely expect a setting immersed in nature.
One review mentions hearing potential gunshots from hunters, indicating that hunting might be permitted in certain areas of the park during designated seasons. This is a common practice in many state parks, and campers should be aware of this possibility, especially during hunting seasons.
Another review mentions severe weather leading to a power outage, highlighting that the natural environment can sometimes present challenges for campers.
Services:
Based on the provided reviews, Lackawanna State Park Campground offers the following services and features, with some noted issues:
- Full Hook-up Area: A newer section with full hook-ups (water, electric, sewer) is available, although one reviewer noted low water pressure and rocky pads.
- Restrooms: Restrooms are present and noted as clean, but small and not ADA compliant for the showers across all three loops.
- Power Boxes: Available at campsites, though one instance was reported where tent campers misused a power box at another site.
One positive note regarding service is a mention of "Nina at the Office" being very responsive to feedback and pleasant.
The negative reviews also point out a lack of offered relocation assistance during a severe weather-related power outage, which impacted the camping experience.
Typically, state park campgrounds also offer basic amenities like picnic tables and fire rings at each campsite. Given that this is a state park, there are likely regulations regarding quiet hours, although one reviewer reported fireworks occurring outside of these hours.
Features:
The primary feature of Lackawanna State Park Campground is its location within a state park, providing access to the park's natural attractions, including:
- A 198-acre lake, potentially for boating, fishing, or swimming (though not explicitly mentioned in the reviews).
- Woodlands for hiking and nature observation.
- Wildlife, including potential for hunting in designated areas and seasons.
Within the campground itself, features include:
- New full hook-up sites (with noted issues).
- Standard campsites (presumably without full hook-ups).
- Restroom facilities (with size and accessibility limitations noted).
One reviewer mentioned uneven parking pads at some sites, requiring leveling blocks.
Promotional Information:
No specific promotional information or special offers were included in the provided text. For information on camping fees, reservations, or any current promotions, local users would typically need to visit the official Pennsylvania DCNR website for Lackawanna State Park or contact them directly if a phone number for the campground office is available through that resource.
State parks often have seasonal camping availability and may offer discounts for longer stays or during off-peak seasons. It would be advisable to check the official park website for such details.
Objective Introduction for Local Users:
Lackawanna State Park Campground, situated within the scenic Lackawanna State Park near Dalton, PA, offers a camping experience immersed in nature, with access to a lake and woodlands. For local users searching for "camping near me" and interested in exploring a Pennsylvania state park, this campground provides a base to enjoy the outdoors.
The campground features both standard campsites and a newer section with full hook-ups. However, recent reviews indicate potential issues such as low water pressure in the full hook-up area, rocky pads, uneven parking at some sites, and small, non-ADA compliant showers in the restrooms. One reviewer also mentioned a lack of assistance during a weather-related power outage and instances of other campers not respecting campsite boundaries or quiet hours.
On a positive note, the restrooms are reported as clean, and one staff member in the office, Nina, was commended for being responsive and pleasant.
If you are considering camping here, be aware of the potential for uneven ground, the possibility of low water pressure in full hook-up sites, and the limitations of the restroom facilities. Also, be mindful of the potential for hunting activities in the park, especially during hunting seasons, and the need to be prepared for varying weather conditions.
To obtain the most current information on availability, fees, rules, and any potential advisories, local users should consult the official Pennsylvania DCNR website for Lackawanna State Park. This will also provide details on making reservations, which are often recommended for state park campgrounds, especially during peak seasons.
In summary, Lackawanna State Park Campground offers a natural camping setting with some developed amenities, but recent feedback suggests potential drawbacks regarding site conditions and some aspects of service. Prospective campers should weigh these points and seek up-to-date information from official sources before planning a visit.

Lackawanna State Park Campground Reviews
Stayed in the new full hook up area. Sites were big and roomy. However, the water pressure is ridiculously low, as well as the pads have rocks which get tracked into your camper. Not impressed, will not be back.
Apr 05, 2025 · Dave OberleThe parking pad in site 82 is uneven right to left!! Had to use leveling blocks. Tent campers were using our power box when we arrived and were running up to our site to get their devices. The first night there were fireworks in the tent area between 9-10 pm…so much for quiet hours. And we heard multiple gun shots fired, possibly from hunters. If you come here bring orange for you and your animals. Last night was severe weather and we’re still without power. No offer to help us relocate with temperatures rising to above 90 this afternoon. We’re out of here. Lackawanna we wanted to love you but this is our first and last time at this campground!!!Oh and the restrooms are clean but small. Forget ADA compliant for the showers. I went to all three loops hoping to find something a little larger but no such thing!!!Updated to add a star for Nina at the Office. She was very responsive to our feedback and pleasant to hear from!!
Jul 16, 2024 · Elizabeth ChurchWe stayed in the Ledges look as we had RV and tent campers.THERE ARE NO RESTROOMS IN THIS LOOP OR IN WALKING DISTANCE TO THESE SITES. Even if it’s built for RV campers there should still be a restroom! The listing says bathroom within 1/4 mile hike….. there’s no way.
Sep 22, 2024 · Fran DubsIt was good but of you want to go camping in the woods I would not go here because there are some paths through your site and there are paved roads/drive ways
