London Primitive Trailside Camp Area Introduce
For local users seeking a distinctive "camping near me" experience, particularly those who are hikers or trail enthusiasts, the London Primitive Trailside Camp Area, located on Prairie Grass Trail, London, OH 43140, USA, offers a unique set of amenities tailored to trail users. While described as "primitive," it appears to offer some surprising comforts that enhance the trailside camping experience.
The environment of the London Primitive Trailside Camp Area is inherently tied to its trailside location. Situated along the Prairie Grass Trail, it likely provides a natural and potentially secluded setting, ideal for those looking to immerse themselves in the outdoors. The focus here seems to be on providing a convenient and comfortable stop for those traversing the trail, as well as appealing to local campers seeking a more nature-centric experience.
Based on customer reviews, the services and features of this camp area are quite notable for a "primitive" site. One reviewer described it as a "super nice site!" and detailed several amenities. These include two elevated pads and three ground pads for pitching tents, catering to different preferences. There is also a designated hammock area, perfect for relaxing after a long day on the trail. Water is available on-site, a crucial amenity for any camper.
Perhaps surprisingly for a primitive camp, it offers a separate warm water source for an outdoor 'shower,' which is described as a sprayer that works. This is a significant comfort for trail users who appreciate the opportunity to freshen up. Furthermore, the camp provides "full toilets," which is a considerable upgrade from typical primitive camping facilities like pit toilets. The availability of these amenities suggests a thoughtful design aimed at enhancing the comfort of trailside camping.
Another significant feature, as mentioned by a reviewer, is its proximity to conveniences. It is located near a Family Dollar store as well as places to eat, which can be incredibly convenient for resupply or a quick meal, especially for those on a longer trail journey or local campers who might need to pick up items.
One enthusiastic reviewer stated, "This place is laid on nice. If every trailhead had one of these (or one every 60 miles or so), I would spend more time on the trail and pack less gear for sustainment." This highlights the value and thoughtful design of the camp area from the perspective of a long-distance trail user, suggesting that it strikes a good balance between primitive camping and essential comforts.
A practical piece of advice from a reviewer is to "please read the rules and check in before you set up." This is important for any campground but is specifically mentioned here in the context of needing the code to access the bathroom at night, emphasizing the importance of following the established procedures.
Regarding the outdoor shower, one user advised to "read the instructions." While they found it easy enough to figure out, they suggested others might not. They also noted an issue with the shower pump handle, which broke while they were using it. Importantly, they clarified that the handle was already bent and had simply given way. Showing appreciation for the camp, they mentioned intending to put $20 in the donation box, indicating a positive overall impression despite the minor equipment malfunction.
The subsequent "I'm sorry about the shower pump. Okay?" from another user likely refers to the reviewer who experienced the breakage, further underscoring the community spirit and the generally positive regard for the camp area.
In summary, the London Primitive Trailside Camp Area offers a unique "camping near me" option that blends the natural experience of trailside camping with some unexpected comforts like elevated and ground pads, a hammock area, water, a warm water outdoor shower, and full toilets. Its proximity to local amenities like a Family Dollar and restaurants adds to its convenience. While it's essential to follow the camp rules, particularly regarding check-in for bathroom access, the overall impression from users is highly positive, with one even wishing for more such facilities along trails.
For local users in London, OH, and surrounding areas who are looking for a trail-oriented camping experience with a step up from purely primitive sites, this camp area seems ideal. Whether you are planning a hike on the Prairie Grass Trail or simply want a unique outdoor camping spot with some thoughtful amenities, the London Primitive Trailside Camp Area is worth considering.

Super nice site! 2 elevated pads, 3 ground pads, a hammock area, water, separate warm water for the outdoor 'shower' (sprayer and it works) and full toilets. It is also near a Family Dollar as well as places to eat.
Jun 13, 2024 · Lewis NordanThis place is laid on nice. It'll save you a lot of heartache at night for when you need the code to the bathroom.About the shower point... Read the instructions. While I figured it out easy enough, you may not. Also, the shower pump handle broke while I was using it. Let me reiterate that I did not break the shower pump. The handle that was already bent had finally given up the ghost. It just happened to be while I was using it. I'll be a sport and throw $20 in the donation box. This is out of respect and appreciation for the place and not out of guilt.I'm sorry about the shower pump. Okay?
Oct 08, 2024 · Matt MarzulaGreat resting spot for bikers. Nice benches plus covered seating area. Good water supply and nice clean bathroom. Very nice tenting area under shade trees. Close to town. Thank you Friends of Madison County trails, we'll done.
Jul 12, 2018 · Russ MusselmanWonderful small campground right on the bike trail. Large shelter, real restrooms, water. Wood platforms for your tent. Call the police dept to let them know you are camping. There is a lot of light at night, but that also makes it feel very safe.
Apr 01, 2019 · Herm GreiderVery conveniently placed along the bike trail . Electricity, water and the restroom make it seem very unprimative to be honest which is not a bad thing at all. The building had alot of solar power and seemed to be self sufficient thus far which I thought was pretty awesome to see. My first stop on a very long journey from ohio to Colorado. I set up just as a thunderstorm rolled in. The stop was quite a blessing. Located within the limits of London ohio which has a sunnco gas station and dinner within a short ten min walk. Wish I had more time to check the area out. Thank you again for the hospitality.
