For inquiries, you can contact them at (385) 273-1100 or +1 385-273-1100.
The environment of Maple Lake Campground is frequently described as absolutely gorgeous and peaceful. Situated at a higher elevation, the campground offers lovely, tree-lined campsites within a foresty setting. The presence of Maple Lake itself is a significant environmental feature, providing a beautiful focal point and likely contributing to the overall tranquility of the area. Visitors have reported encountering acclimated wildlife, including deer and turkeys, adding to the natural charm of the location. The lake is visible through the trees upon arrival, creating an immediate sense of discovery and visual appeal. The overall atmosphere is one of quiet serenity, making it an ideal escape from more crowded camping destinations.
Based on the limited user reviews, specific services and amenities at Maple Lake Campground are not extensively detailed. However, one reviewer explicitly mentioned a "super clean bathroom" which was identified as a camp toilet (vault toilet) without a sink or shower. This suggests that while basic sanitation facilities are available and well-maintained, more comprehensive amenities like showers and sinks may not be present within the campground itself. Individual campsites typically include a designated area for tents, and it's reasonable to assume the presence of fire pits or campfire rings for safe campfires and cooking, although this is not explicitly stated in the provided reviews. Given the remote and potentially less busy nature of the campground, it's advisable to be prepared with your own water supply and other essential camping gear.
A notable feature of Maple Lake Campground, as highlighted by user experiences, is its secluded and peaceful ambiance. The fact that visitors have returned and found it not busy on both a Monday and a Friday night suggests a lower volume of visitors compared to more easily accessible campgrounds. This tranquility is a significant draw for those seeking a quieter camping experience. Another key feature is the campground's proximity to hiking opportunities. While specific trails are not named, the mention of "near hiking" indicates that the surrounding area offers possibilities for exploring on foot and further immersing oneself in the natural beauty of the canyon.
While specific promotional information for Maple Lake Campground is not available in the provided reviews, the overwhelmingly positive descriptions of its beauty and peacefulness serve as a strong implicit recommendation for local users seeking a "camping near me" experience away from the crowds. The sense of discovery associated with finding this "total surprise" and the repeated experiences of it not being busy suggest a hidden gem that offers a unique and tranquil escape. The presence of a clean bathroom facility, even a basic one, adds to the appeal for those who appreciate some level of maintained sanitation. The proximity to hiking further enhances its attractiveness for outdoor enthusiasts.
However, a crucial aspect of Maple Lake Campground that potential visitors must be aware of is the nature of the access road. Reviews consistently describe it as super steep, mainly one lane, and while paved, featuring sharp turns and ledges. This challenging road is likely a significant factor contributing to the campground's less busy nature. While one reviewer felt lucky to navigate it when it wasn't crowded, they expressed concern about the difficulty of driving up or down with a lot of other vehicles. Local users with larger vehicles or those less comfortable with steep and winding mountain roads should exercise caution and consider this aspect carefully before planning a trip to Maple Lake Campground. It might be prudent to inquire about road conditions when contacting the campground.
For local users specifically searching for "camping near me" that offers a more secluded and naturally beautiful experience, Maple Lake Campground is a compelling option. The reports of gorgeous lake views, a peaceful atmosphere, tree-lined campsites, and nearby hiking suggest a rewarding destination for those willing to navigate the challenging access road. The cleanliness of the bathroom facility, albeit basic, is a positive aspect. The potential for encountering wildlife like deer and turkeys further enhances the natural appeal. The fact that it has been reported as not being busy, even on a Friday night, could be a significant advantage for those seeking tranquility and a less crowded camping environment.
Despite the limited details on specific amenities, the strong endorsements of the environment and the peacefulness of Maple Lake Campground speak volumes. The trade-off appears to be the challenging access road, which likely deters some visitors but contributes to the campground's secluded charm. Local campers who prioritize natural beauty and tranquility and are comfortable with potentially difficult driving conditions may find Maple Lake Campground to be an ideal "camping near me" discovery. It offers a chance to escape the more popular and potentially crowded campgrounds in the region and enjoy a more intimate connection with nature.
In conclusion, Maple Lake Campground offers a surprisingly beautiful and peaceful camping experience near Payson, Utah, making it a noteworthy option for local users seeking a more secluded "camping near me" getaway. Its tree-lined campsites, gorgeous lake views, and proximity to hiking are significant draws. However, potential visitors must be aware of the super steep and winding access road, which is primarily one lane with sharp turns and ledges. The campground provides basic sanitation with a clean vault toilet but lacks a sink or shower. The reports of it not being busy suggest a tranquil atmosphere and a chance to avoid crowds. For those who value natural beauty and serenity and are prepared for the drive, Maple Lake Campground promises a rewarding and memorable camping experience.

Maple Lake Campground Reviews
Maple Lake was a total surprise for us! We just decided to drive up the canyon and turn off a random road. We climbed to the top and saw the lake through the trees. Absolutely gorgeous view and such a peaceful spot! We’ve been back again and both times (Monday night and Friday night) were not busy.I think the reason is the road to drive to the campground is super steep, mainly one lane, and while technically paved, it has sharp turns and ledges. We were lucky to go when it wasn’t busy, I can’t imagine how fun it would be to drive up or down with lots of other cars! 😂
Dec 04, 2024 · Destiny YarbroLovely campground. Tree-lined, foresty, acclimated deer and turkeys. Super clean bathroom (camp toilet, no sink/shower). Near hiking.
Sep 04, 2024 · Heather DoughertyNice secluded lake with less people. Good for fly fishing, swimming if you don't mind a few snakes sharing the water. The lake is rather small, but no boats or Motorcraft allowed, so that is nice for the youngins.
Sep 05, 2020 · Scott NelsonGreat little quiet campground. No trailers allowed. The lake was beautiful and serene. The camp host was kind and helpful. The only negatives were that the bathrooms were very dirty and there was trash here and there.
Jul 11, 2022 · korinne NelsonThis is a good lake and it was beautiful however the drought that we have been in has been really bad for the lake and the water is pretty far down. I spent a few hours here fishing and didn’t get a single bite. Probably my fault as the fisher man but still 😂 it is a good place and you won’t have to worry about a lot of people being there. There are also cows to look out for on the way up.
