Sadly not as great as this amazing park deserves. We stayed the week before Memorial Day. Weather was great and the lake and amenities were as well. The camps sites on the other hand were appalling. Not one site we stayed at was remotely leveled. The first site we were assigned had mid shin high grass that they wouldn’t mow because we were there and the second has such a slope we needed 6 inches under our tires to level one side of our camper. And that’s not to mention that I had to pay ~$50 a night. In my opinion for the cost Devils Lake Camping is not worth it if you can find something else. - Jeremiah Clift

Northern Lights Campground Introduce

For those in the Baraboo, Wisconsin area, or those searching the "camping near me" category with an interest in the renowned natural beauty of the region, Northern Lights Campground, situated at Park Headquarters, S5975 Park Rd, Baraboo, WI 53913, USA, offers camping within close proximity to significant attractions, likely including access to a lake and various amenities associated with a popular park. However, based on recent customer reviews, potential visitors should be aware of certain aspects regarding the campground itself, particularly concerning the campsites and the overall atmosphere, before making a reservation.

When considering "camping near me" options near Baraboo, the allure of the natural environment is often a primary factor. While the reviews do not explicitly detail the specific environment of Northern Lights Campground, one reviewer mentions that "the lake and amenities were as well," suggesting that the campground benefits from its location within a park that offers appealing natural features, likely including a lake for swimming, boating, or fishing, and possibly other recreational facilities. The area around Baraboo is known for its scenic landscapes, including Devil's Lake State Park, which is frequently visited for its stunning bluffs and lake. While Northern Lights Campground is mentioned in the context of this beautiful area, it's important to distinguish the campground experience from the park's inherent natural beauty, as indicated by the initial sentiment, "Sadly not as great as this amazing park deserves."

In terms of services and features, the reviews offer some insights, although not comprehensive. The presence of "amenities" is noted, implying the availability of standard campground facilities such as restrooms, showers, and possibly picnic areas or fire rings at the campsites. However, the quality and upkeep of these amenities are not detailed in the provided feedback. The proximity to a lake suggests potential access to water-related activities, although specifics are not provided. It is reasonable to assume that the campground operates within the broader park system, and thus may adhere to certain regulations and offer services common to such facilities.

The features of the campsites themselves appear to be a significant point of concern for some visitors. Multiple reviews highlight issues with the levelness of the camping spots. One reviewer stated, "Not one site we stayed at was remotely leveled," detailing experiences at two different sites where significant adjustments were needed to level their camper, including using up to six inches under the tires on one side. Another issue mentioned was the maintenance of the sites, with one visitor encountering "mid shin high grass" at their assigned spot that was reportedly not mowed due to their presence. These accounts suggest that the condition and upkeep of the individual campsites may be inconsistent and potentially problematic for campers, particularly those with RVs requiring level surfaces.

Another frequently mentioned characteristic of Northern Lights Campground is its tendency to be crowded. One reviewer commented, "it's always crowded," and noted the close proximity of the campsites, advising potential visitors to "preview your site before you book" due to the variability in quality. This suggests that the density of campsites might lead to a less private and potentially noisy environment, as also indicated by the remark about "lots of kids making lots of noise *at inappropriate times*." For those seeking a more secluded and tranquil "camping near me" experience, the reported crowding and noise levels at Northern Lights Campground might be a deterrent.

The issue of booking in advance is also emphasized, with a recommendation to "book waaaaaaay in advance. like several months." This high demand likely reflects the campground's location within a popular recreational area, but it also underscores the need for careful planning and potentially pre-selecting a specific site if possible, given the reported variability in site quality.

Regarding promotional information, the reviews do not mention any specific discounts or special offers. The primary draw of Northern Lights Campground seems to be its location within a desirable park setting that offers access to a lake and other amenities. However, the negative feedback regarding the campsites and the crowded atmosphere suggests that potential visitors should weigh these factors carefully against the convenience of the location.

One reviewer explicitly compared Northern Lights Campground to camping at Devil's Lake State Park, stating, "In my opinion for the cost Devils Lake Camping is not worth it if you can find something else," referencing a cost of approximately "$50 a night." This suggests that the perceived value for money might be low for some, given the condition of the campsites. While this is one individual's opinion, it highlights a potential concern regarding the cost versus the quality of the camping experience at Northern Lights Campground.

In conclusion, for local users searching for "camping near me" near Baraboo, WI, Northern Lights Campground offers a location within a park that boasts a lake and various amenities. However, potential visitors should be aware of the reported issues with unlevel campsites, inconsistent maintenance (such as long grass), crowding, and potential noise. It is strongly recommended to book well in advance and, if possible, preview the specific campsite before booking to ensure it meets your needs. While the allure of the surrounding park is evident, the camping experience at Northern Lights Campground itself appears to be a point of concern for some, and the perceived value for the cost might be questionable compared to other available options in the region. Consider these factors carefully when planning your "camping near me" getaway.
