Thanks Jacqueline for the excellent service. This is a simple life, small friendly camping with peace and love vibes. River access is not easy even from the beach. This looks like a work in progress project. Had to go early because of health issues and was reimbursed the night, this is rare and sets them apart for overall great service. Upon arrival, you'll see that it's a self-service entrance, it's easy, it's a one road camping, and all sites are easily accessible even if some don't have very leveled grounds. - Diane Guilbeault

Onion River Campground Introduce

For local users in Vermont and surrounding regions seeking a "camping near me" experience that emphasizes a simple, friendly atmosphere, Onion River Campground, located at 61 Onion River Rd, Plainfield, VT 05667, USA, presents a basic option. Situated in Plainfield, Vermont, the campground offers access to the Onion River and is described as a small, one-road camping area with easily accessible sites. For inquiries, you can contact them at (802) 426-3233 or +1 802-426-3233.

The environment of Onion River Campground is characterized by its riverside location, offering potential access to the Onion River. However, one reviewer notes that river access is not easy, even from the designated beach area. The campground is described as a "work in progress project," suggesting that ongoing development or improvements may be taking place. The layout is simple, featuring a single road with campsites accessible from it. The tent camping area is located on a hill and is described as having overgrown grass that is not mowed. In contrast, the RV area is situated down below. While the location offers natural surroundings and river proximity, potential campers should be aware of the reported difficulty in accessing the river and the condition of the tent camping area.

In terms of services and features, Onion River Campground appears to offer a very basic camping experience. The entrance is self-service, indicating a minimal level of staff interaction upon arrival. For tent campers, there are reportedly no designated fire pits or benches; instead, guests set up their tents wherever they find a spot on the hill. The bathhouse is described as "dilapidated" and only partially operational, with just one of the two bathrooms in service, making it unisex. This single facility contains two showers and two toilets. Notably, there are no paper towels or other amenities provided in the bathhouse. A specific inconvenience mentioned is a sink with a handle that requires constant holding to keep the water running, making washing up difficult. For RV campers, the lower area provides sites, but details regarding hookups are not mentioned.

Despite the concerns about the facilities, one positive aspect highlighted in the reviews is the excellent service provided by at least one staff member, Jacqueline. A specific instance of exceptional service was a reimbursement for a night's stay when a guest had to leave early due to health issues, which was noted as rare and a testament to their overall great service. This suggests that while the physical infrastructure may have shortcomings, the customer service can be a significant positive.

Features of Onion River Campground include its small and friendly atmosphere, often described with "peace and love vibes." The self-service entrance and the one-road layout are noted for their simplicity and ease of navigation, with all sites being easily accessible, although some may not be perfectly level. The separation of tent and RV areas is another feature of the campground's layout.

Considering the platform category "camping near me," Onion River Campground offers a budget-friendly and simple option in Plainfield, VT, with access to the Onion River. However, potential local users should be aware of the significant drawbacks highlighted in the reviews. The overgrown tent area, the dilapidated and limited bathhouse facilities with no amenities and inconvenient features, and the reported water that smells like rotten eggs are all critical factors to consider. While the friendly service and the reimbursement incident are positive indicators of staff attitude, they may not outweigh the concerns about the physical condition of the campground.

Currently, there is no promotional information provided for Onion River Campground. Given the issues raised in the recent reviews, it is likely that the campground is focusing on addressing these concerns rather than actively promoting new features or discounts. For local users seeking "camping near me," it would be prudent to weigh the lower cost and friendly service against the reported shortcomings in facilities and environment. It might be advisable to contact the campground directly to inquire about the current status of improvements and the water quality before making a reservation.

In conclusion, Onion River Campground in Plainfield, VT, offers a small, self-service camping experience with a friendly atmosphere and river access. While the service, particularly from staff like Jacqueline, is commended, recent reviews point to significant concerns regarding overgrown tent areas, dilapidated and limited bathhouse facilities with inconvenient features and no amenities, and water that smells like rotten eggs. Local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully consider these factors and potentially contact the campground directly for the most current information before making a decision. The campground appears to be a "work in progress," and potential improvements in the future might alter the current conditions.
