Porcupine Point Introduce
Looking for a lakeside retreat in the "camping near me" category? Consider Porcupine Point, a rental cabin located on the shores of the beautiful Lake Gogebic in Bergland, MI 49910, USA. You can reach the owners at (906) 250-1199 or +1 906-250-1199 to inquire about availability and book your stay at this unique waterfront property.
Porcupine Point offers more than just a place to sleep; it provides a comfortable and well-appointed house for your getaway. Described as clean and well-decorated with an "up-north scheme," the cabin aims to create a cozy and authentic Michigan vacation experience. The presence of three bedrooms and one bathroom makes it suitable for families or small groups seeking a relaxing escape.
One of the standout features of Porcupine Point is its expansive yard, which extends to a significant amount of shoreline on Lake Gogebic. This provides guests with direct access to the lake for various activities. A private dock with a boat cradle is available, making it convenient for those who wish to bring their own boat or rent one to explore the lake. The lake is known for its beauty and offers opportunities for fishing and other water sports.
For those who enjoy outdoor gatherings, Porcupine Point boasts a fire pit with ample seating. The owners thoughtfully provide firewood and even skewers for roasting marshmallows or hot dogs, enhancing the campfire experience. However, as one reviewer wisely advises, it's essential to remember mosquito repellent to fully enjoy evenings spent by the fire.
Pet owners will be pleased to know that Porcupine Point is dog-friendly, allowing you to bring your furry companions along on your vacation. This is a significant advantage for many travelers who prefer not to leave their dogs behind.
The kitchen at Porcupine Point is described as very large and well-supplied with cookware and utensils. This makes it easy for guests to prepare their own meals, offering flexibility and convenience during their stay. The thoughtful provision of kitchen essentials adds to the overall comfort and functionality of the rental.
Guests who have been returning to Porcupine Point for years have noted small improvements made each year, indicating that the owners are attentive to upkeep and strive to enhance the guest experience. This dedication to maintaining and improving the property speaks to their commitment to providing a quality rental.
The views from the yard are consistently described as "breath-taking," allowing guests to fully appreciate the natural beauty of Lake Gogebic. The lake itself is renowned for its scenic surroundings, making Porcupine Point an ideal location to immerse yourself in the area's natural charm.
Families with children will find Porcupine Point appealing, as grandchildren of returning guests particularly enjoy swimming from the dock. The direct lake access provides a safe and fun environment for water activities. The combination of swimming, fishing, and evening campfires creates lasting memories for all ages.
The owners of Porcupine Point live next door, and while the driveway is shared, guests report a high degree of privacy as the owners are respectful of their space and "keep to themselves." However, they are also readily available should any problems arise. One reviewer shared a positive experience where the owner was incredibly helpful in assisting with a boat trailer issue, even lending his own trailer for repairs. This level of support and willingness to go the extra mile is a testament to their hospitality.
Adding a personal touch, the owners have been known to bring over homemade lemon-poppy seed bread shortly after guests arrive, a gesture that is warmly appreciated. This thoughtful welcome sets a positive tone for the stay.
While the majority of the feedback for Porcupine Point is overwhelmingly positive, it's important to consider all available information to make an informed decision. One reviewer expressed significant dissatisfaction with their experience, citing a lack of privacy due to the proximity of the owner's home and issues with promised amenities. They reported very spotty cell coverage and no Wi-Fi within the house, which might be a concern for those needing to stay connected. The most significant issue raised was the unexpected removal of the dock mid-vacation, which severely impacted their ability to fish and enjoy the lake as intended, especially given low water levels that made shore fishing difficult. This negative experience highlights the importance of clear communication and the potential for unforeseen issues.
In conclusion, Porcupine Point offers a lakeside cabin experience on the beautiful Lake Gogebic. It boasts a well-equipped house, a large yard with shoreline access, a private dock, a fire pit, and a dog-friendly policy. The owners are generally praised for their hospitality and the upkeep of the property. However, potential renters should be aware of the shared driveway and proximity to the owner's home, the lack of Wi-Fi and spotty cell service inside the cabin, and the importance of clear communication regarding amenities like the dock. Despite one negative review concerning amenity issues, the consistent positive feedback over several years suggests that Porcupine Point can be a wonderful "camping near me" option for those seeking a comfortable and scenic lakeside getaway in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It's recommended to communicate directly with the owners regarding any specific needs or concerns prior to booking to ensure a satisfactory stay.

Porcupine Point Reviews
We have been renting Porcupine Point twice a year since 2016, and I cannot say enough good things about the place. It is a wonderful place to stay. The house is clean and well decorated, and the yard is expansive with a lot of shoreline, a dock with a boat cradle, and a fire pit with ample seating (wood and skewers provided). And the place is dog friendly. The house is decorated with an up-north scheme, and the kitchen is very large and well supplied with cookware and utensils. And each year we have stayed, we have noticed small improvements, which shows the owners care about upkeep. The views from the yard are breath-taking, and our grandchildren, who come up one of the two weeks we stay, love swimming from the dock. They also love sitting by the fire pit in the evening (but of course, remember mosquito repellent!) We fish in a lot of spots on the lake, but there is good fishing close to the property ( which was how we discovered the place when we were fishing a few hundred feet away). The hosts are wonderful. They live next door, and the driveway is shared, but there is a lot of privacy as they keep to themselves. However, they are available if problems arise. We have had problems it’s our boat trailer in the past, and the owner was very helpful, providing tools and even lending us his trailer to trailer our trailer to be repaired. They have brought over a home baked lemon-poppy seed bread each time shortly after our arrival, but then they stay out of the way. Although they don’t need to, as they are very pleasant people. We have been coming to Lake Gogebic since the late 1990’s and have stayed at the campground and one of the resorts. Porcupine Point has been a real upgrade, and we are very happy to have found it!!
Jun 29, 2022 · Lori RothLake Gogebic is beautiful, and the area is beautiful. The cabin was neat, clean and comfortable. 3 bedrooms, 1 bath. Owner's home is right outside the front door and the houses share a driveway, so there is basically no privacy from them. No wifi, and very spotty cell coverage from within this house. We could not get any data signal unless we walked out onto the driveway. Our biggest issue was that they promised a 50 foot dock that we wanted to fish from and enjoy the lake from, and midway through our vacation, without telling us and while we were away from the house for a few hours, they decided to pull the dock up out of the water so we could no longer use it. Just so you understand, that was a problem since the lake water was so low and fishing from the shore was extremely difficult without losing lures/tackle. We would have appreciated the owners to let us know they were going to do that BEFORE we rented so that we could have gone elsewhere. We will not be renting from these owners ever again.
