Rivernook Campground Introduce
For those actively searching for "Camping Near Me" in the picturesque Kern River Valley of California, Rivernook Campground in Kernville, CA, stands out as a highly popular and well-regarded destination. Located at 14001 Sierra Way, Kernville, CA 93238, this campground is a go-to spot for many seeking a memorable outdoor experience near the Kern River. Prospective campers can easily reach the campground by calling (760) 376-2705 or via mobile at +1 760-376-2705 for inquiries and reservations.
Rivernook Campground boasts a natural and inviting environment, characterized by an abundance of trees that provide shade and a pleasant aesthetic for campsites. This lush tree cover contributes to a traditional camping feel, offering a sense of being immersed in nature. The campground's prime location offers "lots of river access," making it an ideal spot for activities directly on or alongside the Kern River. This includes fishing, swimming, or simply enjoying the tranquil sounds of the flowing water. Visitors frequently praise the "tremendous view" from the campground, suggesting scenic surroundings that enhance the overall outdoor experience.
While the setting is natural, it's also a very popular campground, meaning it can be quite full, especially during peak seasons like holiday weekends. One reviewer noted it can be "too full of humanity for me" during busy times, indicating a lively, communal atmosphere rather than a secluded wilderness experience. This popularity, however, also speaks to its desirability and the amenities it offers.
Rivernook Campground provides a comprehensive range of services and amenities designed to cater to both tent and RV campers, ensuring a comfortable stay. The campground offers various campsite options, accommodating both tents and RVs, which suggests a mix of site types with different hookup availabilities (e.g., water, electric, sewer for RVs) though specific details on these are not provided in the reviews. It is common for such popular campgrounds to offer full hookup sites for RVs and designated tent sites.
Key amenities highlighted by visitors include:
- Restrooms and Showers: The bathrooms are described as "decent," indicating functional and reasonably clean facilities. However, during high-demand periods like Labor Day weekend, a common challenge is that facilities can be overwhelmed, with "2 out of 6 of the women's showers are out of order," leading to "incredibly long" lines. This suggests that while present, their capacity can be tested during peak usage.
- Professional Staff: Visitors commend the "great people that work there" and describe the check-in process as "smooth and professional." This points to a well-managed operation with attentive staff who are committed to ensuring a positive experience for guests.
- Pet-Friendly Policies: Rivernook Campground allows dogs, provided they are leashed and owners "must clean up after them." This pet-friendly approach makes it a welcoming destination for campers traveling with their furry companions, contributing to its family-friendly appeal.
- Rules and Regulations: The campground enforces its rules and limits, with staff actively ensuring adherence. This strictness, while potentially leading to challenges for those trying to "exceed their limits," is in place "for safety reasons and to ensure that everyone has a good experience." This commitment to rules aims to maintain order, safety, and a pleasant environment for all campers.
One of Rivernook's most appealing features is its reputation as a "go to place for camping experience," implying a high rate of returning visitors and a consistent quality of service. Its location near the Kern River is a significant draw, facilitating various water-based recreational activities. The campground's presence within a "wonderful town" (Kernville) further enhances the camping experience by providing access to local shops, restaurants, and other community attractions, allowing campers to easily explore beyond the campground.
The "lots of river access" makes it ideal for anglers, kayakers, rafters, or those simply wishing to relax by the water's edge. The overall atmosphere, despite being busy during peak times, seems to be one of enjoyment and shared outdoor enthusiasm. It caters to a broad range of campers, from those seeking a lively family environment to individuals looking for a scenic base for outdoor adventures.
Rivernook Campground's promotional appeal is heavily based on its established reputation as a reliable and enjoyable camping destination. The strong positive feedback about the staff, the scenic views, and the convenient river access serves as key marketing points. Its ability to accommodate both tents and RVs broadens its appeal to a diverse camping demographic.
For those searching for "Camping Near Me" with a focus on a comprehensive camping experience in a popular and scenic location, Rivernook Campground presents itself as an excellent choice. While awareness of potential crowding and facility lines during peak holidays is advisable, the overall consensus points to a well-maintained campground that delivers on its promise of a great outdoor stay. Its combination of a friendly staff, essential amenities, diverse site options, and direct access to the Kern River ensures a memorable and enjoyable camping adventure in the heart of California's natural beauty.

Rivernook Campground Reviews
My go to place for camping experience. Great people that work there. Tremendous view wonderful town can't be beat.
Mar 02, 2025 · Raymond FerenciCheck-in was smooth and professional. Adhere to their rules and limits here. If you try to exceed their limits, they will catch you. There was one of these checking in in front of me. But they have these rules for safety reasons and to ensure that everyone has a good experience. Dogs are allowed, leashed, and you must clean up after them. If camping in campgrounds is your jam, you'll enjoy this one, but it's too full of humanity for me. The bathrooms are decent, but on a Labor Day weekend, when the campground is full, 2 out of 6 of the women's showers are out of order. The lines for women to shower are incredibly long. Lots of trees here, campsites for tents and RVs and lots of river access.
Sep 01, 2024 · Meryl LeeWent to the Kernville 2024 beer festival. It was a rocky beginning. Unorganized at the entrance with the tickets. Once we were in, it was better. Food lines were long but moved quickly. Restrooms maintained throughout the event. It was our 1st time going, so we were unprepared. Bring folding chairs! The event needed more booths selling items, such as t-shirts, caps, and beer mugs, that represent the event. "THE 2024 KERNVILLE BEER FESTIVAL"
Nov 07, 2024 · T CampbellMy family planned a get together at this campground. I decided to reserve a spot by the river which was great. There is also a little convenient store, extra supplies and firewood goodies and folks we interacted with were all nice and helpful. The place was pretty clean except for the trash cans near our site. They were overflowing with trash which should’ve been emptied more frequent. The showers had hot water and you didn’t have to pay for them. You can raft & fish in the river and we even set up some canopies in the water for shade while we just relaxed. There’s full connections for RVs.Something to note - We knew it would be hot but we thought it would cool down at night…it didn’t so it was hard to sleep.
Jun 27, 2024 · L. R.Whent in 2022. And October 2024 and this might possibly be the last time camping here super crowded noisy problems with dogs from the campsite next door. The people camping right behind us decided to start fighting at 1:00 in the morning the sheriff showed up and everything. Seems like Rivernook is going downhill fast.
