Based on online reviews, Rocky Knoll Campground is situated in a "beautiful area" and provides a tranquil camping experience. While the specific address is given as Susanville, CA 96130, further details about its precise location relative to the town might be beneficial for planning a visit.
One reviewer notes that the campground has approximately 20 campsites, which suggests a relatively small and intimate camping environment. This can be appealing to those seeking a quieter and less crowded experience compared to larger campgrounds. The reviewer also points out that the campsites are "not too close together," indicating a sense of privacy and space between individual camping areas, enhancing the feeling of being immersed in nature without being on top of neighboring campers.
Each campsite at Rocky Knoll Campground is equipped with essential amenities, including tables and fire pits. Tables provide a convenient surface for cooking, eating, and other camping activities, while fire pits offer a traditional camping experience for campfires, warmth, and cooking over an open flame. These basic provisions contribute to a comfortable and enjoyable stay for campers.
Another reviewer describes Rocky Knoll Campground as a "hidden gem," emphasizing its secluded and peaceful atmosphere. They also mention its proximity to the neighboring Silver Bowl Campground, noting that both offer terrific escapes from civilization, with Rocky Knoll being the quieter of the two. This distinction suggests that Rocky Knoll is particularly suited for those seeking a more serene and undisturbed camping experience within the "camping near me" category.
This reviewer stayed at site #12, which was located beside a "quiet pond," further highlighting the tranquil environment of the campground. The only sounds were reportedly a "running stream and occasional breeze in the trees," painting a picture of a peaceful natural setting perfect for relaxation and unwinding. The presence of a pond and a stream adds to the scenic beauty and auditory ambiance of the campground, providing opportunities for wildlife viewing and enjoying the sounds of nature.
A significant feature mentioned is the close proximity of Silver Lake, described as being "a few steps away." This provides campers at Rocky Knoll with easy access to both swimming and kayaking opportunities. Lakeside recreation can greatly enhance a camping trip, offering ways to cool off during warmer months and enjoy water-based activities. The shared access to Silver Lake between Rocky Knoll and Silver Bowl campgrounds expands the recreational possibilities for visitors to Rocky Knoll.
Regarding facilities, the reviewer noted the presence of "pit/vault toilets" which were described as "spartan but clean." While not modern restrooms, clean and functional toilet facilities are essential for any campground. The mention of daily trash removal indicates that the campground is maintained and that efforts are made to keep the area clean and sanitary, contributing to a more pleasant camping experience.
The reviewer also mentioned that they "never met host," but it was clear that "they take great care of the site." This suggests that while the host might not be constantly visible, the campground is well-managed and maintained, ensuring a positive experience for visitors. This can be reassuring for local users looking for "camping near me" where the facilities are cared for even without constant host interaction.
Based on these reviews, the environment of Rocky Knoll Campground is characterized by its natural beauty, with a pond, nearby stream, and close proximity to Silver Lake. Information about specific services beyond the basic amenities (tables, fire pits, pit toilets, trash removal) is limited in the reviews. It would be beneficial to know if the campground offers potable water sources, designated parking areas, or any specific rules or regulations for campers. Given its designation as a campground in a natural area, it's likely that it focuses on providing a more rustic and nature-oriented experience rather than extensive modern amenities.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, the glowing descriptions of the beautiful area, spacious campsites, tranquil environment, and access to Silver Lake serve as strong implicit endorsements. For local users searching for "camping near me," the key promotional aspects derived from the reviews are the campground's natural beauty, quiet and secluded atmosphere, proximity to water for recreation, and the sense of care taken in maintaining the site.
To obtain more specific information about Rocky Knoll Campground, such as reservation procedures, fees, availability, and any specific regulations or recommendations for campers, local users should seek out official websites or contact information for the campground, possibly through Lassen National Forest or local camping resources, given its location in California. Inquiring about the availability of water, parking guidelines, and any restrictions on activities like campfires or pets would also be helpful in planning a trip.
In conclusion, Rocky Knoll Campground near Susanville, CA, appears to be a "hidden gem" offering a beautiful and tranquil camping experience for local users searching for "camping near me." Its spacious campsites, proximity to a quiet pond and Silver Lake, and the sounds of nature create a serene environment for a peaceful escape. Rocky Knoll Campground Reviews
It's such a beautiful area. There are about 20 camp sites. Not too close together. There are tables and fire pits at each site.
Jun 13, 2024 · S OHidden gem. Both Rocky Knoll and neighboring Silver Bowl are terrific escapes from civilization, with Rocky Knoll the quieter of the two. We took site #12 beside a quiet pond, with only the sounds of a running stream and occasional breeze in the trees. Silver Lake is a few steps away, with both swimming and kayaking. Pit/vault toilets were spartan but clean, and trash was removed daily. We never met host, but clearly they take great care of the site.
