Sand Creek Campground Introduce
If you're searching online under the category "camping near me" and considering Sand Creek Campground located at 1000-1048 N 350 E in Chesterton, Indiana, it's important to have a comprehensive understanding of what recent visitors have experienced. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the campground based on available customer reviews, highlighting both potential positives and reported concerns to help local users make informed decisions.
One review mentions that the campground itself "looks maintained well" and notes the presence of amenities such as a basketball court and "a few other small activities." The reviewer also points out that there is "lots of room to walk/run the driveway," suggesting that the physical layout of the campground offers space for leisurely strolls. This observation indicates that the grounds may have the potential for recreational activities and a sense of openness.
However, other aspects of the reviews raise significant concerns regarding the services and overall experience at Sand Creek Campground. One traveler, who stayed for a single night in October while passing through, described the location as "not in the best location for traveling through." While this might not be a primary concern for local users specifically seeking camping in the Chesterton area, it's a point to consider regarding accessibility and potential noise from nearby routes.
More critically, this same reviewer expressed strong dissatisfaction with the cleanliness and functionality of the facilities. They described the showers as "very sketchy with all the rust covering the walls" and explicitly stated that the photos provided in another review accurately depicted this condition. This suggests a potential issue with the upkeep and hygiene of the shower facilities. Furthermore, the reviewer noted that the bathroom near their site was out of toilet paper, requiring them to use their own supply. This points to potential inconsistencies in the provision of basic necessities.
The review also highlights "serious drain issues" at the campground. The following morning, the reviewer encountered a flooded area in front of another bathroom building, further emphasizing problems with the drainage system. These issues with the restrooms and drainage are significant concerns for any camper prioritizing cleanliness and convenience.
Another concerning aspect raised in one of the reviews pertains to the management and customer service under new ownership. This reviewer, who claims to have stayed at the campground prior to the change in ownership and had a more positive experience then, reported a highly negative stay. They cited issues with communication, alleging that the management repeatedly forgot conversations. The situation escalated to the point where they were mistakenly accused of being "squatters" and given an eviction notice, requiring intervention to resolve. The reviewer further stated that "there seemed to be issues every day!" and described the overall service as the "worst service from a campground I have EVER experienced." They strongly advise against staying at Sand Creek Campground, labeling the service as "terrible" and mentioning that refunds are not provided for early departures.
While one reviewer mentioned that "the staff was friendly," they also noted an unsolicited sharing of "religious information." While friendliness is generally appreciated, the unsolicited nature of religious information might be unwelcome or uncomfortable for some guests.
Considering the feedback available, Sand Creek Campground appears to have some potential in terms of its physical layout and recreational amenities like a basketball court. However, significant concerns have been raised regarding the cleanliness and functionality of the bathroom and shower facilities, with reports of rust, lack of supplies, and drainage problems. Furthermore, there are serious allegations of poor customer service and mismanagement under new ownership, including issues with communication, accusations of squatting, and a generally negative experience reported by one long-term visitor.
For local users searching for "camping near me," it is crucial to weigh these reported issues carefully. While the campground might be conveniently located in Chesterton, Indiana, the negative feedback regarding the facilities and customer service should not be overlooked. It would be prudent to consider these recent experiences when making a decision about where to camp in the area.
No specific promotional information was provided in the reviews. Therefore, potential local users would need to contact Sand Creek Campground directly at (219) 926-7482 or +1 219-926-7482 to inquire about current rates, availability, and any ongoing promotions. The address is 1000-1048 N 350 E, Chesterton, IN 46304, USA.
In conclusion, based on recent customer feedback, Sand Creek Campground presents a mixed picture. While the grounds may appear maintained and offer some recreational space, significant concerns have been raised about the condition of the facilities and the quality of customer service under new management. Local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully consider these points before making a reservation and may want to seek further information or alternative options in the Chesterton area.

Sand Creek Campground Reviews
We stayed here one night in October in a travel trailer while traveling coast to coast. This campground is not in the best location for traveling through but we were tired and wanted to stop for the night. The showers were very sketchy with all the rust covering the walls. The photos provided with another review are accurate We used water in the trailer since it is filtered. The photos with the reviews are accurate. The bathroom near us was out of toilet paper so I carried some extra that I keep when traveling. They have serious drain issues that need to be taken care of. I tried a different building with a bathroom the next morning and the entire area in front of the building was flooded. The staff was friendly although I was given some religious information that I didn't ask for. I was really glad that we were only staying for the night. I personally would not stay here again.
Nov 10, 2024 · Terry GriffisThe campground itself looks maintained well, they have a basket ball court and a few other small activities and lots of room to walk/run the driveway. I see lots of potential here I wish I would have stayed prior to the new ownership. I did not enjoy my stay at all under the new owners, I am working in the area and so my time aswell as phone access is verry limited and I notified them that, they were willing to work around it but then he kept forgetting our conversations ever happened, they thought we were squatters when we first arrived and they gave us an eviction notice and threatening cops. We got that under control and there seemed to be issues every day ! They don’t know what they are doing at all ! I do not recommend staying here what so ever!! Worst service from a campground I have EVER experienced in my travels! They are expensive and they don’t give money back if you leave early. Just terrible service! I do not recommend!
Dec 02, 2024 · Hope SheaCampground is in a weird spot kinda hard to find. The sites aren’t too close together and there’s a good amount of trees which is nice. The water and electric worked just fine on our site but some sites were down. There was no soap in the bathrooms and they weren’t the best but also not the worst I’ve seen. The firewood we bought was wet so it was very difficult to start a fire. The fire pit was also very small. It’s a fine place to stay the night in between places, but I wouldn’t pay as much as I did for the site. It’s $30-something for a primitive tent site and $45 for an RV full hookup site. The payment is on an honestly policy which was convenient for us because we were poorly prepared and didn’t have cash. I might come back if I need a place to stay like this time, but I won’t come back for fun
Oct 22, 2024 · Sarah PianeLooking to head to lake MichiganBut all the Indiana dunes camp grounds are booked up 8 months in advance? Then this is the spot for you.Not to far away for all that stuff! And not always packed! The owners live right on the property so if you need anything they are there to help.Only negative I could find is the water is has a serious rust issue. It has all the showers all rusty and it smells terrible. I didn't even put my head under the water & I chose not to shower the rest of the time I was there. And the women I was with said there hair smelt like it.Probably well water or something.I hope they can get that fixed somehow with some sort of filter or something. I love the place and I will continue to come back no matter what.
Jan 24, 2025 · Evan LeclereMy friends and I stayed in the yurt and it was absolutely beautiful! Clean place and well maintained. Free-roaming chickens that were an absolute blast to play with, just the loveliest gals 🤣🥰. Great hospitality, rates, and just 20 mins from the Indiana Dunes (State/National) Parks! I ABSOLUTELY recommend staying here!
