Scottyland Introduce
When searching for "camping near me," it's crucial to gather a comprehensive understanding of potential destinations to ensure a satisfying experience. Scottyland, located at 1618 Barron Church Rd, Rockwood, PA 15557, USA, presents a mixed picture based on the available user reviews. While one review praises its natural setting and peaceful atmosphere, another raises serious concerns regarding safety, management, and the quality of amenities. This detailed introduction aims to provide an objective overview of Scottyland based on this contrasting feedback to help local users make an informed decision.
The Natural Environment: A Potential Escape
One reviewer describes Scottyland as a "nice place off the grid," emphasizing its potential for connecting with nature in a "calm peaceful place." The mention of a 5-hour drive from NYC suggests a location that might offer a significant departure from urban environments, potentially nestled in a more rural and less developed area of Pennsylvania. This could translate to a setting surrounded by woodlands, offering opportunities for enjoying the tranquility of nature, observing local wildlife, and experiencing a sense of being away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The reviewer also notes that cellular service is spotty, except for Verizon users, further reinforcing the "off the grid" feel and the potential for a digital detox. For those seeking a break from technology and an immersive natural experience, Scottyland's environment, as described by this reviewer, could be appealing.
Services and Amenities: Conflicting Perspectives
The two reviews offer drastically different perspectives on the services and amenities at Scottyland. The positive review mentions "nice campgrounds" without elaborating on specific facilities. In contrast, the negative review paints a concerning picture, stating that "bathrooms are nasty, showers are nasty" and that the "water is undrinkable and will make you sick." These are serious allegations that potential campers must consider. Clean and safe water and sanitation facilities are fundamental aspects of a comfortable and healthy camping experience. If the negative review accurately reflects the current state of these amenities, it would be a significant drawback for most campers.
The negative review also mentions concerns about payment, stating, "Make sure you keep all payment info as they will say you didn’t pay such and such bill." This suggests potential issues with the campground's billing and record-keeping processes, which could lead to unnecessary stress and disputes for campers. Furthermore, the accusation that "They come up with rules on the fly if they don’t like you" raises serious questions about the fairness and consistency of the campground's management and policies.
Features and Atmosphere: A Party Spot with Safety Concerns?
The contrasting reviews also highlight a significant difference in the perceived atmosphere of Scottyland. The positive review describes it as a "place to connect with nature and calm peaceful place." However, the negative review portrays a very different environment, labeling it "basically one big party spot" where "underage kids drinking and driving all night long" with the alleged inaction of the park management. These are severe safety concerns that cannot be ignored. A campground where such activities are reportedly tolerated would not be a safe or peaceful environment for families, individuals seeking relaxation, or anyone prioritizing safety and adherence to the law.
The fact that one reviewer found it to be a place for "friendly" people while the other experienced issues with management ("park won’t do anything," "rules on the fly if they don’t like you") further underscores the inconsistency and potential problems at Scottyland. The spotty cellular service (except for Verizon) could be seen as a feature for those wanting to disconnect, but it could also be a safety concern in case of emergencies, especially if the campground management is perceived as unresponsive to serious issues.
Promotional Information
The provided information does not include any specific promotional offers for Scottyland. It is advisable to contact Scottyland directly using the provided phone numbers ((814) 926-3200 or +1 814-926-3200) or explore any online presence they might have (website, social media) to inquire about current rates, availability, and any special deals or packages they might be offering. Given the significant concerns raised in one of the reviews, it would be particularly prudent to ask detailed questions about the condition of the facilities, safety protocols, and management practices before making a reservation.
A Balanced Perspective for Local Campers Seeking "Camping Near Me"
Scottyland presents a stark contrast in user experiences. On one hand, it offers a potentially "off the grid" natural environment that some may find peaceful and conducive to relaxation. The friendly people mentioned in one review could also contribute to a positive social atmosphere for some campers. However, the serious allegations in the other review regarding underage drinking and driving, unhygienic facilities, potentially contaminated water, and questionable management practices cannot be dismissed. These concerns raise significant red flags about the safety and overall quality of the camping experience at Scottyland.
For local users searching for "camping near me," it is strongly recommended to exercise extreme caution and conduct further thorough research before considering Scottyland. This should include:
- Contacting Scottyland directly to inquire about the current state of their facilities, safety measures, and management policies. Be specific about the concerns raised in the negative review.
- Seeking additional reviews from other sources online to see if there is a consistent pattern in the feedback.
- Considering alternative campgrounds in the Rockwood, PA area that may have more consistently positive reviews regarding safety, cleanliness, and management.
The decision of where to camp is a personal one, but it should be based on accurate and comprehensive information, especially when safety and basic amenities are in question. While Scottyland may offer a seemingly appealing natural setting, the serious concerns raised by at least one recent visitor warrant significant caution and further investigation before choosing it as your next "camping near me" destination.

Apr 05, 2024 · Cheyanne MillerAbsolutely love this campground. Campers are all so friendly and family oriented but there is also fun for adults at the main pavilion that has a D.J. Beautiful lake full of fish & Lots of ducks ! Main office has supplies, souvenirs & ice cream ! They have an events calendar. Large kids playground & more. A fun covered bridge to drive through on your golf carts. The atmosphere is amazing ! Highly worth it !!!
Aug 07, 2023 · Belinda B. (FerretGal)Can't get a reservation. The site clearly states 2 people per site (which is funny because there are no designated sites). When I called the secretary had absolutely no knowledge on the campground or prices. Any question at all was directed to the owner.I was told the reservation was then "per tent" and that we would have to pay again to set up a second tent. It's incredible that they expect two grown men to sleep in the same tent. After about 3 questions the owner the became openly agitated and I cut the conversation short. It isn't my fault as a customer that your site does not state your terms correctly. Itis not my fault that your secretary has their head on sideways and at 70 bucks a night I think I'll just go elsewhere.
