One review expresses gratitude to the Girl Scouts for allowing the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to use this "beautiful, historic camp" for their 2023 winter camp. This single comment provides several key pieces of information. Firstly, it indicates that Scoutshire Woods is associated with the Girl Scouts, suggesting it may have been primarily established and maintained for their activities. Secondly, the description of it as a "beautiful" camp implies a pleasant natural environment, which would be a significant draw for anyone searching for "camping near me." Thirdly, the mention of it being "historic" adds an element of unique character to the location, potentially making it more appealing to those interested in sites with a past.
Furthermore, the fact that the BSA utilized the camp for a winter camp in 2023 suggests that the facilities and environment are suitable for organized group camping, even in potentially cooler weather conditions. This could indicate the presence of group camping areas, possibly with shared amenities or structures that can accommodate larger numbers of people. For local groups such as scout troops, schools, or other organizations looking for a nearby outdoor retreat, Scoutshire Woods could be a viable option.
Another brief review mentions that O'Rourke Elementary School had field trips there around 2007 and recalls it as "pretty fun" and a "good memory." This further supports the idea that Scoutshire Woods has historically been used for youth-oriented outdoor activities. Field trips often involve exploring nature, engaging in outdoor games, and learning in a different environment. The positive recollection suggests that the camp offered a positive and engaging experience for these school outings, hinting at a child-friendly and potentially educational environment.
Considering the limited information available, Scoutshire Woods appears to be a campground with a history tied to youth organizations, possessing a "beautiful" natural environment suitable for group camping and outdoor activities. Its past use for both Girl Scout and Boy Scout events, as well as school field trips, indicates its potential to cater to various groups looking for "camping near me" or an outdoor event venue in the Citronelle area.
For local users searching for "camping near me" that can accommodate groups, Scoutshire Woods seems like a promising option. The historic aspect might add a unique dimension to any visit. While specific details about amenities and services are not provided in these reviews, the fact that it has hosted winter camps and school field trips suggests the presence of some level of infrastructure to support these activities. Potential visitors may want to contact the provided phone numbers to inquire about the types of camping available (e.g., tent camping, RV camping), the facilities offered (e.g., restrooms, water sources, activity areas), and the capacity for group bookings.
If you are a local leader of a youth group, a teacher looking for a field trip location, or someone organizing a group camping trip in the Citronelle area, Scoutshire Woods could be worth exploring. The positive sentiments in the reviews, though limited, point towards a well-regarded outdoor space. The "historic" nature of the camp might also offer opportunities for learning about the local history or the history of the scouting movements in the region.
To get a clearer picture of what Scoutshire Woods offers for "camping near me," it would be beneficial to call them directly. You could ask about the availability for different types of groups, the amenities on-site, the nature of the environment (e.g., wooded areas, open fields), and any specific features that make it suitable for camping or outdoor events. Given its history with youth organizations, it might have facilities geared towards activities like campfires, outdoor games, and potentially even some basic structures for shelter or activities.
In summary, based on the available information, Scoutshire Woods in Citronelle, AL, appears to be a historically significant and beautiful campground that has served youth organizations for outdoor activities, including camping. It seems well-suited for group outings and offers a natural environment that has been positively recalled by past users. Kids can't put a tent next to parents RV, they would have to be across the lake where anyone can come in!! Will not go back unless they change their rules and clean up the lake!! Plus the trash!!
